The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 535: WHAT HAPPENED IN THE CAPITAL

Chapter 535: WHAT HAPPENED IN THE CAPITAL

No one knew what kind of power that Iris held, aside from Haco and Cane, everyone else was also still clueless why the lycan suddenly appeared and managed to take over Cane’s body when it had never happened before.

The reason why it could happen was because Iris weakened Cane’s wolf spirit, which gave access to the lycan to dominate Cane’s body.

The same thing happened to Alpha Gill when Iris hurt his wolf spirit, which rendered him useless and unable to shift into his beast.

But right now, Iris got a better understanding of Na’s power within her and her intention was clear. She wanted Mason to die.

For what Mason had put her through and all the slaves that he had tortured to death and misery, Iris wanted him to die. This quick death was not something he deserved, but with his death, Iris managed to learn something; she held the power to kill a shifter without even touching them!

Iris had never really thought about this before, maybe deep down, she knew what she could do, but she was not completely aware of the extent of the damage it could cause.

The news thrilled her, as she realized, there was nothing she needed to be feared of anymore. No one could hurt her and Kellan could meet his demise just like Mason.

The more Iris thought about it, the more enticing it was for her and she felt like she was being sucked into a rabbit hole. She could kill any shifter, no matter who displeased her and the more she thought about it, the more she felt the comfort and safety she had never felt before.

As someone who used to be at the bottom of the power display, holding this kind of power gave her reassurance.

The more Iris thought about it, the darker her mind got and the more the five swords cracked...

"Luna!" Eron tapped her shoulder, snapping her back from her reverie, as all her dark thoughts disappeared, as if it was only something that crossed her mind without any meaning.

"Yes?" Iris looked at him with confusion. She blinked her eyes to clear her mind, as she faced the reality she was in.

"I have been talking with you, but you didn’t seem to hear what I said." Eron looked worried. "Are you okay? Should we go back to the pack house?"

Iris looked to her right side, they were already at the entrance of the orphanage. "No. I want to see Haco," she replied in the same way and then walked into the building.

It didn’t take long for Iris to find Haco, as the old sorcerer was dozing off while leaning against a window. He started to sleep very often recently and tended to be very tired after doing something easy.

After the attack, where he used so much of his power, it seemed his health had been deteriorating pretty quickly. Therefore, he had been told not to do anything and Cane took away all the magic stones from his possession. This was for his own good. He didn’t need them at times like this anyway.

From the looks of it, if his condition kept deteriorating like this, he would have less than half a year rather than less than a year.

"Haco," Iris called his name softly, as she nudged his arm, while the seven warriors kept their distance from her. They were not too far, so they could immediately reach her if something happened, but they were not too close to hear the conversation between her and Haco either. "Wake up, please. There is something I want to ask."

Before, she would have let him sleep, not wanting to bother him, but this time was different, she was in dire need of explanation, even if Haco didn’t have any, she wanted to know what he was thinking about this matter.

"Haco, please, wake up." Iris shook his arm to wake him up, but only after fifteen minutes did the old sorcerer open his eyes.

"Iris?" Haco narrowed his eyes and Iris was glad, he didn’t forget about her like before. It was a dreadful feeling to be forgotten by a person you cared about. "What are you doing here?" He rubbed his face. "Where are we?"

"We are in the orphanage," Iris replied, while Haco looked a little bit disoriented, but then he nodded, seemingly not wanting to think about such a trivial matter.

"This orphanage looks a little bit different..." Haco mumbled. "Why did you come looking for me?"

"There are a few things I want to ask you." Iris looked so gentle when she talked with Haco. All murderous thoughts were forgotten at this moment, as if such thoughts had never crossed her mind at all.

"Hm?" Haco tilted his head. "What things?"

"Haco, I just killed Mason," Iris admitted it openly and told him what she had done. Meanwhile, the old sorcerer only raised his eyebrows and didn’t seem to sympathize with her older brother, he didn’t even try to fake it.

In the end, Haco simply nodded, as if saying; he deserved that. But, that was not the thing Iris wanted to tell him.

"Haco. You told me if the wolf spirit died, the human side could still be alive, but Mason died." Iris wanted to make sure about this information.

"Iris, that could happen, if both sides were in good condition, of course, and you killed their spirit, it would only affect the body, in Mason’s case, his body couldn’t endure the pain. He was as good as dead if I could say."

Iris nodded, understanding the explanation. "In that case, if I can heal the spirit, I can heal the body too, right?"

"Well, the logic is like that, but I don’t have such power and my knowledge about the first Serafim is based on scripts that I read more than five decades ago." Not to mention Haco had started to lose his memories gradually, thus he couldn’t really rely on that.

"If I can heal Joel’s wolf spirit, I can heal him too, right?" Iris could grasp this concept when she killed Mason’s wolf spirit. She could feel the spirit struggling in her grip and how she got aware of all the pain and the injuries that Mason sustained once she got a hold of the spirit.

However, her anger got the better of her and she didn’t have the capacity to look into it further before she squeezed the spirit to its death. The feeling when she killed the spirit was almost therapeutic and this... scared her. How could she find comfort in killing someone?

But then, Iris justified it. Mason deserved it.

Surprisingly, his death didn’t really weigh on her mind and her main focus was how to heal Joel if she could help the young warrior in anyway.

"I am not sure about that and can’t give you a definite answer. I am not a healer and my power is so different from yours." Haco could only help her with theory, while the rest, Iris needed to figure it out herself. "If you really want to know, you can give it a try."

That was the easiest way, but Iris doubted herself. "What if I accidentally hurt him even more?" The thought that she could accidentally kill Joel terrified her.

Haco thought about it for a while, but then he spoke clearly. "I think the result will be based on your intention. You didn’t kill Alpha Gill because that was the first time you saw a wolf spirit, there was a high chance you had not yet grasped the power completely, which resulted in you only hurting him.

"While with Cane, you don’t have any intention to hurt him, you only wanted to get away from him, not kill him, but with your brother, your intention was very clear and you got a hold of your power better than before." Haco shrugged his shoulders. "This is just my theory."

Iris contemplated it for a while before she decided. "I will go see Joel," she said.

"Hm. Go." Haco nodded and then yawned again. "Don’t forget to tell Avid her wife was looking for him." He closed his eyes and started dozing off again.

However, hearing his last sentence, Iris felt a pang in her heart. She swallowed with so much difficulty. She was not sure what moment Haco was remembering when he said that.

Avid was dead and Haco forgot about that.

================================

"Mason died?" Cane narrowed his eyes when he received the news from Ethan. "What was the cause of his death?"

Ethan looked complicated when he told him about what had happened. "Grace has been called and we still need to wait for the cause of it."

"Where is Iris?" Cane walked away from the training ground with his gamma following behind him.

"Eron must have escorted her back to the pack house." Ethan then blocked Cane’s way, as he stood in front of him. "Cane, there are a few important pieces of news that you need to know. I received them only now."

Cane stopped walking and saw how serious Ethan was, a rare sight to be seen, which meant, this was very important. "What is it?"

"Koda lost the war, he and his people retreated, but one of our people said his great grandchild is being cursed, though this information has not yet been confirmed. Arthur managed to find Aderan and the Queen, right now they are in a safe place and..." Ethan frowned. "Prince Kellan fled to the Celestial Moon pack. He took his people to help stop the monster attacks and the Serafim’s entourage has arrived this morning."
