The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 869: THE CHANGE IN HER SCENT

Chapter 869: THE CHANGE IN HER SCENT

Iris startled when Cane kissed the tip of her nose, her sleepiness faded away the moment she realized the man, who was with her right now was Cane. He was here with her now and Iris felt like she was going to cry.

Iris hugged him tighter and buried her face against his chest. "Why it took you so long?" This was the longest Cane let Lu resurfaced and it was rather hard to see the person that you loved, but it was actually not him.

Even though Lu had said that Cane would eventually comeback, but every time she opened her eyes and it was not this pair eyes, who stared back at her, there was this sadness and restlessness that Iris felt. She was afraid Cane would never comeback to her. It was silly, but that was the truth.

"I am sorry," Cane said, he squeezed her body. From the sound of it, the alpha was clearly still exhausted and it must be hard for him to get back his consciousness from the lycan. "It must be hard on you to deal with everything alone."

Iris kissed his chest, she felt a heavy weight was just lifted off her shoulders. "It’s so hard when I want to kiss you, but I have to hold myself back because it felt so wrong."

Cane chuckled when he heard that. It sounded very cheesy and Iris actually laughed after what she said. Her mood improved significantly.

"Will you tell me what happened?" Cane knew the gist of the situation when Lu took over his body, but he missed a few important things, which he was not aware of.

"You need to rest, you still look tired."

"I am fine, I can handle this." Cane liked it when they talked about important and difficult thing, while holding each other, as if they would always have each other no matter how hard the situation could be.

There was no way out if Cane already insisted on something and Iris knew this matter was already very pressing to be discussed.

Thus, Iris spent an hour later to explain their current situation, including what Lu had done, which caused them to be here. They lycan literally moved all the forces to the enemy’s gate without any plan, aside from taking them down by fighting them off.

That was very typical of Lu.

"Do you think I have done the right thing?" Iris asked his opinion, because she was worried, she ruined his plane and read his intention wrongly. She wanted to help, not to add more problem into his plate.

"You have done an excellent job, love..." Cane said softly with his eyes closed, it seemed he was still half unconscious and was very generous with his endearment.

Hearing that, Iris was very happy. Ethan and Aliana also the other people had said that what she had done was wonderful, it was beyond their expectation, but it was different when the word came from Cane’s mouth.

"What are you going to do now?" Iris lifted her to stare at the window from the carriage, the sky had turned dark and the shield around Winter Moon pack had not yet lifted. She still could feel the dark magic that surrounded it.

"I am going to sleep," Cane replied.

"Oh..."

It didn’t take long before Iris could hear Cane’s soft snore near her ear, it was ticklish, thus she slightly moved her body, but he tightened his arms around her waist unconsciously, as if he was not willing for her to be away from him.

The alpha could be very clingy sometime.

Meanwhile, as Cane was sleeping, Iris stared at her two tiny lights. She was mesmerized by how her lights had started to have a shape. They were no longer looked like two dots...

She felt like she could stare at them for day and night without being tired.

It was only later in the morning when they heard a knock from outside of the carriage, Cane and Iris woke up. The two of them slept very peacefully, they even skipped their dinner.

"Luna Iris," Aliana called her from outside of the carriage. "Please, come out for a while, there is something I want to discuss with you."

Since all of them knew it was the lycan that had been occupying Cane’s body, thus they didn’t even bother to ask for him. Everything had been handled and reported to Iris all this time.

"I will go out," Cane said when Iris was about to get off the makeshift bed. "Stay here, I will get you something to eat."

Cane then took a cloak and combed his hair recklessly with his fingers before he got off the carriage to meet with Aliana.

"Ah, can I see luna Iris?" Aliana asked, she still did not notice it yet.

"It’s okay, Aliana, you can talk to me." Cane still looked sleepy and tired, coupled with how messy he was after sleeping so long, it didn’t look like him at all, especially when he became more approachable.

"Yes?" Aliana frowned, she tilted her head and then saw Cane’s black eyes. The alpha leaned his back against the carriage with his arms crossed in front of his chest. "Al- alpha? Is that you?"

They had built a campsite, but Lu insisted he wanted to sleep inside the carriage, because the makeshift bed was smaller and he got to hold Iris more comfortable.

"What do you want to report?"

This was Cane’s straightforwardness that Aliana was very familiar with. She couldn’t help, but felt the excitement and relief at the same time to finally have the alpha back.

"The report?" Cane repeated his question again when Aliana didn’t immediately talk.

"Oh, right!" Aliana was too happy to get the alpha here. "Sir Lou reported that he spotted three ships at the Chrystal Moon pack, they are not the merchant ships and after some investigation, he was certain the ships came from Holy Kingdom. He asked whether the elders said anything about another reinforcement from Andelus Continent."

Lou asked Aliana to relay this message to Iris because he didn’t want to meet with Lu again. Going out with the lycan once was more than enough of a lifetime experience. He didn’t want to be near the lycan until Cane returned.

The time when he woke up and saw Lu inside the carriage still gave him goosebump.

"Ships from Andelus Continent?" Cane frowned. He thought about it for a while and then asked different topic. "What about the shield around the Winter Moon pack?"

Aliana lowered her voice when she told him about this. "It seems the elders have been very frustrated because no matter what they did, the shield didn’t even crack. The three elders even tried it themselves, but there was no change at all, currently elder Rose is talking with Serafim Abby."

Cane asked a few more thing to Aliana before he asked her to bring Ethan, Jace and Redmond to him, also breakfast for his mate.

"Yes, alpha." Aliana then left and Cane entered the carriage.

When he was inside, he noticed it again. He thought, he only imagined thing because he was not really sober when the first time he managed to get his consciousness back, but now he was sure about it.

"Your scent is slightly different..." Cane pulled Iris closer, as he sniffed her neck. The change was very subtle, even Ethan or Aliana, who used to be with her wouldn’t have noticed it, but Cane was very familiar with every inch of his mate’s body, especially her scent. He used to sleep by breathing in it...

"How is it different?" Iris didn’t know whether her scent was different or not, but she didn’t really need to know the answer of that.

Cane frowned, he breathed in and his warm breath tickled her skin. His brows creased, as if he was thinking deeply. He had the answer in his mind, but he didn’t think that was right. It definitely couldn’t be right...

However, something finally clicked in his mind after he thought about it thoroughly.

"No way..."

====================================

It’s not like what Aliana assumed Elder Rose was discussing when she met with Abby in her tent, she actually talked about different thing completely.

"There is no way for you to go back now," Elder Rose said with a mix of sorrow and disdain. She stared at Abby’s stomach, which made her very uncomfortable. "You have to give birth to that child now the elders had learned about it."

Abby gritted her teeth, she picked on her nails again under her sleeves, her eyes were slightly red because she held back her tears.

Elder Rose had been talking about hurtful thing to her and she thought by didn’t say anything, she would leave immediately, but from the look of it, her own mother was very determined to shame her thoroughly.

"What is wrong with that?" Abby finally asked, her voice was shaking because of how angry she was right now. "What is wrong to have this baby?"

"You are going to resent it. You are pregnant in the wrong time and with the wrong person. The baby shouldn’t be born."

"No." Abby was very firm with her answer. "I am not going to resent my child. I am going to love the baby. Just because you chose to hate me, it doesn’t me I will do the same to my child. I am going to give the love that I never got from you to my baby, because that’s what a mother should do."
