Chapter 99 - 67 Alien Coexistence
Chapter 99: Chapter 67 Alien Coexistence
Having just stepped out of the aerostat landing field, Ji Xinghuo noted several gazes fixed upon him, but they quickly shifted away.
Magnetic field sensing identified the sources of those gazes.
They belonged to three Mutants: one was sitting in a restaurant outside the doors of the landing field, another was in a room on the third floor of the hostel across the street, covertly observing from behind a window.
And the last was blending into the crowd, disguised as a traveler.
Their attention swept over the individuals coming to and from the aerostat landing field, paying extra attention whenever a Solo Hunter appeared.
All these Solo Hunters had one thing in common: they were carrying bows and arrows on their backs.
"People from the Myriad Beast Garden group?"
Ji Xinghuo speculated inwardly.
The Hunting Group from Myriad Beast Garden should have returned to Olympia by now. The status of that Super Master I shot must have been high; the Myriad Beast Garden group would not let it go so easily.
However, Ji Xinghuo was not too worried; his face had been covered that day, showing only his eyes.
Before entering Free City, he had changed his entire set of equipment.
The Dragon Falcon Eagle Bow and the Thunderbolt Battle Blade had been put away, replaced by a Composite Bow of the Hunter who fell to his arrow. The ceramic steel Armor he was wearing was also taken off, replaced with a suit of black leather armor. Even his backpack was changed; his entire attire and equipment were completely different from what he had worn when he departed.
Ji Xinghuo walked out of the landing field openly, pretending to be completely unaware that someone was secretly tailing him.
He then boarded a steam-powered bus.
As expected, nobody followed; his change of clothes had worked.
Sitting at the back of the bus, with no one beside him, the little green snake poked its head out from the pocket on his chest, looking around curiously with its golden yellow eyes.
Just a few hours ago, when it was time to enter Free City, it had been quite scared, even contemplating running away.
It took a while for Ji Xinghuo to console the snake before it agreed to enter the city.
"Hide well, don’t get discovered," Ji Xinghuo softly pressed its head back into his pocket and whispered. In some ways, Olympia is more dangerous than the wilds; the environment and smells are more complex. If the little green snake were to go missing, it might be very difficult to find again.
A slight pain on his finger indicated the little green snake had bitten him in protest, though it hadn’t even broken the skin.
"You little rascal..."
Ji Xinghuo felt helpless inside.
His primary objective for returning this time was to solve the communication issue with the little green snake.
The most direct method was to merge with an Alien Species called "Beast Speaker" like a Master would, but he had no interest in becoming a Master, not wanting to waste an opportunity to merge just for an Ability that only enabled communication with wild beasts.
There were many Abilities that allowed communication with the creatures of Star Realm.
Besides Beast Speaker, there were other Abilities like Friend of Birds, Mind Sensing, Sensory Synchronization, Mind Link, and so on. There was no necessity to merge with an Alien Species.
Many Superpower Equipment companies would develop gear to communicate with pets.
Generally, an Alien Species is fashioned into convenient and compact ornaments that can be carried at all times, known as Imperial Decree ornaments.
The effects of Imperial Decree ornaments are far inferior to those of merged Alien Species.
For example, just like a genuine Beast Speaker, a Master can communicate with their War Pet anytime and maintain close contact. However, an Imperial Decree Brooch made from a Beast Speaker Alien Species consumes multiple times more Star Power when used, and when not in use, the connection with the War Pet is cut off, making it difficult to maintain a close relationship with the pet.
Even so, Imperial Decree ornaments are a good supplement, offering Mutants other than Masters the chance to own War Pets.
Many Masters, in order to control more War Pets, would purchase several Imperial Decree ornaments as well.
However, Imperial Decree ornaments are extremely expensive.
At a minimum they are Superpower One Star, yet the price is two to three times that of other Superpower One Star equipment, and it’s not surprising that they cost over ten million.
Ji Xinghuo’s bare minimum requirement was to purchase an Imperial Decree ornament.
But he had higher aspirations.
There was a Transcendent Ability called "Alien Coexistence," which allowed Mutants to establish the closest possible connection with their War Pets. This ability enabled instant mental communication and sharing each other’s Abilities!
