The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 606: HIDDEN INTENTION AND SCHEMES

Chapter 606: HIDDEN INTENTION AND SCHEMES

"Alpha Nolan, may I know what are you doing here?" Cane asked darkly, his black eyes fixed on the man in front of him.

"I only want to greet your new mate, Cane. You don’t need to be so hostile. It’s not like I am going to harm her with a lot of warriors that you put around her." Alpha Nolan shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. "She said she will show me the bear and I am so interested to see the creature."

"I will show it to you," Cane said curtly.

Seeing this, alpha Nolan chuckled lightly. "Luna Iris, you should get used to the alpha’s overprotective nature. He did the same thing to my daughter too. He was even willing to give up hundred of magic stone for Leana to stay in his pack." He clapped back with the way Iris talked to him earlier.

What alpha Nolan was trying to hint was so clear as day, he compared Iris and Leana. No, he wanted to say the treatment Iris received was still not on par with the way Cane treated his daughter. He tried to subtly create a discord between them, to see how this couple would react.

"Are you trying to remind me of how you tried to sell your own daughter for a couple of hundred magic stone? Because that’s the attitude you showed my father when you suggested the price for Leane to stay in the pack," Cane replied. He looked so calm, that kind of calm before storm and this room was too small to be able to withstand it.

Cane stretched out his hand and pulled Iris to his side, while the warriors looked so tensed outside of the room, they were ready to jump and secure Iris and Zale if things went south, because they believed their alpha would be able to handle alpha Nolan.

But surprisingly, the young boy didn’t show any sign of fear at all, he stared at the two alphas back and forth. He felt a little bit better, but he still looked pale, yet his eyes shone brightly when he watched the tension situation before him and this didn’t go unnoticed by Cane.

Strangely, this young boy had a gut bigger than some full fledge warriors.

"Oh, you misunderstood me, Cane." Alpha Nolan still conveniently forgot how to address Cane properly. "I thought that was a decent amount for a betrothal gift for my dearest daughter. I have never thought you will see it as me selling Leana away to you."

Iris could sense how tensed up Cane was. It was not like him to be so riled up, he had been very adamant for her not to meet with alpha Nolan and here they were, cramped in a small room with a subtle of hostility and bitterness in the air.

"Stay away from her, Nolan," Cane warned him sternly. Since alpha Nolan refused to address him with his title, Cane didn’t see the need to be polite with him when he didn’t receive the same respect.

After saying that, Cane positioned Iris in front of him because he didn’t want her out of his sight, but before he could leave, alpha Nolan reminded him again.

"I can see how the luna is already healthy now, don’t you think this is the right time to leave to the Red Claw pack? I don’t like to receive letter after letter about when we are planning to go. Alpha Colter can be so whinny." Alpha Nolan nodded at Iris. "She is healthy enough to perform healing power on that boy. I think if you don’t want to leave, I can take her just fine with me. After all, the Serafim asked for her, you don’t need to come with us."

Cane pushed Iris lightly outside of the room and the other warriors immediately surrounded her to walk her away from this brewing storm between the alphas.

"She is my mate, I decided where she will be." The merchant would arrive and Cane needed to deal with them first before they marched to the Red Claw pack. "She is not going anywhere without me."

Alpha Nolan smirked. "There." He clicked his tongue. "You show your weakness, Cane. You did the same mistake again when you show how much you are being affectionate with your mate. You put the target on her head. Both of us know the basic rule of this world, when your enemies couldn’t take you down, they will start looking for your weakness and you flaunt her around."

Alpha Nolan shook his head.

"You and your father are the same; naïve and stupidly in love. That’s the reason why the Howling Wolf pack fell from its grace a decade ago." Alpha Nolan approached Cane. "Don’t start to complain about me not helping you in the past, because its your pack and she was your mate, if you failed to protect them, then its your fault to begin with. Keep showing your affection toward her and you will see how she died because of it."

His words really hit the nail on the head.

Men from the Howling Wolf pack were different, as they still held their old tradition faithfully to be only with their destined mate and most of them performed fidelity. They were also more affectionate with their mate.

Therefore, this was a glaring difference of behavior, which most of the shifters saw it as weakness.

"Cane, this is a fatherly advice for you," Alpha Nolan softened his voice when Cane didn’t say anything. He looked affected so much by what he was saying earlier.

The death of Leane still left a huge hole in his heart, especially when he was reminded that was his fault when he already felt that was indeed his mistake for not being able to protect her and their son.

"Take more mistress, so your enemy will not focus on the woman you really favor, it will keep her safer, especially when she can’t protect herself. We are going out to battle the royal and the dark sorcerer after all. If you really care about her, you will know what to do."

Alpha Nolan’s eyes glinted with victory when he saw the way Cane was deep in thought. He patted his shoulder and then left the room, but once alpha Nolan disappeared, Cane’s eyes hardened, there was a flicker of wickedness in his black eyes, as a vicious smirk appeared on the corner of his lips.

Iris couldn’t protect herself?

A year ago, Cane would believe that, but right now, he knew his sweet mate could end their lives if she wanted to. For the better or worse, she had the lycan wrapped around her slender fingers, not to mention how she could strangle your wolf spirit by only thinking about it. That was what Iris told him about how she helped them during the attack from the Silver Warrior.

Cane was still trying to figure out what Nolan’s true intention was, but he was sure with one thing; he wanted to sow discord between him and Iris, but what for?

"Alpha, you don’t think to take a mistress, right?" Zale suddenly opened his mouth, he didn’t look happy and he didn’t even bother to hide it, how pissed he was to think his luna would be cheated on.

Cane almost forgot about this little boy inside the room, until he spoke with his hoarse voice.

"What if I do?" Cane usually didn’t engage in this kind of conversation, but this young boy was very interesting. He was not afraid to die, he didn’t even give a shit that he was the alpha. He was so brave, but borderline dumb.

His bravery could get him into trouble if he didn’t know how to read the situation and Cane didn’t want such person to be around his mate, yet still, he praised this young boy’s gut.

A low growl vibrated from the young shifter, as his eyes turned menacing, such eyes shouldn’t belong to a boy around his age.

"Are you going to kill me now?" Cane raised his brows. It was interesting to know what kind of answer he would give him.

"I will not be able to kill you now, but I will find a way to do it if you really take a mistress." Zale openly showed his hostility.

"Very loyal, huh?"

"Luna Iris saved my life and gave my little sister a proper burial, I will dedicate my life for her. My life belongs to her."

"I don’t think she wants such burden."

Zale gritted his teeth. "I will not be a burden for her!"

"Listen Zale," Cane called his name, instead of degrading him with the fact how young he was, which showed, he talked to him equally. "I praise you for your bravery, but if you don’t know when to shut up and read the situation, you will bring my mate into unnecessary trouble if I let you stay with her. So, its either you learn how to control your anger, or I can kick you out from her side."

"I will not go anywhere!"

"Control your anger, Zale. If you let people see through you, you are done." This young boy had potential, he was so loyal to Iris somehow, but his attitude was even worse than Redmond. "Come to me when I am free, I will teach you a thing or two."

After saying that, Cane left the room, leaving Zale dumbfounded with his parting words. He didn’t think the alpha will spare his time for him. What he was going to teach him?
