Chapter 633: THE STORM IS HERE (4)
"I don’t feel black magic, but I do feel something ominous, I think it is because the rain is not usual." Iris then proceeded to explain what she meant by this when Cane asked her. "It almost felt like... when you feel like something bad will happen..."
Iris frowned, she didn’t think her description was right, because at this point, ’bad things’ would definitely happen. They were going into a battle with the royal warrior after all, once they made a move.
"It’s okay." Cane stretched out his hand and caressed her cheek, he leaned over to kiss the tip of her nose, to reassure her everything would be alright. "Follow Aliana and stay close with your warriors, understood?"
At that time, Iris felt the unusual tension. "What happened? Something is wrong? Why did you ask Aliana to gather people in the training ground?" She glanced at the window and was sure the black rain was still pouring down. It was morning, but the sky was as dark as the night. It would make anyone felt unsettling. "The black rain is still pouring, is it okay to be exposed under such rain?" Iris felt anxious. She bit her lip and stared at her mate with furrow between her brows.
"It’s okay." Cane hugged her and then told her what happened, since there was no way to hide this important detail from her. "The royal warriors had made their move. Probably, this will not be safe, so I want you to leave if things went wrong."
Iris immediately pushed Cane away from her. She widened her eyes to protest, but Cane had spoke first.
"You promised me that you will agree with me, in this situation."
Iris shook her head. "No. You must have remembered it wrongly, because I have never said that I agreed with you." That was right. The topic changed before she gave the answer and Iris let it be, since that was how Cane used to avoid giving a definitive answer. She used the same method like him, which Cane found this endearing.
"You learn a lot." Cane stared at her upset mate tenderly. She had grown so much within a year they were together, but in fact, it was not only Iris, but he also had changed. He learned a lot from her too.
Iris might not realize it, but she helped him tremendously to navigate his feeling and slowly find his old self back. It was very free and calming every time he held her in his arms. She soothed his anger and appeased his anxiety. Her presence alone could pacify the turmoil within him.
"Cane, I don’t want to leave," Iris said, she felt very awful right now. She didn’t know what to feel and what to prioritize and Cane felt guilty when he said the next thing.
"Think about our child. You need to be safe. Both of you need to be safe."
He didn’t want to use their child in this way, it felt so wrong to pressure her by using the baby, but Iris wouldn’t listen.
Cane kissed her neck, while Iris started sobbing and they heard the knock on the door, it was Aliana, telling him that everything was ready.
"I need to go." Cane released her from his arms and Iris started panicking.
"No..." She clutched his clothes. "At least, let me go with you to the training ground, please."
They argued back and forth for a while, but this time, Iris was adamant, she could be very stubborn when she really wanted something.
Meanwhile, Lil Thing woke up and let out noises at Cane, because the alpha stressed her out.
In the end, Cane agreed only with the condition, Iris would stay inside the carriage and wouldn’t go out at all. It had been proven the black rain didn’t have any bad effect, but he still didn’t want her to touch it.
Cane walked out of the bedroom while holding Iris’s hand and Lil Thing followed behind them. The bear also followed behind the carriage when they went to the training ground.
"You need to listen to Aliana. Whatever she said and decided, you need to listen to her, understood?" Cane wanted this assurance from his mate.
It was so hard for Iris to agree with that, but then she didn’t have any other choice, because she couldn’t bring herself to put herself at risk with this pregnancy. She would be very devastated if she was being reckless and hurt the baby.
Iris nodded, but she didn’t let go of Cane’s hand. "Please, promise me to be careful. You need to comeback." Iris sniffled and then her voice turned very cold. "Kill them all."
She was very upset because her happy moment was disturbed, she couldn’t really feel happy with her pregnancy when there was this threat. She hated them all, who wanted to ruin her happiness.
Cane chuckled when he heard her last words. "Okay." He didn’t expect there would be a day Iris was the one, who asked for the killing order. He kissed her lips, while she was pouting and this time, he heard Lou’s screeching voice from outside.
"Lil Thing! It has been a while when the last time I saw you! Do you miss me?!" Lou went to Lil Thing with opened arms, but the bear actually turned around and gave him its back, which made the other warriors around the carriage chuckled.
"You gifted it to our luna, remembered?" Aliana reminded Lou of what he had done.
"Hey, I gave it to Iris because it likes to be with her, I sacrificed my feeling so it can be close with her. It didn’t mean I abandoned it!" Lou protested.
"Whatever." Aliana rolled her eyes. Didn’t want to engage in futile argumentation with this merchant.
"Look, I care for people and creature that I like, okay?"
Right at that time, the door of the carriage slammed opened and Cane came out, his expression was as dark as the sky, with a storm raging under his skin.
The loud sound of the carriage door and the dark expression on the alpha’s face made the merchant jumped out of his skin.
"You almost gave me a heart attack!" Lou complained.
Cane walked down the carriage and then beckoned him to follow him, but then he narrowed his eyes at Nala.
The woman was actually standing next to Lou, while holding an umbrella for him.
"Will you take her to the frontline too?" Cane nodded at Nala.
"Can I?" Lou asked back innocently, but Cane growled. "I need her to hold the umbrella. I don’t want to get dirty under this strange rain." Lou was disgusted by this black water like ink that poured down from the storm clouds.
This time, Cane’s eyes fixed on Nala, who immediately looked down, because she was caught staring at him. She still had this fluttering feeling in her stomach, every time she saw Cane.
"Leave."
That was only a word, but it was enough to make Nala stepped back and did what she was told. Probably, this was the effect of her upbringing, since she always followed the instruction of someone from higher status, a dominant figure like Cane.
From her father, her brother, the men that took pleasure from her, the king and now Lou. But, because Cane was more intimidating, she leaned on following his order instead out of instinct, which caused the black rain poured on the merchant and dirtied his body.
"Damn it!" Lou cursed under his breath, but Nala had rushed away from him, as the merchant glared at her. "I will make you pay for this!"
"Pray you will be alive after this," Cane said coldly and then continued to walk toward the training ground, where thousand of the warriors had gathered together, including alpha Nolan.
"What do you mean with that? I am not going out to fight against those shifters, okay."
"Yes, you are."
"What?! No! I am not a shifter!"
"You fought against the royal before."
"Yes, to help your pack!"
"Exactly."
"Now, I regret it."
Cane ignored his last comment. "Find something in this rain?"
Lou’s red cloak was dirty, his skin covered in black color, which made him looked miserable. He used to dress properly and neatly, as if a speck of dust didn’t even want to settle on his clothes, but right now, he was at lost. The merchant wouldn’t want to see his reflection on the mirror.
"Nothing," Lou grumbled. "I am not using my magic so often. I think I am lacking in that aspect. I think I am a weak sorcerer."
"Hm. Figure."
"What do you mean with that? Do you really think I am weak?!" Lou was furious because Cane agreed with him. He should have disagreed. The alpha knew very well that he was not a weakling, right?!
By this time, they were already in the training ground and Ethan snickered to see how miserable the merchant was.
Inside the carriage, Iris stared at Cane’s retreating back. She felt this anxiety that gnawed in her chest. She didn’t want to be left alone, but then she knew the situation didn’t allow her to clung onto Cane. She felt unwell.
"Luna, we need to go back to your room. Don’t worry, everything will be fine," Aliana said, trying to reassure her. She was drenched under this black rain, so did the rest of the warriors. "The alpha will make sure the enemy will not reach the gates."
But, it meant, those royal warriors had destroyed five villages on their way here.
