The Alpha: Claiming His Enemy's Daughter -
Chapter 380: CLAIM THE BABY (2)
Chapter 380: CLAIM THE BABY (2)
Cane was infertile and Iris knew that fact since the beginning. He wouldn’t have a baby on his own, though it had never been mentioned again and she had never thought about it too deeply, the King’s demand was always at the back of her mind.
In rare times, Iris wondered what kind of plot Cane would create to get away from it. What if the time was up and he was still without a child? Would he blame her for that? Iris didn’t think Cane would do that to her.
And now, Sofia came and everything was crashing down around her when the realization of what Cane would do sank in, the possibility of him even thinking about it crushed her broken heart.
The pain of what future held for her, the thought of her future self, where she had to keep up with another woman, while the whole pack praised her for giving Cane an heir, how those people would go back to seeing her as none other than Gerald’s daughter, scared her and now her fears had turned into anger and made her so bitter about anything... about everything...
This was an opportunity for Cane to be able to get away from the King’s demand and knowing him, he wouldn’t let this slide. Cane was an opportunist and both of them were well aware of that fact.
So, what was left for Iris? What would she become? She held his deepest secrets, but what could she do with those secrets? It didn’t look like she was capable of helping him with anything aside from calming the lycan.
People would see her as a failure because she couldn’t give the Alpha a child and all the fingers would be pointed at her. There was no way it would cross their minds the Alpha was the one with the problem and the truth would forever be buried.
If they were to learn about that fact or that secret came to light, it would ruin a lot of things, more so, it would do more harm than good.
Iris felt so worthless and dirty. She was so angry with herself and the situation. She had never felt such strong emotions before and she dreaded what the future held for her.
Cane would raise the child as his own, since he needed to pass down his title someday and this child was his only likely chance. This child would probably be the ’only child’ for Cane and that woman would take everything Iris wished to have.
Her desire to belong to someone, to a pack, to feel like she was part of them, like a family... it would never happen.
Iris was frustrated. She had been shunned away by the people around her since she was a child and having a brother like Mason and a father like Gerald only made her desire for the connection and affection she had never received.
This was the reason why Iris clung to Cane desperately, ignoring Redmond reprimanding her how she would do everything to please her mate, because she felt the affection and the connection from the mate bond, something she had longed for so long.
And now, with Sofia around, things wouldn’t be the same between her and Cane anymore. Call her selfish, but she liked it when those women looked at her with envy because she was the only woman in Cane’s life.
In the past, Iris was sure Cane wouldn’t take a mistress because of the complicated situation with his condition, but she was not sure anymore.
Sofia could become the Luna of the pack because she had a child with Cane, just like how her father took her mother as his luna because he was infatuated with her beauty.
Then what about her?
"What now?! What will you do now?! What should I do?!" Iris literally screamed agitatedly at Cane, something she had never done before.
Because the Alpha wanted to know what was in her mind and he wouldn’t let her go before he learned about it, Iris blurted out everything, so he would know what bothered and scared her.
Her words were jumbled up, she kept repeating the same thing over and over, because she was overwhelmed with her emotions.
However, Cane could get the gist of it and was able to get a grip of what was the cause of her anger. Somehow, he felt relieved when she screamed at him and tried to communicate her feelings again. He really didn’t like it when she ignored him.
"You don’t need to do anything," Cane finally replied, after Iris stopped screaming at him, but his answer only aggravated her.
That was it? After she almost lost her breath explaining her fears, that single sentence was all she got?! Iris swatted his hands and pushed him away.
She probably would regret the way she treated Cane right now when she came to her senses, but something snapped inside of her after what Alpha Gill had done, she felt a lot of anger inside of her and she couldn’t control it.
After Iris pushed Cane away from her, she stood up and was about to walk away when the Alpha immediately stood up as well and grabbed her wrist to make her stay.
"Let me go!" Iris snarled at him, glaring angrily at Cane, but the Alpha simply nudged the back of his hand toward her mouth, which left her confused.
"If you are going to bite me again, do it."
Iris blushed. Ugh! "I am not going to do that!"
"Then let’s talk calmly." Cane stretched out his hand, as he pinched her chin to make her stop biting her lip. "And don’t bite yourself." His voice was so soft, only if Iris could hear him, she would know how gentle he was being with her right now. People around him wouldn’t know he still had this side to him after what he had gone through.
"You will claim the baby."
"I will not." Cane shook his head. "It’s impossible after all."
