The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 604: HARMLESS PERSON
Chapter 604: HARMLESS PERSON
Shiver ran down Nala’s spine when the merchant showed such strong hostility toward her. This was the first time, he glared at her very viciously, as if he was going to strangle her to death.
Nala feared for her life when she was in the hand of the king, but this was different kind of fear when the easy going Lou looked so menacing like this. She didn’t dare to raise her head, neither she had the courage to breathe a little bit louder. She wanted to disappear and make him stop staring at her, it was very suffocating.
While Lou said nothing, the silence was heavy.
"Lou, I am sorry..." Nala said in small voice. She was so scared out of her wits right now. All the possibility came to her mind and she couldn’t help, but thinking the worst and the worst thing possible that could happen was; this merchant killed her, because that’s how it looked like.
"Next time," Lou finally talked, but his voice sounded like a growl. "Next time if you were going to butt on in a conversation, remember that I am going to toss you out on the street or feed you to the monster. Understood?"
Nala nodded vigorously. "Y- yes, understood."
Next time.
She could breathe in relief right now because it meant Lou gave her another chance and she would make sure she didn’t blurt out anything without his permission.
"Sit outside, I don’t want to see your face!" Lou growled and slid down to sleep on his bed inside the carriage, while Nala clambered out to sit next Sabian, as the old man controlled the horses.
She tightened her cloak around her body because it was a cold night.
Sabian glanced at her, felt a little bit pity because Lou was so harsh, but then he understood his master better. When he was in a fault mood, it would be better if you stayed away from him, because he could do something irrational.
"Here, drink this. You will feel a little bit warm," Sabian said, giving Nala his waterskin that filled with alcohol.
Nala accepted it and he was right, it made her body felt a little bit warmer, but her heart was still so cold, she was still shaking in fear.
Meanwhile, the other carriage ahead of them was as quiet as the night, since the baby had fallen asleep.
Redmond was kicked out of the carriage by Sofia because his question agitated her, but once there was no sound from inside, he went to check on the woman and the baby and found out the two of them had fallen asleep.
With a frown, Redmond stared at the baby, he pursed his tiny lips and clutched onto Sofia’s front dress.
The red hair warrior kept staring at the little one with complicated gaze and then raised his hand to nudge his cheek with his finger. It felt so soft and squeezy, but it made him deepened his frown.
The softness of his cheek was so strange and he was not familiar with it.
"So, this is the thing inside her stomach..." Redmond murmured to himself and then immediately scurried away when the baby creased his soft brows, he was afraid this little thing cried again, so he stopped bothering him and stayed beside the coachman. "Ride the carriage slowly, I will get a headache if the baby woke up," he warned the warrior beside him, looked unhappy.
"I still can’t believe it, the baby is not the alpha," the warrior started talking, because the night was so long and he needed to voice out his grievance, unfortunately, there was only Redmond there. "We are really waiting for the new member of the Nortern family."
Redmond scrunched his nose, the topic irked him. "Ck. You believe your alpha unconditionally, but when he didn’t even want to claim the baby and the woman as his, you made assumption and foolishly believed your own imagination. If there was someone at fault it would be you and your stupidity."
The warrior glared at him. "It’s easy for you to talk like that because you don’t care."
Redmond shrugged his shoulder. "You are right, I don’t care. Your alpha doesn’t care, then why do you care?" he scoffed.
"Because this is my pack and the bloodline of the alpha is very important."
"So, are you going to accept all those pregnant women knocking on your door one day and claiming that they are pregnant with the alpha’s child?" Redmond looked at the warrior beside him disdainfully.
"We assumed that woman was pregnant with the alpha’s child because Kaz believed that!" he retorted a little bit angrily, but Redmond had none of it.
It was such ridiculous excuse.
"How stupid. If you believed the old maid and the old steward’s words more than you believed your alpha, you should make them your alpha and luna, they make a great couple actually."
==========================
As much as Cane didn’t want for Iris to meet with alpha Nolan, he couldn’t prevent them to not meet with each other for too long, especially when this alpha had actively sought her out.
On the third day he was in the Diandem pack, he ’happened’ to bump onto Iris and her warriors as she was on her way to see Zale because Zephyr said he was sick after training under the rain yesterday.
Yes, the rainy season had started.
The young shifter would get sick easily because their healing ability had not yet fully developed, especially for a young one like Zale, who used to be underfed and now he trained himself excessively because he wanted to prove himself to Iris.
However, on her way to see him, she bumped onto alpha Nolan.
"Auburn hair and blue eyes," Alpha Nolan remarked. "You must be Iris, the luna of the Howling Wolf pack, Cane’s current mate, right?"
The unnecessary word of ’current’ didn’t go unnoticed by Iris. If he meant ’current’, it meant there was a previous luna before her, which was very true, since it was his daughter.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you, alpha Nolan," Iris said politely, while the seven warriors behind her tensed up. They knew the story about this man more than Iris did and the complication of his appearance here.
There was no explanation to why the alpha didn’t allow their luna to meet with him and Iris also was well aware of that.
But to think they would bump onto each other right now felt very suspicious to say this was only a coincidence. More so, the alpha was away to take care of something with Ethan.
"You look well." Alpha Nolan stared at Iris closely. This was the first time they met each other and from what he heard the new mate of Cane was a runt and she was deaf.
But, when he arrived here, he heard she was able to hear now and performed healing ability. This was why she was called to the Red Claw pack to meet with the Serafim there.
It would be such a blow for the Holy Kingdom if this runt was able to cure the curse on the baby, while the Serafim couldn’t.
"Thank you for your concern and medicine, I am feeling better now." Iris tried to keep her composure, despite the tension in the air. She handled it well enough.
"Did you drink the medicine?" Alpha Nolan raised his brows. Amusement danced behind his eyes when he heard that. "I don’t know that Cane could be very careless to actually give you the medicine. An alpha shouldn’t have done that and he should be more careful."
Iris pressed her lips lightly, she knew this alpha was trying to drag Cane down in front of her and his people.
They received the medicine from alpha Nolan and Cane checked it with Grace, just in case this alpha was up to something and had a hidden intention to harm his mate, but even after the healer confirmed the herbs were alright, Cane still tossed it to the fireplace.
However, there was no way Iris would tell alpha Nolan about that.
"We have our healer to check on the medicine." She was not lying when she told him this. "More so, Cane will not be so rude to throw your genuine gesture." Well, Cane was indeed very rude in this case.
Iris defended her mate for being called reckless. They just met for a few minutes, but he already pissed her off.
"After all, you were his destined mate’s father."
Iris knew this was what Alpha Nolan wanted to talk about and it would be better if she just ripped the bandage off and started the topic, since it was inevitable.
Hearing this, alpha Nolan’s eyes glinted with amusement. He didn’t think the rumored runt could be this standoffish in front of him. Wasn’t she supposed to be a docile one? She looked so small for shifter, she stood at least a head and half shorter than the seven warriors behind her, but you couldn’t overlook her presence.
Her auburn hair and her blue eyes were very distinguished, but there was more than that.
"This is very presumptuous to think that way." Alpha Nolan smiled, he looked polite and respectful. "But, I wonder one thing, have you ever met with the Serafim from the Holy Kingdom?"
Iris shook her head and told him, she only knew her name.
"Both of you look so similar, especially with your blue eyes. I wonder if your mother was from Andelus continent." His eyes scrutinized her carefully.
