Supreme Electromagnetic Tyrant
Chapter 98 - 66: Long-Distance Assassination

Chapter 98: Chapter 66: Long-Distance Assassination

Most people in the Myriad Beast Garden Hunting Group’s camp were already asleep.

Only two mutants on night duty were awake, each sitting in a dim corner on alert, occasionally getting up to check on the war pets outside the camp.

There were three Red-eyed Mountain Sculptures in the trees and a group of Thousand-peak Retrievers on the ground, one with night vision, one with keen smell, and the powerful-hearing Wind-controlling Eagle. With these three kinds of war pets on alert together, they were not at all worried about enemies sneaking into the camp, so they were all quite relaxed.

Suddenly, thunder rumbled in the sky.

The two mutants had just looked up when three bolts of lightning instantly struck the camp, creating Explosive sounds.

Bang! Bang! Pop!

Three noises overlapped, followed by a scream.

The entire camp immediately erupted as if a pot had boiled over.

Everyone was startled awake and ran out of their tents, the war pets outside the camp let out uneasy howls, the hawks and blood ravens took flight, screeching frantically in the sky.

Pei Hong had just fallen asleep shortly before and had opened his eyes at the attack, but it was too late to react.

He drew his longsword and leaped up, but he couldn’t find the enemy.

Only Liu Yusu’s tent had been attacked.

Pei Hong immediately had a bad feeling. Liu Yusu’s tent was in shambles, yet she didn’t get up.

He went forward and lifted the torn and collapsed tent fabric, immediately seeing Liu Yusu’s corpse, a silver-white arrow brimming with electrical light lodged in her left eye, piercing through her brain and pinning her to the ground; she was already thoroughly dead.

"Leader!"

"What happened?"

The members of the hunting group exclaimed in shock, most of them hadn’t seen the attack happen.

Pei Hong also couldn’t believe it.

Although most of a Master’s strength lies in their war pets, and their own physical qualities and strength are mediocre, Liu Yusu didn’t have any ability to enhance her physique from her war pets. But, didn’t Liu Yusu have a White Jade Parrot?

When its owner is attacked, the White Jade Parrot would automatically deploy a "White Jade Shield" to withstand physical and energy damage, its defensive power comparable to alloy armor.

Liu Yusu’s White Jade Parrot was always by her side, even when she slept; how could it not react?

Pei Hong continued searching the tent and next to Liu Yusu’s body found a lump of charred, bloodied flesh, and two arrows stuck in the ground surrounded by blood-stained feathers.

"The White Jade Parrot is also dead."

Pei Hong’s pupils shrank, and after a closer inspection, he roughly guessed what had happened.

There were a total of three arrows shot. The first two targeted the White Jade Parrot, somehow piercing through the White Jade Shield and killing it first.

Then, the third arrow struck Liu Yusu, who had lost her protection, with a deadly shot.

It all happened in an instant; Liu Yusu was probably just awakened and didn’t understand what was happening before she was killed by an arrow to the head.

Pei Hong picked up an arrow; it was light and hard, still emitting slight electric currents, causing his arm to go numb.

"Capacitor Arrow..."

He recognized this type of special arrow, having seen it on the same day.

"That Ranger!"

Pei Hong felt a chill in his heart, as well as some after-shocks, and immediately turned and asked, "Did any of you see from which direction the arrow came?" He had only felt the danger from inside the tent but didn’t know where the arrow had come from.

"Over there." One of the mutants on duty pointed towards the cliff.

Crack!

Pei Hong transformed into lightning and vanished from the spot.

The next second, his figure appeared a hundred meters away, then again transformed into a streak of light racing through the woods; after four successive flashes, he arrived at the base of the cliff. Launching himself upward, an invisible air current lifted him, and just as his force was about to run out, he condensed a transparent air wall beneath his feet, acting like a stepping stone, he pressed on to rise further and landed nimbly on top of the cliff.

Pei Hong looked around, finding some footprints on the ground, but they were all very blurred.

He raised his hand and shot a beam of light upwards.

Bang!

A burst of light exploded high above, instantly illuminating the area around the cliff for hundreds of meters; however, Pei Hong didn’t find any traces.

The light quickly faded, restoring darkness.

Pei Hong helplessly shook his head; a Superconductor Mage had strong and comprehensive combat ability but didn’t have good methods for sensing or locating enemies.

He sparked a flame in his hand, searched around the cliff for a while, but as he suspected, found nothing.

That ranger had long since fled.

Pei Hong looked toward the direction of the camp, he had some night vision ability, but at such a distance he couldn’t clearly see what was happening in the camp, or even pinpoint the exact location of the camp.

"Distance between 430 meters to 460 meters."

"That far..."

"His Etheric Fluctuations indicate he is an Intermediate Ranger, at most not exceeding Advanced level, how could he kill a target from such a distance?"

Pei Hong couldn’t figure it out.

Even a Legendary Ranger, in such dark conditions and at that distance, to shoot three arrows and kill Liu Yusu would be very difficult to achieve.

However, Liu Yusu had indeed died, and her death was utterly baffling.

"No." Pei Hong shook his head inwardly, "Her death wasn’t unjust."

He had been placed in the Seventh Group led by Liu Yusu by corporate arrangements for over a year now.

This Super Master came from a privileged background with exceptional talents; from an early age, she was pampered by her parents and elders, developing a domineering and self-centered way of acting. She knew how to restrain herself on Earth, but once in the Star Realm outside the cities, she would completely unleash her nature, behaving utterly without inhibition.

