Chapter 434: Returning to the Immortal World--Isn’t That Just Walking into a Trap?
Outside the Xue residence, the black wooden carriage was already waiting.
After Ye Siheng and Nanli boarded, Ye Siheng said, "To the Marquis’s residence."
Nanli raised an eyebrow, noticing that although he was not in the capital, he was still well-informed about her situation. She casually asked, "How was your trip to Qi Nation?"
"Fairly smooth. The necessary items were delivered," Ye Siheng replied. "Now it’s up to Qi Xuan to make use of them and see if it succeeds."
Nanli nodded slightly. If Qi Nation was still in turmoil, it likely wouldn’t pose an immediate threat to Mu Nation.
She touched the golden hairpin and the spiritual energy talismans, feeling the flow of spiritual energy within them.
"To repair my Spirit Pearl, aside from accumulating merit, there’s another method--infusing it with spiritual energy. Since there are so few places with spiritual energy in the Human World, I had ruled out this method before. However, by a stroke of luck, I managed to gather some spiritual energy today," Nanli said, her eyes shining.
Ye Siheng’s voice was grave, "Is this amount of spiritual energy sufficient?"
After all, they were just mortals. If Immortal World figures were to calculate this debt, it would be hard to handle. The best course of action was for A’Li to repair the Spirit Pearl as soon as possible.
As for him...
He didn’t want to be a hindrance.
"I need time to test if this amount of spiritual energy is enough," Nanli said, her brow slightly furrowed. "Xue Shengnan said some strange things before she died--one was that I should seek revenge for her, and the other was that she never expected us to meet in the mortal world. Earlier, the Hairpin Elf also hinted that I might be a reincarnation from Immortal World because my body couldn’t bear the Spirit Pearl’s power, so it was excluded from me and instead held in my hand."
Reflecting on this, she wondered why both she and Xue Shengnan--no, Yan Zhen from her past life--had reincarnated. It seemed that both had unresolved grudges, but for some reason, they had both been reincarnated.
Ye Siheng looked at her intently.
The light of the night pearl in the carriage illuminated her increasingly delicate and beautiful face.
"So, after this life, you might have to return to Immortal World?" he asked, feeling a pang of sadness. He had hoped to spend all their lives together, but if she sought immortality and he would be reborn, what would become of them?
Nanli spoke seriously, "I don’t know the situation in Immortal World. Moreover, with Immortal Sect closed off, reincarnated beings cannot directly return to their original forms. Xue Shengnan--who seemed to be Yan Zhen in Immortal World--had her father, the Lord of Penglai Island, who could open the Immortal Sect. His cultivation must be significant. Since I have offended him, wouldn’t returning to Immortal World be like walking into a trap?"
"The previous gentleman was likely from Immortal World, but unfortunately, he didn’t reveal much. If I could see him again, I might learn more about Immortal World’s situation," Nanli said.
Ye Siheng shrugged, "Given how much time has passed, he might have forgotten his promises."
Nanli had an inexplicable trust in that person. "He shouldn’t break his word. Perhaps he encountered some difficulties."
"Who knows?" Ye Siheng said with a shrug.
As they spoke, the carriage arrived at the Mansion of Marquis Anyang.
Nanli hurriedly got out, and Ye Siheng frowned slightly, "Take it slow."
At the gate, Qingyang was waiting.
Upon seeing Ye Siheng, Qingyang’s face lit up with joy. "Greetings, Your Highness!"
After some time apart, he felt that Ye Siheng seemed even more formidable.
Ye Siheng nodded. "Where is it?"
"Here," Qingyang handed over a gilded box.
Curious, Nanli glanced at it, and Ye Siheng explained, "It’s a gift for your nephew."
"You just returned, and yet you had prepared the gift already?"
"I arranged it before leaving the capital. His birth coincided with my return, a sign of fate."
Nanli smiled, "He’s my nephew and you’re my husband, so he must call you ’uncle’. It’s indeed a match of fate."
They entered the residence and proceeded to Chu Ye’s courtyard.
By now, it was getting late, and the Chu family had dispersed. However, hearing that the sixth sister and the Ninth Prince had arrived, Chu Ye hurried out to greet them.
As family, no formalities were needed, but when Chu Ye saw Nanli, he carefully inspected her for injuries.
"A’Li, are you alright?" Chu Ye’s brow was deeply furrowed. "What was that commotion over the Xue residence?"
His first instinct was to check the Xue residence, but he had to restrain himself and stay with his wife and child as Nanli had advised.
"I’m fine," Nanli shook her head gently. "That was Immortal Sect trying to bring Xue Shengnan back. But don’t worry, her soul and spirit have already been extinguished. You and Big Sister can rest easy now."
Chu Ye was bewildered.
"Immortal World? Bringing her back?"
Ye Siheng interjected, "She was from Immortal World and came to the mortal realm to undergo tribulation."
Chu Ye’s eyes widened. This was beyond his comprehension. He didn’t think about anything else but grew even more worried. "Does she have backing in Immortal World? They’ll definitely seek revenge on you. It’s my fault for causing you such trouble!"
He had felt the oppressive force of Immortal Sect from the roof, even from a distance.
Nanli, with a calm expression, reassured him, "Don’t blame yourself. It was my grudge with her that led to this situation."
Seeing Chu Ye’s anxiety, she reassured him further, explaining that Immortal Sect had strict rules against harming mortals. Even if someone from Immortal World defied the rules and came after her, she had ways to deal with it now.
Chu Ye remained troubled, still trying to speak, but Ye Siheng changed the subject, "Has the child fallen asleep?"
As he spoke, the sound of a baby crying came from the inner room.
Chu Ye signaled for the nurse to bring the child out so as not to disturb Xiao Wanyi’s rest.
The baby, who had been crying loudly, quieted down as soon as the nurse held him. He was white and chubby, with his eyes still barely open and a few tears at the corners.
Nanli leaned closer and asked, "Have you chosen a name for him?"
She hadn’t been around to know what happened after the birth.
Chu Ye’s face brightened as he mentioned his son, "His grandmother named him Zhongwei."
Ye Siheng’s eyes softened as he handed over the box. "Congratulations on his birth."
By the end of the day, Chu Ye had received numerous gifts for his son, but the prince’s gift was different. As he opened it, he found not golden treasures, but a string of wooden beads.
