The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 657: A GOOD KARMA FOR HER BABY
Chapter 657: A GOOD KARMA FOR HER BABY
Joel and Finn were well aware of what happened between Iris and Sofia, everyone from the Howling Wolf pack knew about this.
That was why, Finn told Sofia to hide behind a tree, before joined the fight earlier with Joel. The only enemy around them were the fifteen warriors from Diandem pack, based on that Finn and Joel felt find to leave Sofia and the baby for a while, after all the target was not them.
If they were not being stopped by Grory and Argean, they wouldn’t have met with each other, but now they were here, Iris could choose whether she was willing to see Sofia and the baby or she could go ahead first and avoid them.
The soft cry from the baby filled the air and Iris touched her stomach out of instinct. She would be a mother too and it felt really ridiculous if she risked their life for being petty.
"No, let’s go together. Call her over." Iris was not sure what she felt right now, it felt what happened in the Howling Wolf pack happened for so long time ago and she had nothing but indifferent.
Yet, the only reason for her to let Sofia joined her group, probably because, no matter what, the baby was innocent and the little one was Redmond’s and despite her feeling toward Sofia, Iris didn’t want to harm innocent baby and Redmond’s flesh and blood, the baby was his firstborn and Iris knew how important a firstborn for a shifter.
Not to mention there was Joel. Iris wanted to make sure Joel and Finn were fine.
"Are you sure, luna?" Joel asked, a little bit reluctant. "We can..."
Iris shook her head and cut his sentence. "We need to move quickly, right? Let’s go, it will be dangerous if we stay here for long."
"Oh, okay. Alright." Joel and Finn nodded, the two of them went to where Sofia was hiding and returned not long after with her and the baby.
This must be the first time for Iris to see Sofia again and to see Redmond’s baby. From what she heard, Sofia gave birth to a baby boy and she could see how his red hair peeked from his swaddle. The sight of the baby softened her heart.
Meanwhile, Aliana watched the change on Iris’s expression and now she was starting to doubt herself, whether she saw it wrong. The way Iris smirked earlier, as if she was enjoying the pain that happened to Argean and Grory. Was it her? Did she the one, who had done it? Did she the one, who had inflicted the pain?
One thing for sure, Iris was not shocked at all to see the two warriors suddenly wailed in pain and bled profusely, even when no one touched them.
Black magic.
Did the luna really use black magic? But, that was not possible. She was not a magic user... no. She had the strange ability, which was on par with a magic user. Did she really do that?
The other warriors had the same question like Aliana, but they couldn’t voice it out because there were more important things they had to do and focus on right now. They put aside their curiosity and weird feeling regarding what happened earlier, because right now they needed to guard the luna to the safety.
On the other hand, Sofia kept her head down, she didn’t dare to meet with Iris’s eyes, as she kept her baby close to her chest. She was very quiet, as they proceeded to go through this secret passageway.
She knew enough to stay as far away from Iris as possible.
========================
"What is that? What is that sound? Why do they stop?" Nala came closer toward Lou, she was listening the sudden silence behind the door. Those warriors that had been trying to barge into the room, abruptly stopped their attempt.
"Help me up," Lou said, he stretched out his hand, asking Nala to pull him up, so he could stand up.
"You are very heavy!" Nala protested, but she helped him anyway. Lou then pulled her away from the door and not long after, the cabinet moved on its own. "What is that? How it happened? We need to stop..."
"No. Stay." Lou kept Nala by his side and he was breathing heavily. Dang it! Cane should have created a better plan than this!
Not long after, the cabinet was completely moved aside and Sabian entered the room. "Master! I am sorry for being late. It is hard to locate you!" But then, his eyes fell on Nala and he went quiet.
For a moment, Nala tried to comprehend this and finally it clicked on her mind. "You are a sorcerer?" She couldn’t believe it. She had spent time long enough with Sabian, but the idea of him to be a sorcerer had never crossed her mind.
Nala then shifted her attention toward Lou beside her and blinked her eyes when she saw how calm he was. "You knew about this. You knew he is a sorcerer." This was not a question, but a statement.
"He has been tailing me for decades, I will be a fool if I don’t know he is not a sorcerer," Lou replied lazily.
Hearing that, Sabian wanted to cry. Tailing him? Why his master made it sounded like he was a puppy? More so, he was not the only sorcerer in this room, just because Lou was too exhausted to use magic and he currently doesn’t have magic stone in his possession, it wouldn’t discount the fact he was a magic user himself.
"We need to leave now, the warriors from Winter Moon pack have been fighting to take control this place, it will not take them so long to finally get what they wanted." Sabian came over and took Lou’s weigh from Nala, helped them to move a little bit faster. They needed to reach the secret passageway before this place was completely sealed.
