Chapter 272: DON’T YOU REMEMBER
The first thing that Iris noticed when they arrived at this quiet restaurant was the extravagant carriage in the color of dark purple in front of it. This place was not usually almost empty like this, but it was intentionally cleared because there was an important figure inside, as you could see a few royal warriors guarding this building.
Only those Princes, Princesses and all the royal family, were allowed to take the royal warriors.
Cane dismounted the horse and helped Iris to get down too, as one of the royal warriors approached them and took the horse away.
"We will eat with Prince Kellan," Cane informed Iris.
Hearing that name, she stiffened. A rush of uneasiness washed over her, she felt like she wanted to flee from this place, but instead, she let Cane pull her into the building.
Iris did not know why she felt like this. She was almost sure she had never had any problem with Prince Kellan before. She barely remembered him, but why was the thought of him so dreadful?
On the other hand, Cane glanced at Iris, he saw how sluggish she was. She lowered her head and clutched her dress tightly, something that she always did when she felt uncomfortable.
However, Cane couldn’t figure out the reason for it. She was fine just a moment ago.
A warrior walked them to the second floor and opened the first door on the left, letting them walk inside, while Ethan and Redmon stood on guard with the other royal warriors outside.
This room was not too big and there was only one table with four chairs in the middle of the room. The wall was white with a lot of pictures hanging on it. The air was filled with a citrus fragrance when they stepped in.
Prince Kellan was sitting on his wheelchair, staring out through a huge window; the sky was clear and the winter sun was dim.
The Prince turned his head when Cane and Iris approached the table. His smile was so warm, like a morning sun, as his eyes lit up gently.
"It’s a pleasure to meet you both," Prince Kellan said in his pleasant voice. He looked exceptionally gorgeous in this dark purple robe. No wonder people liked him, because he had this charm to him that could make people comfortable to be close to him.
However, Iris still felt uneasy at the sight of Prince Kellan.
Cane took her to sit next to him, facing the Prince. He then got engaged in a conversation with the Prince. But Iris kept staring at her fingers, fiddling with her dress.
"The pleasure is mine," Cane replied.
They exchanged a few pleasantries before they ordered food for their lunch. A waitress came into the room and she looked smitten by the two men there. She knew about Prince Kellan, so she kept glancing curiously at Cane.
Only when she noticed Iris with her auburn hair, did she get a clue about Cane’s identity. So, he was the Alpha of the Howling Wolf pack. People in the city had been talking about the two of them.
Cane tapped on Iris’ shoulder to get her attention. "What do you want to eat?" He asked, as he gave the menu to her.
However, Iris didn’t even look at the menu at all before she spoke softly. "Same as what you want."
Cane didn’t prod her and gave back the menu, as he ordered the same thing for both of them, while Prince Kellan ordered a few dishes.
"Luna Iris, isn’t it?" Prince Kellan tried to rope Iris into the conversation and this made her lift her head, as Cane let her know that the Prince was talking to her. "The last time we met in the main hall, I didn’t have a chance to greet you. My apologies for my rudeness," Prince Kellan said politely.
"It is supposed to be me who needs to apologize for not greeting you at that time." Iris’ voice sounded normal, but she couldn’t stop fiddling with her fingers, feeling uncomfortable.
She felt so silly to have this kind of feeling when Prince Kellan had been nothing but respectful toward her.
"I remember I went to the Blue Moon pack for the first time when you were only six years old. I saw you from afar because your hair is very pretty." Prince Kellan reminisced about that moment.
Iris didn’t say anything, she didn’t remember any of that. She only knew the Prince often visited the Blue Moon pack, but her memory was fuzzy during that time. She couldn’t tell whether they had met when he visited or not, or what he was doing in the Blue Moon pack.
"Did you remember when I comforted you when you cried because Alpha Gerald didn’t allow you to play with that stable boy?" Prince Kellan looked at her expression closely, waiting for her reaction when he mentioned that moment.
But, Iris only remembered the stable boy that her father had killed because she played with him, yet she didn’t remember the part where Prince Kellan came to comfort her.
That was the saddest moment that she wanted to forget about because she lost the only person she could call as a friend.
"I am sorry, Prince Kellan, I don’t remember that moment." Iris shook her head. She wanted to end this conversation with him, because the way he looked at her made it hard for her to even breathe.
"You don’t remember?" Prince Kellan emphasized this question and Iris shook her head again. "It’s okay, you were only eight years at that time and it had been a long time ago, it’s normal for you to forget." There was this warm smile that tugged on his lips. He looked so kind and nice.
Iris said nothing and Cane noticed how uncomfortable his mate was with this conversation.
"I heard you built a new orphanage building again after the two monster attacks during the new year party," Cane stated swiftly, as he grabbed Iris’ hand under the table, noticing how tightly she clutched her dress.
Prince Kellan sighed. "Many parents died during the attack, leaving so many homeless children behind."