The corporate leaders had placed him by Liu Yusu’s side hoping he could look after her and intervene if necessary, to prevent disasters.

But it was useless, she didn’t listen to him at all, still acting recklessly.

In the end, she reaped the consequences.

Pei Hong wasn’t saddened by Liu Yusu’s death, nor did he have any thoughts of avenging her.

Even he had a premonition that this day would eventually come, the troubling question was how he should report this to the group leaders?

Liu Yusu’s father was a member of the group’s board, with a powerful family background, which explained her arrogance.

"This is tough..."

Pei Hong turned to look around, sighed, and leapt down the cliff.

Upon returning to the camp, he found the situation was worse than expected.

Most of the war pets of the Seventh Group belonged to Liu Yusu, and now that she was dead, many of the war pets had gone out of control, with several Masters constantly calming them to prevent any chaos.

Given time, these war pets would still run away in large numbers.

How were they supposed to track the enemy now?

Pei Hong completely gave up hope, as he hadn’t intended to chase after them initially, firstly because it was highly unlikely he could catch up, and secondly, catching up would definitely mean more casualties.

An enemy capable of moving freely in the dark, shooting targets hundreds of meters away, was best left unprovoked.

"Vice-captain, what do we do now?" a member of the group asked.

What to do? Just chill!

Pei Hong really felt like throwing in the towel, but remembering the 30 million annual salary the group paid him, he said, "Try to maintain control over the war pets, especially the three giant-billed winged dragons. Don’t let them fly away. We’ll head back to Olympia at dawn."

A few members looked at each other but proceeded to do as instructed.

What they didn’t know was that their every move was being closely monitored by someone in the shadows.

Ji Xinghuo had already moved to the other side of the camp.

Standing behind a tree in stealth mode, his magnetic field sensor encompassed the camp over seven hundred meters away. Observing for a moment, he confirmed that these people had no intention of pursuing him and quietly left.

"It’s time to leave Peak Valley."

Ji Xinghuo moved forward in the darkness, but instead of heading directly east toward Olympia, he opted north to take a longer route.

By daybreak, he was already over a hundred kilometers away from the area where the meteor had fallen.

But he kept heading north.

It wasn’t until noon that Ji Xinghuo stopped to rest and allowed the little green snake to come out of his pocket, saying, "Spit out everything."

The little green snake opened its mouth and spit out the entire backpack and the bag containing the Alien Species, all intact.

And the thing wrapped in a cloth strip.

Ji Xinghuo picked it up and unwrapped the cloth.

Instantly, a dazzling light shone from his hand, a large, multicolored gem appeared before his eyes.

It was about the size of a ping-pong ball, irregular in shape, with signs of high-temperature scorching on its surface, resembling glazed glass, as if it had burned away extraneous impurities to leave only a hard core with sharp edges.

"It really is Star Tears!"

"So hot!"

Ji Xinghuo had seen videos of it online before; this one in his hand was exactly like the ones in the videos. Then his hand shook, and the Star Tears fell to the ground.

He felt once again the immense energy contained within the Star Tears, its nature incredibly volatile. With his current body, he was unable to withstand it.

"How much star power can absorbing a Star Tear add?"

Ji Xinghuo was curious.

He carefully observed it and inferred based on the strength of the Ether Energy fluctuations that if he absorbed it, his star power could increase by at least 1000 to 1500 points!

This was five to seven times more than all the star power he currently possessed.

Moreover, after absorbing it, he could fuse with an additional Alien Species.

"What a great item!"

Ji Xinghuo couldn’t help but exclaim, his joy indescribable, all the hard effort searching for two days, and nearly exposing himself in front of two Super Mutants, was not in vain.

Star Tears rarely appear in public transactions, and the price isn’t fixed.

Selling it for two to three hundred million would certainly be no problem.

Rich overnight!

However, Ji Xinghuo certainly wasn’t foolish enough to sell the Star Tears. Since he couldn’t absorb it for now, he’d use it immediately once he advanced to a Super Mutant level.

Right then, the little green snake slithered over, obviously also curious about the Star Tears.

It habitually stuck out its tongue to lick it and immediately recoiled as if burnt, quickly retracting its tongue and swiftly crawling back.

"Hahaha..."

Ji Xinghuo laughed at its antics.

It was said that monsters could also absorb Star Tears, but they had to be at the Superior level, while the little green snake was just an Elite Spirit Item, one rank below.

He picked up the Star Tears, wrapped it in a clean cloth bag, and had the little green snake swallow it again.

The energy fluctuations from the Star Tears were too strong and carrying it on his person could easily be detected; hiding it inside the little green snake’s stomach was the safest option.

Besides the Star Tears, Ji Xinghuo also reorganized his luggage.

Items he only needed when setting up camp, such as tents and sleeping bags, and others he didn’t urgently need, like most of the spare arrows and Composite Bow maintenance tools, were all repacked into another bag and placed inside the little green snake’s stomach, reducing the weight of the backpack by seventy to eighty percent.

While Ji Xinghuo intended to travel light, to avoid drawing unnecessary attention, he still carried the backpack, appearing no different from a normal Solo Hunter.

He continued northward for two days.

On the way, he passed by the team he had previously annihilated; the weapons and equipment left there were still intact, and he picked up a few useful items. Now, with the little green snake, he could carry them all.

Then he turned east and took a detour of several hundred kilometers.

Five days later, he finally saw the city walls of Free City. Once he entered the city, he immediately boarded an airship.

When the airship landed in the East Xia District of Olympia, Ji Xinghuo looked around at the familiar, long-missed district and relaxed, thinking to himself, "I’m back!"