The Mutant could gain an Ability from the War Pet.
In turn, the War Pet would also gain an Ability from its owner, a true win-win situation.
Merging with Alien Coexistence was akin to gaining a new Ability and also obtaining a War Pet. This is definitely much more cost-effective than merging with a standalone Ability. The greater the potential of the War Pet, the higher the benefits gained from Ability coexistence, and the limit depends on the future of the War Pet!
The vast majority of Masters, as well as Mutants with War Pet professions, coveted Alien Coexistence.
As a result, Alien Coexistence was in high demand.
And given that it’s a Transcendent Ability, even the least expensive Alien Species of this level cost millions, to say nothing of the much-sought-after Alien Coexistence.
Therefore, Ji Xinghuo merely entertained the idea, uncertain of his chances.
It all depended on how much money he could make from the loot of his latest expedition.
Ji Xinghuo got off the bus on Qinghao Street. As he neared the villa district, he scanned ahead with his magnetic field sensing and a smile appeared on his face.
Ren Mian and Jiangnan Caiyi were both back.
Chi Zhonglin was not there, likely out on a jaunt and would return in the evening.
"Are they waiting for me?"
Ji Xinghuo didn’t rush into the villa district. Instead, he turned into a deserted alleyway and changed back into his ceramic steel Armor, hung the Dragon Falcon Eagle Bow on his back, and sheathed the Thunderbolt on his waist. He packed the Alien Species he had acquired into his backpack, presenting the appearance of a hunter freshly returned from a hunt. Only then did he enter the villa’s gates.
As he approached the entrance, Jiangnan Caiyi opened the door from inside.
"Xinghuo!"
Her face was full of surprise and happiness, "You’ve finally returned!"
"Caiyi," Ji Xinghuo stepped inside and briefly hugged her before letting go, "When did you two get back to Olympia?"
"I came back last week." Caiyi said as she helped Ji Xinghuo set down the large backpack and unbuckle his weapon equipment. "My sister returned three days ago, and Zhonglin just arrived yesterday, but he’s not home right now. He went out to hang out with friends."
She looked at the heavy backpack, and said with some concern, "Xinghuo suddenly going out hunting alone gave me quite a scare. Thankfully, you came back safely."
"People need to grow, after all. I can’t rely on you guys for everything," Ji Xinghuo said with a smile.
He looked towards another door in the villa’s hallway.
Ren Mian emerged from the garden, wearing a fitted summer dress at home and a sunhat, her face of peerless beauty adorned with a gentle smile.
"Ren Mian."
"You’re back?" Ren Mian looked Ji Xinghuo up and down, nodding slightly, "It seems that your endeavors have been quite fruitful, and your strength must have improved as well."
Jiangnan Caiyi suddenly said, "When my sister heard that Xinghuo had gone out by himself, she was really worried about you. She also said that if you didn’t come back in a few more days, she would go to Peak Valley to find you."
Ji Xinghuo had mentioned in his letter to her that he was going to Peak Valley.
"I’ve caused Ren Mian to worry about me," Ji Xinghuo said with a laugh.
"You’re a member of my team, and as the captain, it’s only right that I worry about your safety," Ren Mian said evenly, though her explanation seemed somewhat superfluous.
Ji Xinghuo’s gaze was meaningful, "That’s right."
"I heard that Star Tears have appeared in Peak Valley. You were there too, didn’t you go look for them?" Ren Mian changed the subject.
"I went," Ji Xinghuo nodded. "The Star Tears flew right over my head when they fell."
"Really? What a coincidence," Jiangnan Caiyi exclaimed in surprise.
"It was a magnificent sight. It was my first time witnessing a Star Realm celestial phenomenon," Ji Xinghuo chuckled. "Then I immediately went to look for the Star Tears, but there were too many people. After searching for several days without any results, and since it was too dangerous for me alone, I decided to come back."
Ren Mian found it odd, "You have magnetic field sensing and still didn’t find it?"
"Maybe I was just unlucky," Ji Xinghuo shrugged, not wanting to tell anyone that he had found the Star Tears just yet, as it would only bring unnecessary trouble.
Jiangnan Caiyi expressed her pity for him, "That’s too bad."
