Chapter 435: So, Should We Have a Child Too?
Chu Ye’s face brightened with a smile. Thankfully, it wasn’t gemstones or gold; his eyes had already suffered enough today. The wooden beads didn’t look particularly expensive, which would make it easier for him to return the favor when the Ninth Prince and Sixth Sister’s child was born. He secretly thought the Ninth Prince was truly considerate.
However, Nanli glanced at the beads and her face showed amazement. "Ah, these are ancient peach wood beads, a rare find! If sold, even ten thousand taels would be considered cheap."
"It’s a gift for your nephew, so the price doesn’t matter," Ye Siheng said.
"Indeed," Nanli smiled and nodded.
Chu Ye almost fainted. Ten thousand taels?! That was even more expensive than what his second brother had given! It wasn’t just the cost; ancient peach wood was extremely rare. How could he find something so precious to return the gift?
He said, "Your Highness, this ancient peach wood bracelet is too precious. It’s better to keep it for your future child. My second brother’s Longevity Lock, gold and silver bracelets, are already more than enough."
Ye Siheng remained calm, saying, "There’s no need. Our child will not require such things."
Chu Ye’s mouth twitched. Nanli helplessly said, "Big Brother, it’s a matter of fate between Zhongwei and the prince, so this gift has no other meaning."
Chu Ye waved his hand, "I understand. The prince is right. Your child will surely inherit your talents and skills."
Nanli was about to modestly decline but Ye Siheng nodded seriously. "What Big Brother said is true."
If the child didn’t inherit A’Li’s abilities, Ye Siheng would teach him martial arts. After all, he was a boy and didn’t need to be overly coddled.
As it was getting late, they checked on the baby and then returned to Chilling Garden. The scarecrow they had left behind was still sitting in the hall.
Rainbow and the others were startled to see the two princesses. Nanli reassured them, removing the talismans from the scarecrow, making the other "self" disappear.
She murmured, "It can hold up for a while, but the expression and movements need further refinement."
Seeing her deep in thought, Ye Siheng didn’t disturb her and had some simple food prepared. When the steaming bowls of noodles were served, Nanli had finished her thoughts and looked enlightened.
She wanted to go draw symbols for testing, but Ye Siheng pulled her over and insisted, "After you’ve had enough to eat, take a bath and get some rest. You’ve been working hard today; focus on resting, and we’ll deal with other matters tomorrow."
Nanli had to agree. Rainbow remarked, "Only the prince can manage to control the princess. If she was left to her own devices, she would immediately focus on drawing symbols or refining medicine, sometimes even neglecting meals."
Ye Siheng’s expression darkened as he looked at Nanli. She quickly said, "Don’t scold me. I’ll make sure to eat properly from now on, and won’t delay."
"I wouldn’t scold you," Ye Siheng sighed. "I’m just worried about you overworking yourself."
Despite his concern, he couldn’t see any sign of fatigue in Nanli. Her appearance had become more refined and beautiful over the past two years.
Nanli finished her meal and said excitedly, "I’m not that delicate. My body can handle it."
Ye Siheng noticed the change in her aura and bones. "Have you found new opportunities?"
Nanli nodded and told him about the collection of ancient books she had discovered in the secret chamber.
Ye Siheng was astonished. "So you’re currently focusing on body training and refining energy?"
"Yes," Nanli said. "But the spiritual energy in the Human World is too sparse, so my progress isn’t fast."
Ye Siheng looked at her with a bit of regret. "So, are you planning to leave me behind or not take me with you?"
Nanli felt wronged. "I indeed couldn’t resist starting on body training and refining energy myself, but I never intended to leave you behind."
Ye Siheng turned to the side, losing his appetite. "While you were training, did you ever consider whether I could keep up with you? A’Li, you’ve never thought about our future!"
Rainbow and the others were startled. The prince rarely spoke to the princess like this.
Nanli, however, wasn’t upset. Instead, she looked at Ye Siheng and said, "What are you talking about? I know you well enough. How could you not keep up with me? I’ve already organized some ancient books suitable for you. If you’re eager, you can start reading them tonight."
Ye Siheng was momentarily stunned, then his expression softened quickly, and he smiled warmly. "I knew A’Li had me in mind."
Nanli rolled her eyes and said, "So, can you eat your noodles now?"
"Sure," Ye Siheng cheerfully picked up his chopsticks and happily finished the bowl of noodles.
After bathing and washing up, Nanli obediently rested for the night. Ye Siheng, who was good at giving orders but not following them himself, spent two hours in the study reading ancient books before returning to the room around midnight.
Nanli, familiar with his presence, didn’t open her eyes. He was still slightly cold and intended to warm up by snuggling closer. To his surprise, she turned over and hugged him.
He frowned. "I’m cold."
Sleepily, she murmured, "It’s fine, it’s been a while since I held you, let me hold you..."
Ye Siheng’s heart softened. He had missed her deeply while he was away. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. "A’Li, your brother’s child is really adorable."
"Hmm..."
"So, should we have a child too?"
"Hmm..."
Ye Siheng was even more delighted, but just as he was about to continue, he heard her steady breathing.
"...."
She had fallen asleep again. Ye Siheng sighed. There was no need to rush. Perhaps she wanted to wait until her brothers were married and had children before considering it.
He could wait!
The next morning, Nanli woke up early as usual to exercise. When she returned, she found Ye Siheng had already left. Rainbow informed her that he had gone to the palace.
Nanli wasn’t surprised; Ye Siheng had just returned to the capital and needed to report to the palace.
At the palace, with no court session scheduled, Emperor Muwu had been waiting in the side hall early in the day. Seeing Ye Siheng arrive, he was thrilled. "Ninth Brother! You’re finally back!"
Ye Siheng saluted and then put on a stern expression. "If I hadn’t come back, A’Li would have been bullied to death."
Emperor Muwu’s face changed in shock. "What are you saying? Who could bully your wife?"
Ye Siheng sat down and snorted. "Then why hasn’t Lord Chen been executed for bribery and misconduct?"
Emperor Muwu’s forehead twitched, and he sighed. "He has been dismissed. Ah, please make an exception this time. Vice Consort Chen is pregnant now. If you execute her father, she won’t be able to carry this child properly."
