The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter
Chapter 381: REDMOND’S BASTARD

Chapter 381: REDMOND’S BASTARD

Cane would claim the baby and that was the narrative that ran in Iris’ mind, driving her crazy when she thought about how the people in the Howling Wolf pack had accepted this woman with open arms, blindly welcoming her, though she was one of Alpha Gallot’s mistresses.

"Impossible?" Iris asked curtly, she clearly didn’t believe it. This was a golden opportunity, a win-win solution for his future problem. If she could see the favorable circumstances, how could Cane not?

Cane pointed at his eyes. "Every descendant of the royal family will have golden eyes when they shift into their beast and in the first month of their lives."

The baby of the royal family would be born with golden eyes that would remain golden until they were one month old and then the color of their eyes would change to their original color. They would start showing the golden eyes again once they were able to shift, in their beast form, their eye color would remain golden.

"I thought you had done your reading about the royal family?" Cane asked, mirth danced in his black eyes when he saw the realization dawn on her and she blushed again, this time out of embarrassment, yet like before, she tried so hard to conceal her emotions, though she was not good at it at this moment. "Did you skip that part?"

Iris forgot. She was too emotional and angry, thus she forgot completely about that fact. She had indeed read the book and it was actually mentioned in the earlier pages.

Iris averted her eyes. She wanted to run away, but it was so clear that Cane wouldn’t let her go and it was way more impossible for her to outpower him.

"I asked you a question, didn’t I?" Cane didn’t let this matter go. "Was the information not included in the book?"

Iris was too embarrassed to even think about lying to his face and because this man kept prodding with the question, her embarrassment turned into agitation.

"So, what?! You will find one way or another to make it work! This is your golden opportunity to get away from the deal between you and the King."

"By raising Redmond’s bastard? No, thanks. I have more important things to do than playing father with his child."

Iris bit her lip when she read what he said, she didn’t want to smile at that comment when until a moment ago, she was a bundle of emotions.

"Don’t bite your lips," Cane said, as he pinched her chin to release her lip from between her teeth. Her lips were still swollen and it was him who must be blamed for that.

"Then, if you don’t take this opportunity, what will you do to get away from the deal between you and the King?" Iris couldn’t help but ask. She thought he wouldn’t let go of such a good chance.

"Why should I get away from the deal with the King?" When I can get rid of him.

Yet, Cane didn’t say the last sentence out loud. It was too quick and far too soon for him to be able to say such a thing. The future was still obscure and his plan was not as flawless as he wanted it to be.

"But..."

"There are a lot of ways to get away from the deal."

"What if the King complicates matters for you?"

Cane twirled her curls between his fingers, as he stared into her blue eyes. It seemed her anger had dissipated significantly. "He will not have time to think about that matter." He would make sure of that. "Even if he did find any reprieve, it will benefit him to have me as his ally rather than his enemy. He will not do anything about it."

"What are you going to do with... her?" Iris felt so petty, as she didn’t even want to mention her name.

"Let people assume she is pregnant with my child, when the time comes, they will learn the truth on their own." Cane’s plan about this matter was; do nothing.

If something would go in the direction he wanted without his intervention, he didn’t need to waste his time and energy to think about it.

"And then, what then?" Iris prodded again. Somehow, she returned to her usual curious self at this moment, though she was a little bit bold now by demanding his explanation. "What will you do in the meantime if people keep thinking she is carrying your child?"

Only if the question was asked by someone else, Cane would keep mum and walk away. It was not in his character to explain things to other people after all.

Yet, he was not sure since when this auburn haired woman became an exception.

"I don’t need to do anything, I have five more packs to take care of. ’She’ has the whole pack to care for her. There is nothing we need to do."

Cane emphasized the word ’she’, as he matched her pettiness, which Iris thought he didn’t realize.

Not wanting to make her feel more embarrassed than this, though he was the one who teased her, Cane changed the topic. "Do you want to go for a walk with me tomorrow to see the members of the Riverside pack?" Cane asked her.

He took her hand and both of them walked toward their bedroom with lighter hearts. The night was warm.

"Okay," Iris replied in a small voice. "Don’t you think the people will hate you because you have killed their alpha?"

If Cane’s plan for changing the topic was to stop her from worrying about that woman, he managed to do that.

"They don’t like their alpha to begin with and right now, they are a little bit anxious about what I am going to do."

"What if the people rebel against you? Or at least, the warriors of this pack."

"Because I hold the golden stamp and they know the consequences of attacking me."

And their conversation continued with Cane explaining things Iris was curious about. If Jace saw this, he would feel choked with frustration, since it took him a lifetime to make the Alpha explain things to him.
