Chapter 367: ANOTHER SIDE OF IRIS
Chapter 367: ANOTHER SIDE OF IRIS
Cane felt this uncomfortable feeling when he was talking to Alpha James from the Bloody Wolf pack. The other three alphas had arrived and they only needed to wait for Alpha Andrian from the Diandem pack.
However, Cane couldn’t concentrate on their conversation, though there was nothing important about it, since Alpha James only talked about how many women he had bedded during his journey here.
Most of the time, Cane couldn’t understand why these nasty people could become the leaders of a lot of people when they acted as nothing more than animals. They didn’t even have a shred of sense of leadership whatsoever, nor the compassion that was needed.
As the uncomfortable feeling wormed into his heart grew more unsettling, Cane cut short his conversation and went away to find Iris only to hear something had happened to her.
And right now, the woman before his eyes was completely different from the timid woman he had known for more than half a year. She looked feral. Blood stained her hand that was holding the white dagger he had given her. More blood was on her face and the front of her dress.
Her beautiful blue eyes were dim, filled with murderous intention, as she glared at Cane with such coldness he didn’t think she was capable of mustering.
Cane was stunned for a moment, but then he approached her slowly. "Iris?" He called her name, but there was no reaction whatsoever from her, instead her grip on the dagger in her hand tightened when she saw Cane come closer.
Cane stopped in his tracks, as he could see how Iris turned defensive when he tried to approach her. "What happened to her?" He turned his head to look at Redmond, who looked mortified.
"Alpha Gill..." Redmond felt uncomfortable explaining the situation, because he didn’t want to picture Iris in such a situation. He didn’t want to explain to Cane that his mate had been touched by someone else. He was not sure how Cane would react, there was a chance the Alpha would discard his luna.
Men could have as many women as they wanted, but once a woman was touched without her man’s permission, they were deemed to be punished no matter what the situation they were in.
That was how Redmond perceived this situation as, since that was the mentality and way of thinking he grew up with, more so, that was how Alpha Gerald treated the women around him. Also one of the reasons why he killed his mate when he found out prince Kellan slept with her.
However, a single dagger look from Cane was enough to make him blurt out the truth; what he had seen when he entered the room.
Iris looked scary at this moment, but this alpha was even scarier... Redmond almost thought he was facing the lycan instead.
"When I entered the room, I saw Iris stabbing Alpha Gill and she was..." Redmond grimaced when he glanced at Iris. She had her auburn hair covering her naked upper body, while her dress crumpled around her waist, as she was still sitting down in the same position with a dagger in her hand. "... she was like that, she..." Redmond trailed off.
He didn’t need to explain further about what happened, because someone like Cane would be able to put two and two together easily. It didn’t take a genius to know what Iris had gone through.
"Alpha... I am sure she is innocent in this case, it is..." Redmond tried to defend Iris, but Cane cut him off.
"Did he die?"
Redmond blinked his eyes when he heard the question. "Pardon?" But, a second later he realized who he meant by ’he’. "No. Alpha Gill is still alive, I secured him in the next room, he wouldn’t be able to do anything. His condition..." Redmond didn’t know how to explain how Alpha Gill was right now in words. ".... His condition is a little bit weird."
"Hm." Cane couldn’t care less about Alpha Gill’s condition, he could die for all he cared, but if he had not yet died, he would make sure he would.
Right now, his focus was on his mate.
On the other hand, Jace was shocked to see Iris right now, she looked... terrifying! Was this the same woman? Once he overcame his shock, he immediately averted his gaze because even though he couldn’t see her naked body, since her long hair covered her nudity, in his mind, she wouldn’t appreciate it if he stared at her in such a vulnerable situation.
Jace did the same thing as when he caught Iris and Cane inside the library.
Meanwhile, Cane started to approach his mate, but Jace held his arm back. "Cane, I don’t think it is a good idea for you to go closer to her."
Yet, Cane shook his hand away, not seeming to heed his beta’s warning, which left Jace speechless, while Redmond wanted to know what Cane would do to make Iris snap back to reality, or... what he would do to her.
Cane approached Iris calmly. He didn’t even seem on alert when Iris raised the dagger, pointing it at him. From the looks of it, Iris was in a complete defensive state, she didn’t even recognize Cane.
Earlier, Redmond was almost stabbed by her if it was not for his good reflexes when he dragged Alpha Gill away from her.
Redmond was not sure what Cane’s plan was, but he didn’t think killing the Alpha of the Riverside pack would be in line with his plan. The death of Alpha Gill might even jeopardize it. Moreover, Iris had gotten herself involved too deep with Cane, thus if the Alpha went down, Iris would be dragged down with him as well.
"Iris," Cane called her name again, but he didn’t back away when Iris lowered her body, ready to pounce on him. In a way, he had taught her how to use her dagger when they spent their time inside the forest.
But, Cane didn’t even flinch when he got on the bed and made it dip slightly from his weight, which put Iris on high alert and she started to grit her teeth. Cane could hear the way she grinded her molars.
And when Cane didn’t back down, Iris swung her arm in a vertical motion to stab him in his shoulder.
There was enough time for Cane to dodge the attack, but he didn’t do it, instead, he waited for her to react and took the blow when he was close enough to her. He gritted his teeth when the dagger pierced into his flesh and nestled in his shoulder.
Blood oozed out from the wound, it splashed on Iris’ face as well, adding more blood to her hands.
However, when Iris was about to pull the dagger out, Cane used his right hand to hold hers firmly, so the dagger couldn’t be pulled out. The blade sunk deeper into his flesh and the pain would be unimaginable, especially when Iris tried to move it, yet Cane was unfazed in the face of pain.
He could take out the dagger by force, but there was a possibility Iris would get hurt. This was the safest way for her.
