Chapter 859: WHY YOU DON’T WANT ME, MOTHER?
"She is pregnant." The healer that Ian found, confirmed Elder Rose’s suspicion about the change on Abby’s body. This was the last nail in the coffin for the Serafim, even Ian was shocked when he learned about this.
"You can leave," Elder Rose said, dismissed the healer from the room. "No. You stay. There are questions I need to ask you."
Ian was about to leave with the healer too when the elder told him to stay behind. Obediently, he stood in his place, he felt complicated when he saw the Serafim.
"No one knew about me calling for the healer?" Elder Rose asked Ian, making sure he knew this was not something that he could talk to other recklessly.
"Yes, Elder Rose. I was very careful when I look for the healer," he replied firmly, but he was not very secretive if the news about it already reached Iris without them knowing it.
Elder Rose nodded and then shifted her attention toward Abby, who was crying silently.
"Who is the father of the baby?" Elder Rose asked through her gritted teeth. She was very angry. She couldn’t stop trembling. "Tell me, who is the father of the baby."
Abby bit her lip. She wouldn’t say a single word. Because the moment she said the name, it would be the death of him.
Knowing Abby wouldn’t say it, Elder Rose turned around to ask the same question to Ian. That was why she wanted him to stay, because Abby could be stubborn.
"I don’t know... Elder Rose," Ian replied. He looked a little bit hesitant, thus Elder Rose changed her question.
"Between Cedric and Liam, who do you think is being so close with the Serafim?" Elder Rose asked again.
Ian thought about it for a while. "Cedric." He mentioned Cedric because Abby was not very close with Liam recently, the two of them looked awkward and tended to avoided each other, thus it was Cedric, who was always by her side.
"Drag him here!" Elder Rose roared and Ian immediately went away to get Cedric.
On the other hand, Abby widened her eyes. It was not Cedric, but she couldn’t bring herself to deny it, because it would only leave them with Liam, since the two of them were the only people that actually close to her.
"Elder Rose... please," Abby pleaded, but she didn’t know what to plea anymore. "What is so wrong with this?"
"What is so wrong?" Elder Rose knelt down and pinched her cheek, which made Abby flinched because her nails grazed her skin. "You have done something completely wrong! You have humiliated our Holy Kingdom! You are the Serafim! How could you have an indecent relationship with your own protector and having a child out of wedlock!? You have tarnished our reputation! Your own reputation! This child is an illegitimate child! This child is a bastard!"
Abby cried harder. She couldn’t contain her fear and grievances anymore. Out of instinct she hugged her belly, which only made Elder Rose even more furious.
"You can’t give birth to this child!" Her voice was very cold, as if the baby was a monster.
"Mother!" Abby cried, this was the second time she called her this. The first time she did it, Elder Rose corrected her immediately and made sure she would never repeat the same mistake again. "This is your grandchild!"
"Have I asked you for a grandchild?!" Elder Rose was enraged. "Especially the one with someone below your status? Out of wedlock?!"
=============================
Iris was surprised when she heard Cane’s voice and felt the warmth of his body against her. His familiar scent and the comfort that only he could offer.
"Cane?" Iris turned her body around and looked at his pale complexion, she cupped his face, as he leaned against her touch. He looked weak, but he was awake and that was what matter.
"Where have you been?" Cane repeated the same question again, as he closed his eyes.
He woke up, but he couldn’t find her, only her scent that lingered around this room, especially on him, indicating that Iris had been laying next to him.
"You need to lay down, I will call Grace," Iris said, she helped him to go back to the bed, but Cane didn’t want her to leave.
"No, stay here with me," Cane said, he grabbed her hand, but he was not strong enough to keep her by his side.
"No. Be good and lay down, I will call Grace for a while," Iris said sternly, she put the blanket over his body and went to the door to ask Zephyr, who was in charge there to call for Grace. "The alpha is awake."
All of them were surprised and cheered. They had been waiting for their alpha and knowing he would be fine now he was awake, the news about this spread immediately.
It didn’t take long for Grace to arrive and examine Cane, while Iris stayed by his side all this time.
"How is he?" She asked worriedly.
"You don’t need to be worried, luna. The alpha is fine now, he only needs to rest and drink his medicine, with his healing ability, within two or three days, he will be able to return to his normal state." Grace then left them to make a new concoction for the alpha, giving this information to the warriors, who looked very thrilled.
Meanwhile, inside the room, Iris felt this huge of weight was being lifted off her shoulders.
"You sleep so long, I missed you." Iris snuggled against him and rested her head against his chest like she used to do in the past few days, whenever she wanted a shred of comfort from him.
"How long?" Cane asked with hoarse voice, he fought back the sleepiness. Feeling her soft body against him was very comforting. He wanted to sleep and do not need to think of anything.
"Almost three weeks," Iris replied. "It’s almost summer now."
"What about..." Cane was about to ask about the current situation and Iris knew what he wanted to ask, she wouldn’t even let him started.
"Sleep, Cane. Don’t think too much, I have taken care of everything. You don’t need to worry." Iris caressed his forehead and lifted her body, so she could cradle his head against her chest, while he hugged her.
"Hm..." Cane mumbled, he then hugged her a little bit tighter and surrendered to his sleepiness. His mate said that she had taken care of everything and he believed her.
Cane only woke up when Iris helped her to drink his medicine that Grace just concocted, but after that, he slept throughout the night, so did Iris.
Both of the alpha and the luna slept well, but there were a few people, who didn’t even have a blink of sleep.
Abby was facing a grief situation, where she felt her whole world crumble around her feet. In front of her was a bowl of potion. This was the same potion that she asked Grace to make a few weeks ago, but she couldn’t bring herself to drink it.
And yet, here she was, having to face the same potion that the healer Ian brought had concocted. Elder Rose wanted her to drink the potion and flush her baby from her stomach.
Meanwhile, Cedric was kneeling in front of Elder Rose with the accusation of seducing and impregnating the Serafim hang above his head.
He knew it was not true, Abby knew that was not true as well, but she couldn’t bring herself to reveal the truth.
On the side line, Liam stood in his place, balled his fists, as he watched the woman she loved was forced to kill their baby and his childhood friend shut his mouth even though the accusation on him could end his life.
"Drink that before the other elders learned about this!" Elder Rose roared, she was livid to see Abby cried. She didn’t like it whenever she cried, because it only showed her weakness. It only emphasized other people’s opinion about her. The weakest Serafim. "Get rid of the baby before the other elder learned about this and I will send Cedric away. This will be the last time you see him. This is the only thing I can do."
Suddenly, Abby stopped crying, she lifted her head and stared at Elder Rose with so much hatred in her eyes, something that she had never done before.
"Is this how you felt when you are being pregnant with me?" Abby asked all of sudden. "Did you really want to get rid of me, but couldn’t because the previous elders had learned about your pregnancy before you could do anything with it?"
Elder Rose was taken aback with the question.
"This is why you think I will regret to have this baby, because you regret to have me?" Abby didn’t raise her voice, but it rang clearly in this silent room. "You want to get rid of me, that’s why you never love me, right mother? You never wished to have me. Why?"
Abby had learned about this long time ago and she refused to believe her own mother didn’t want her.
She always thought if she could do better and stop the disappointment sight in Elder Rose’s eyes, she would eventually love her. If she was a good daughter and an excellent Serafim like her mother, she would like her a little more.
However, the truth was right before her eyes. Her mother didn’t want her, even when she was still in her womb, she resented her.
"I will not drink it."
