The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 536: HOLDING GRUDGE
Chapter 536: HOLDING GRUDGE
Cane listened to the report emotionlessly. His expression didn’t change at all, but in truth, this was how he used to be whenever Iris was not around. He would always have this cold and callous air to him, as if he was aloof to everything else in the world.
"What are you going to do now? Koda lost the battle and Alan has reclaimed his position as the future king of the continent with the help of the Golden Light pack and the royal sorcerers." Ethan frowned deeply. He could sense more and more troubles coming their way. "From the Moon Dew pack, Alpha Gallot sent people to help the royals as well when one of the royal sorcerers managed to escape and deliver the message to him. It’s still unknown what the royals offered to him, but in the end, he agreed to help them, which is the main reason for Koda’s defeat."
The Golden Light pack was the biggest pack in this continent, before Cane claimed all the packs in the south, from where almost all the royal guards and warriors hailed. Therefore, their forces couldn’t be taken lightly.
While the Moon Dew pack had various people from this realm, since it was the place where the black market was located, no matter how awful Alpha Gallot was, his connections were not something you could look down on and it would really help the royals in power struggle.
"What about the Celestial Moon pack? Where are they standing?" Cane had not received any letter from Alpha Derick since the last time and now he got news that Kellan had fled to that pack.
It was easy to predict that Kellan would escape to the northern pack, since the Howling Wolf pack and the Celestial Moon packs were his biggest support in the past when he was still the Crown Prince, but because of the route, it was way easier to reach the north than the south of the continent.
"There is still no declaration from Alpha Derick." Ethan then added. "This is the most recent piece of news. Our men used the fastest hawks, so at the very least, all of these happened yesterday."
Cane was deep in thought and Ethan didn’t bother him, knowing his alpha must be thinking of their next step.
Currently, the continent was divided into three parts, where all the packs in the south were completely claimed by Cane while the capital city was under the control of Alan and people from the Golden Light pack and the Moon Dew packs. Koda and his Red Claw pack joined hands with the Winter Moon pack to make his baby great grandson the next king, which would lead to Koda becoming his regent until he came of age.
Of course, the idea came from Cane when he sent him back to the capital city to deal with the royal family after the death of the King.
However, the Celestial Moon pack had not yet declared their stand, as they were still struggling with the waves of monster attack.
With the King’s death, whoever had scattered Asturi Stem in the north area seemed to have stopped their actions immediately and the monster waves should be decreased soon. Alpha Derick failed to catch the culprit who had done it. Moreover, all of that was just Cane and his theory, since the former caught Alan in the black market trying to purchase the Asturi Stem from Lou.
"If there is a message from Koda, tell him to find me himself." Cane only gave that instruction after he kept thinking for a while.
"Do you think Koda will send you a message? Will he ask you to help with the battle against the royals?" Ethan frowned, but then he stopped himself. He knew Cane wouldn’t answer such a question, it was only his habit to ask for more details.
However, to his surprise, Cane actually gave him a brief explanation.
"Koda is under the assumption that our pack is on his side and to have seven packs in the south as his allies, is a great booster for their chance to strike back, the only reason why he might have thought why I didn’t send any help is because he saw it himself that the seven packs have not yet unified and I am still working on it." Cane paused. "Hint to him that I need time to prepare the seven packs to be his back up, but be vague with your words. It will give us time without any interference for some time."
Cane needed to decide whether he would take the Silver River pack and the Diandem pack under his wing or not. His next step would depend on it.
"Oh... okay..." Ethan was flabbergasted to receive such an explanation. He was in awe that Cane actually explained things to him, instead of simply giving him an order to follow like usual. It had always been a pain in the ass to get anything out of his mouth.
Was this because of the Luna’s effect?
However, Cane’s next words snapped the Gamma back to reality.
"You will be part of the wolf warriors during our journey to the Silver River pack, you will take both Oliver and Dean’s roles as well because I will send the two of them ahead of time to check the situation in the Silver River pack," Cane said, which made Ethan widen his eyes.
Wolf warriors were those warriors who would run in their wolf forms during their journey. Usually, there would be two leaders for the two groups of the wolf warriors, as each leader and group would take turns to run in their wolf forms and ride horses alternately.
Initially, it was Oliver and Dean, but with both of them out of the picture and Cane assigning that duty to Ethan directly meant he needed to take both roles and would have to spend the whole journey to the Silver River pack in his wolf form without taking a break, unless they stopped for the night!
"Cane! How can you be so cruel?! What have I done wrong?" Ethan wailed, his voice full of grief, but a glance from Cane was enough to remind him of his sin for taking Iris to the tavern the other night, thus he immediately clamped his mouth shut.
On the other hand, Cane didn’t say anything and turned around to find his mate.
"He is holding a grudge... I thought he forgot about it already," Ethan grumbled.
The Gamma had been trying his hardest to avoid Cane and when he thought the Alpha had never summoned him and there was no punishment that came to knock him onto his butt, he actually lowered his guard and approached him on his own.
But actually, Cane seemed to have done that intentionally. He was messing with his mind by giving him hope that he could actually escape his punishment.
"Should I change my loyalty toward the Luna instead? She looks like a more safer option." Ethan contemplated. Iris was too kind and she would never give him such cruel punishment. More so, it was way easier to please her...
===============================
Iris knocked on the door. She wanted to visit Joel as often as possible, but she couldn’t do that because there were a lot of things she needed to do and take care of.
"Joel. I brought you this." Iris poked her head into the room and found the young warrior staring out of the window.