"Where is Iris?" Lou’s first concern was her. He wanted to make sure Cane’s plan worked well on his mate.
"I think the luna has been escorted right away to the safety. She has seven personal warriors with her and the lady that attend to her, I heard, is a good fighter too."
Nala’s eyes dimmed when she heard that. Why Lou would care about Iris? She was not even his woman and that woman didn’t care about him, but why he was being very concern about her well being? Why the two men she had interested in was having a strong feeling about that runt?
Nala couldn’t hold back her bitterness, she was appalled by how Lou and Cane cared so much about that woman. What quality that Iris had that she didn’t? Why she always became a second thought?
"Make sure to treat your wound," Lou said suddenly to Nala, as he nodded at the blood on her forehead. "I don’t want to see scar there."
Nala wiped the blood and touched her head. "You don’t need to worry about that. My healing ability has taken care of it." Nala was being a little bit snippy with Lou. "That’s a good thing to be a shifter."
Lou ignored her comment and tone, as he glanced at her forehead and nodded. "Good."
Somehow, Nala noticed how Lou hated to see scar, probably that was why the merchant had never really been in a good term with Cane and he couldn’t stand the sight of him for long.
===========================
When Iris and the other arrived at first checkpoint, they met with four merchants, who had dealt with Cane and Lou about the grain. Their expression looked very ashen. From what Iris learned, they had been wanting to leave Diandem pack before this battle broke out, but Cane didn’t allow them, just in case they would write another letter to cancel everything and backed out from their deal.
That was something that possible to happen and Lou agree with that decision, since he admitted himself without any trace of shame at all that it would be something he would do if he were in their shoes.
"So, the luna is here finally, we can move now, right?" one of the merchants said in sarcastic tone when he saw Iris. He arrived in this checkpoint first and they needed to wait for Iris before they could go to Bloody Wolf pack.
"Watch your mouth," Zephyr growled, all of them were not in a good mood at this moment and the murky sky didn’t help at all. It was very depressing without any sunlight for days. When this strange phenomenon would stop?
Zale helped Iris to enter her carriage, but before that, she realized there were only two carriages.
"She will be in the same carriage with me?" Iris asked Aliana. She sat down comfortably inside. This carriage was the one they took from the Riverside pack and Haco had put spell around it, so the conversation from inside wouldn’t be able to be heard for the people outside.
"No, Luna, she will wait for her carriage." Aliana glanced through the window. "I think they are a little bit late." She knew who ’she’ Iris referred to.
"It meant, Joel and Finn will stay behind with her?"
"Yes, the two of them were assigned to protect her and the baby." Aliana nodded. She felt a little bit worried because the carriage for Sofia should be here, but they couldn’t see it.
"Ask her to come inside," Iris said.
"Pardon me?" Aliana was surprised.
"This carriage is spacious enough for her and the baby." Iris didn’t want to repeat this. She still strongly disliked Sofia, thinking she was coveting her mate, but this was not the time for that.
Aliana was surprised when she heard that. For Iris to be the one, who suggested the idea, knowing what Sofia had put her through when she was in the Howling Wolf pack, Aliana felt she saw another side of her luna that people had to know.
She must have seen it wrongly when she saw the way Iris smirked earlier.
"Are you sure, luna?" Aliana wanted to make sure that Iris was really fine with her decision. "You don’t need to do that. Her carriage will be here."
"I am fine, call her inside. We need to leave immediately right?" Iris was worried about Cane, she prayed he would be fine. He promised her that he would be fine and he had everything under his control.
Iris didn’t know the detail of his plan, since he didn’t want to share it with her, but whatever it was, she really hoped it would work.
"Don’t be too kind." Aliana tried to persuade her. "You don’t need to sacrifice your own comfort for her."
In this cruel world, being too kind could be a double edge dagger for you. It could be a strength, but it could harm you too.
Iris caressed her stomach. "I know." She smiled gently. "I invite her inside not because I have forgotten what happened..." After all, Sofia believed she was carrying Cane’s baby at that time. "I only wish I can accumulate a good karma for my baby." In her mind, she was simply helping a helpless baby.
Aliana understood, she bit her lip when she watched the way Iris caressed her stomach gently and the softness in her eyes. She knew how it felt....
"Okay."
Aliana then came out of the carriage and informed Joel and Finn that Sofia could come inside the carriage with the luna.
"Are you sure? Luna said that?" Finn was also surprised. He glanced at Sofia, who was listening to their conversation. She had been very anxious, because she wanted to leave. She was afraid there were being ambushed like before and they harmed her baby.
"Yes, let’s move quickly," Aliana said, she beckoned Sofia to follow her.
Sofia looked hesitated, but then she didn’t have another choice.
