Iris didn’t return to the second floor, where Cane and Kellan were still having a discussion. She didn’t see the point for her to return there, after all the conversation didn’t involve her at all. It didn’t make any difference whether she was there or not.

Instead, she went to the first floor, where she sat down next to a window and leaned her head against the wall, staring at the city out there. There were not many people outside at this hour, as they preferred to hide from the cold weather inside the comfort of their houses.

Redmond frowned when he saw her like this, he waved his hand in front of her face to get her attention. "Don’t you want to see a healer and check your condition?"

"I am fine." Iris stretched out her hand to take her tea cup to drink from it.

"You don’t know, maybe you are pregnant," Redmond blurted it out and Iris almost choked on her tea when she read what he said.

"I am not!" Iris hissed. She put down her tea cup, as her face turned so red. How could he say something so vulgar like that casually to her? More so, Cane would question her loyalty if he too thought she was pregnant. "Don’t talk nonsense." She couldn’t tell him that Cane was sterile, nor did Redmond know the last time the two of them had been intimate was when she was in heat.

Redmond’s frown deepened when he heard that, because he thought Iris was in denial. "It is normal, you know, for you to be pregnant right now. You have been marked and mated for more than half a year now and from what I see, he treats you well. Your bed activities must not be so bad either."

"Be quiet!" Iris’ face was as red as her hair right now and she looked around, afraid someone would hear the conversation.

Yet, Redmond rolled his eyes dramatically at her little annoyed face. "Or, maybe you need to seduce him."

"Redmond!" Iris really wanted to cry at this point, because she couldn’t make him stop spouting nonsense, but the warrior seemed to enjoy his time, seeing how embarrassed she was.

"It is normal to seduce your mate, you need to get pregnant and give birth to an heir, before he does it with his future mistress." In Redmond’s mind, it was only a matter of time before Cane would choose a mistress, because that was the norm, something ordinary for someone with high status to do.

And if that happened, Iris’ position would be in danger. It couldn’t be said that she had been accepted by all the people in the Howling Wolf pack and now that the Blue Moon pack was too under Cane’s control, Iris had to gain a little bit of power by conceiving an heir first for the Alpha.

Redmond was only looking out for her.

However, that was not in Iris’ mind. She grimaced when she heard that explanation. "Forget about that. I don’t want to talk about this topic anymore."

Iris turned her head toward the window, refused to read what Redmond said and with her condition, if she didn’t look at the warrior, it would be useless regardless of what he said, after all, she couldn’t hear.

"Hey, you need to think about this seriously." Redmond waved his hand in front of Iris’ face to get her attention, so they could get back into the discussion.

He also shook her hand on the table, but Iris retracted her hand and closed her eyes, stubbornly refusing to continue the conversation.

Redmond scoffed when he saw how reckless Iris was with her own position, thinking Cane would favor her forever even if she didn’t give birth to his heir. Therefore, he decided to clarify this with the Alpha later, so he could take her to see a healer, or at least the healer could give her something to help her get pregnant.

Even after an hour passed, Iris still stubbornly had her eyes closed. He knew she wasn’t sleeping, but he couldn’t do anything, nor could he shake her body to wake her up. They were in public, people would gossip about her if he touched her recklessly. It was not that Redmond would do it in private.

After another half an hour passed, Cane finally came down with Ethan and spotted his mate, sitting near the window at the corner with Redmond.

The Alpha approached Iris and caressed her cheek to wake her up, for which Iris immediately opened her eyes, startled, but then relaxed when she saw it was just Cane who touched her.

"Sleepy?" Cane asked.

"No." Iris shook her head. "I just closed my eyes."

Cane nodded and took her hand. "Let’s go."

Iris stood up, but then she halted when she saw four warriors helping Prince Kellan to get down from the second floor, they carried him along with his wheelchair down the stairs.

The Prince smiled apologetically at them, feeling it was not a pretty sight to see, as if his condition was something that he needed to feel apologetic for.

Cane nodded politely, but he could feel how tense Iris was to see the Prince and he couldn’t figure out the reason behind it. He didn’t dig too deep, but from a brief conversation he had with him, he learned that Prince Kellan met with little Iris a few times before the tragedy befell on him.

However, Iris seemed not to remember any of it.

"Will you return to the palace?" Prince Kellan asked, as a warrior pushed his wheelchair toward Cane and the others.

"No. I need to go somewhere," Cane replied.

"Hm." Prince Kellan nodded in understanding. "Then, I hope you won’t forget about our conversation and wish your mate will consider it."

"I will talk with her," Cane replied, he glanced at Iris, but she wasn’t following the conversation, she was half hiding behind the Alpha right now.

"Then, I will take my leave. Take care." Prince Kellan tilted his head and Cane squeezed Iris’ hand to get her attention, so she could see what the Prince wanted to say. "I will see you soon."
