"You resent me because I was born when you are done with motherhood and wanted to focus on yourself, that’s why you chose to hate me. You thought I was the cause of your suffering." Abby had thought about it for a while. "But, Elder Rose, do you know what? You are not the only one, who is able to resent someone."

Elder Rose was surprised to see Abby stood up for herself when she used to be very quiet and was not a confrontational person. She thought, she knew her well, but as it turned out, that shy girl had long gone...

"Growing up with your hatred made me hated you too." Abby stood up and looked down at elder Rose. "I choose to give birth to this baby and I choose to love my child no matter what. I may not be a good mother, but one thing I know is; I don’t want in the future, my child will think of me the way I think of you."

"How dare you talking to me like that?" Elder Rose stood up as well. She looked intimidating and usually Abby would lower her head to avoid her sharp gaze, but no this time. She held her gaze. "I am your mother! How dare you to talk to me like that?!"

"My mother?" Abby didn’t hide her disdain toward Elder Rose. "Don’t flutter yourself by saying that. Don’t claim something that you are not. You are not my mother, you are Elder Rose and you make sure I always remember that."

Abby walked toward the curtain that served as the door to the tent, she held it, as a gesture for Elder Rose to leave her tent.

"In the past I always wondered why you hated me so much." Abby watched Elder Rose approached her. "Was it because I was not good? was it because I was not up to your expectation? Even now I can’t understand why. Now I will be a mother, I can’t imagine myself to hate my own child. That’s so cruel. The way you have been treating me all this time was very cruel. I don’t deserve that."

"No, you don’t." To Abby’s surprise, Elder Rose agreed with her. "You don’t deserve the hatred. But, one thing that you failed to know. Hatred is not a singular emotion, it can be an extension of something else."

And with that was being said, Elder Rose walked out of the tent, leaving Abby with the turmoil in her heart.

What Elder Rose said was right. Hatred was not a singular emotion. You could hate something or someone because of an indirect cause. Hatred was not something solid, it could vanish and change its shape and course. Or even extended...

Jealousy and resentment were part of hatred too and Iris was a perfect example of an extended hatred. How people in the Howling Wolf pack misdirected their hatred toward her.

But right now, after a ton of turmoil that she had to go through, she found a way to make peace with it and when she gave up on them to see her as part of them, she finally gained their respect with her own strength and the way she treated them.

Because in the end of the day, Iris gave them no reason to hate her. And currently, she was making yet another miracle to happen.

"No way..." Cane breathed out, he straightened his back and all tiredness and exhaustion disappeared from his black eyes, as he stared at her intently. "This is not possible."

But then, as the same time he said that, something clicked in his head and everything made sense now. She did that on purpose, every time they started it, she always touched him boldly.

Cane didn’t think much about that, he only thought she had another penchant for trying something new and wanting to explore more.

"Cane..." Iris smiled at him, she could see from the corner of her eyes one of the lights was more active than the other. They were the size of peas now.

"You have been doing something to me," Cane asked impassively, his grip on her shoulders tightened, as he waited for her to explain herself.

"I didn’t think I will be able to do it," Iris said sheepishly when she explained why she didn’t tell him in the first place. She didn’t want him to be disappointed if she failed, more so, she was not confidence that she could heal him.

Even if she did manage to heal him, she didn’t think it would happen so soon. At the very least, it would take months, if it was not years.

Therefore, this came as a surprise for Iris too when her trial obviously succeeded. She wanted to tell Cane about it once she was already sure with these two lights that stayed with her the whole time, but Cane had been gone for a while and Lu was very clueless about this thing, after all she was still in early stage of pregnancy and the lycan didn’t have any idea about the whole pregnancy thing.

More so, Iris assumed her scent changed as the baby grew in her stomach, she could see the shape of her little lights changed.

"Cane, I think we will have another twin! This time I am sure they are shifters!" Iris had tears in her eyes when she announced this.

She expected Cane to kiss her or even hug her, though he wouldn’t literally jump in happiness or even screamed to let other people knew that he would be a father again, but Iris didn’t expect this reaction from Cane.

He froze in place. His eyes were on her, but her mind was definitely miles away. He even let her go, which made Iris alerted.

"Cane?" The smile on her face fell when Cane moved away from her. "Cane, where are you going?" And the alpha got out of the carriage, leaving her alone there.

Iris was confused with Cane’s reaction, she didn’t expect this at all. What happened? Wasn’t he happy? Why he just walked away like that?

Iris felt her chest tightened and she subconsciously touched her stomach, while staring at her lights. "It’s okay, your father must be very happy, he only needs some time to calm down and process everything. It’s fine babies..."

The lights twirled around her finger when she raised her hand to touch them.

Thankfully, Cane returned not long after, but he came with Grace. His expression was still devoid from any emotions, but his eyes were slightly darker than usual, he became even more taciturn now.

"What happened, luna? Are you hurt?" Grace immediately approached Iris because the alpha had come to find her with such foul mood, she thought something so bad might happen on Iris. She even didn’t have time to recover from the surprise that the alpha finally returned after such a long time. "Are you in pain somewhere?"

The carriage was spacious enough to accommodate five people, thus three people inside still left so much room for them to move.

"Check on her," Cane said, no, he was actually growling at the healer, which made Grace gulped down nervously.

What actually happened here? Grace was sure the last time she saw Iris, the luna was perfectly fine, but needless to say, she did what the alpha told her to do and immediately run a thorough check on Iris.

At first, Iris was sad because Cane reacted coldly, but now when she saw he returned with Grace, her heart became so warm.

See? Your father was only worried about you...

Iris cooperated and let Grace did her job. She watched the healer expression when the realization finally hit her. She was in disbelieve, just like Cane earlier.

"No way..." Grace gulped down, her hands were trembling and she checked on Iris more thoroughly now. It was unknown how many times Grace repeated the process just to be sure. "Luna... heaven! Is this really possible?"

"What is it?" Cane didn’t need the answer, he already knew what it would be from the look on Grace’s face, but he needed the confirmation to make things more real.

"Alpha..." Grace turned her head and looked at Cane with tears in her eyes. "Congratulation! The luna is pregnant!" she was thrilled to announce this. She didn’t think she would have this moment ever again after Iris’s last pregnancy, because it was already very difficult for them to conceive.

Even more without the potion because they couldn’t afford to find water magic stone.

"Alpha, congratulation! You will be a father!" Grace said heartily, she felt like she was going to cry, so did Iris.

She looked at her mate, but her heart lurched when Cane’s expression didn’t change at all. Was he still in shock? Was he still in denial?

"Understood." Cane nodded after some time. "You can leave now. Don’t tell anyone about this."

"Yes, alpha!" Grace didn’t think much about Cane’s request, after all this news was very confidential and it was the alpha and the luna prerogative to tell people, who they deemed trustworthy.

After what they had gone through with Chrystal and Rora, of course, they would be extremely careful with this one.

After all, this was a miracle that no one thought would happen in this chaotic situation.

That was what Iris thought too.

However, once Grace was out of the carriage and it was only the two of them, Iris felt like thunder struck her when Cane spoke.

"We can’t afford to have the baby."

"What do you mean?"
