Chapter 273: REDMOND’S IMAGINATION WAS SO WILD

Because of the monster attack during the new year party, many people died and most of them left their children behind.

While some of the children were lucky enough to have their other relatives to take care of them, some of them were not that lucky, as they had no one to turn to.

Capital city was a large city, where many people came and went and most of the citizens were shifters or merchants, while the rest was a mix of many other kinds.

With the fact the shifters were the original citizens of this capital city, most of the shifter children had their extended families to take care of them, but the merchants did not, therefore when they died, their children had no one to rely on.

At that, Prince Kellan stepped up and used funds from his own treasure to build another building for the orphaned children and now its construction was underway. He would be in the city often these few days.

As for Cane, there was no reason for him to turn down the offer. "It’s nice of you to help those children," Cane said. He kept holding Iris’ hand under the table, while she stayed out of the conversation between him and Prince Kellan.

"It’s something trivial. It’s an obligation for a sovereign to help their people. My father is a little bit strange to want to cover up the whole thing." He heard all about how his father had killed the guards that witnessed the first attack.

On the other hand, Cane didn’t have any objection to his statement. It could be said he was the most decent person in the royal family.

Cane glanced at Iris, who was exceptionally quiet and looked very anxious, as she kept her head low. Something was amiss with the way she behaved.

Not long after that, their food arrived and they enjoyed their lunch with a light conversation, where mostly, Prince Kellan told Cane about what was going on in the city and what the citizen’s opinion about a certain thing was.

Basically, the Prince guided the Alpha in understanding more and learning about what the citizens were usually like, and gave him a few suggestions on his task from the King.

Meanwhile, Cane listened carefully, asked a few things and most of the time, said nothing. He was not a talkative person and was an observer, thus he processed every bit of information and tried to deduct the necessary steps that he had to take later.

He had his own plan that he didn’t share.

Even if his father trusted this prince and supported him thoroughly, Cane needed time to build his trust in Prince Kellan. He wouldn’t follow in his father’s steps blindly.

In the middle of the conversation, Iris put down her spoon and tugged on Cane’s robe to get his attention. "I want to go to the bathroom," she said in a whisper.

"Ask Redmond to go with you."

Iris nodded and then stood up to walk out of the room, while Prince Kellan followed her with his eyes and this didn’t go unnoticed by Cane.

Prince Kellan realized this and played it off. "She is very quiet. She didn’t change at all." He smiled at Cane, acting nonchalant.

People would say that when they met Iris for the first time, but when you got closer to her, you would know how she could be a chatterbox. About that, Cane knew well enough.

But, he said nothing and made Prince Kellan assume he silently agreed with his statement.

Meanwhile, when Iris walked out of the room, Redmond stopped bickering with Ethan and followed her. The two of them had started bickering as soon as Cane and Iris entered the room, thus the other warriors could sigh in relief when the peace returned and they didn’t need to nurse a headache over hearing them. They argued solely for the sake of arguing.

"Where is the bathroom?" Iris asked, her voice was so small and her face was exceptionally pale.

"Follow me," Redmond said. He glanced at Iris and tapped on her shoulder. "Are you okay? Why are you so pale? You don’t like the food?"

Iris just waved her hand and said nothing. Redmond didn’t make a fuss, thinking she was being her usual self, since she often looked pale in this kind of weather.

Once inside the bathroom, Iris couldn’t hold it back any longer, as she vomited her guts out. She regurgitated all the food she had eaten and couldn’t stop until she felt her stomach hurt and her throat was burning, while outside of the door, Redmond kept knocking, asking whether she was alright, because he could hear her.

However, Iris was too occupied in her own pain, as she bent her body over and tried to keep her hair from getting dirty. She didn’t even notice when Redmond tried to tear down the door.

"Hey! Open this damn door!" Redmond kicked the door and he managed to break the lock on his third attempt and saw Iris in her wretched condition. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Iris waved her hand, in an attempt to tell him to go away because she didn’t want him to see her like this. Still, Redmond approached her and knelt down beside her, as he gathered her hair and helped to massage her shoulders and neck.

"Did you eat something wrong? Or..." his voice trailed off. "Are you pregnant?"

Fortunately, Iris didn’t see him, thus she couldn’t read what he had said, because there was no way she could be pregnant right now with Cane’s condition.

However, Redmond’s imagination was so wild. He decided to clarify this with Cane.