"Xinghuo, why don’t you freshen up? I’ll make you a bowl of noodles, and while you eat, you can tell us about your hunting experience this time," she suggested.
"Sure."
Ji Xinghuo went back to his room, took a quick and refreshing bath, and came out feeling refreshed.
By the time he emerged, Jiangnan Caiyi had already prepared a steaming bowl of beef noodles, topped with two sunny-side-up eggs, enticingly placed on the dining table.
"Thank you, Caiyi."
Under the watchful eyes of the two beautiful ladies, Ji Xinghuo devoured the entire bowl of noodles in two minutes, let out a satisfied belch, and looked content.
"Caiyi’s cooking skills are getting better and better. I often missed the food you made while I was away." He sincerely praised, speaking the truth, "Now that I finally got a chance to eat it, it’s wonderful!"
"You flatter me, Xinghuo," Jiangnan Caiyi said modestly, but it was clear that she was delighted.
Suddenly, footsteps from outside reached them.
Chi Zhonglin walked in, and upon seeing the three people seated at the dining table, he exclaimed loudly, "I was wondering where the smell of beef noodles was coming from, it turns out Xinghuo is back. Caiyi, make me a bowl too, I’m just in time for a meal." He patted his stomach, a clear look of craving on his face.
"Of course, Zhonglin, please wait a moment." Jiangnan Caiyi then asked, "Xinghuo, would you like another bowl?"
Ji Xinghuo nodded, "That would be great, thank you, Caiyi."
Chi Zhonglin sat down beside him, wrapping an arm around Ji Xinghuo’s shoulders with a carefree demeanor, "You’ve got guts, as a Primary Ranger, daring to go to Peak Valley alone and even making it back in one piece. So, did you make any gains?"
Ji Xinghuo stood up, grabbed his backpack, and with a rustling sound, dumped over two hundred Alien Species onto the table.
"So many?"
Chi Zhonglin’s eyes widened.
Usually, when the three of them went hunting together, they would get just forty or fifty Alien Species, which was already a substantial haul given their abilities far exceeded those of other Mutants.
Yet Ji Xinghuo alone had gathered more than four or five times that amount!
"How many creatures did you kill?" Chi Zhonglin picked up an Alien Species from the table, examining them one by one and noticed that Rock Skin was the most abundant, making up about two-thirds, while the quality of the remaining Alien Species was also good, with Toughness, Violent Jump, Balance, and there was even a Superior Level of Gigantification!
"I’ve lost count of how many I killed. It was all quite easy," Ji Xinghuo said as he picked up a stone-like Alien Species from the table. "Take a look at this one."
Before Chi Zhonglin could take a closer look after getting his hands on it,
Ren Mian had already recognized it and exclaimed in surprise, "Basalt Body!"
"What?" Chi Zhonglin was astounded, he knew well that Basalt Body was a Transcendent Ability, and he stood up abruptly, "You killed that Stone Scythe Giant Demon?"
"Of course not," Ji Xinghuo laughed, "It was another Stone Scythe Giant Demon, a Superior creature, unfortunately without Earth Pulse."
Chi Zhonglin’s emotions surged and then sank, and after a few seconds of being flustered, he lamented, "Ah, if only it had Earth Pulse, that’s a pity, such a pity!"
He sat back down, shook his head with a smile, "But even so, if it had Earth Pulse, you probably wouldn’t have been able to hunt it down. Even like this, for you to solo kill a Stone Scythe Giant Demon is quite impressive. If I had gone, I wouldn’t have had even half the confidence you did."
Ji Xinghuo felt the same.
The Stone Scythe Giant Demon was formidable in melee, and he happened to counter it, also having the advantage of the terrain at the time.
"Do you want this Basalt Body?" he asked. "If you do, I can sell it to you for cheap."
"No, thanks," Chi Zhonglin clearly wasn’t interested. "I’ve got Tungsten Dragon Scale, its defense is no less than Basalt Body’s without compromising agility and speed."
He handed the Basalt Body back to Ji Xinghuo.
"Ren Mian," Ji Xinghuo turned to Ren Mian, "I’d like to sell all these Alien Species. Do you think I could get an Alien Coexistence in return?"
