Chapter 1665: Chapter 163 No Gain
Two days had passed, and there was some progress in the other projects, but everyone saw that the project Peter Brown was in charge of had not achieved much.
Two days later, Henry Carter held a status update meeting.
At the meeting, Henry Carter went over the project he was responsible for, a 30-million real estate project. It wasn’t too big, but with his operation, some connections were made clear and results were believed to be forthcoming soon.
After reporting on his own project, Henry Carter’s face showed a smug satisfaction, proving to everyone that he too was capable.
Then Henry Carter turned to Peter Brown and said, "Peter Brown, how is your project going? I heard it has expanded to 100 million."
Feeling everyone’s eyes on him, Peter replied, "Yes, the project has been redesigned and planned as a large-scale expansion of a reservoir, with an investment of 100 million."
Matthew Clarkson seemed very concerned as he said, "This is a big project. If we can secure it, our branch office’s task will be considered complete. Peter Brown, what are the chances? What kind of support do you need from the branch office?"
"Let me update you all on the current situation."
Peter Brown then began to inform everyone about the whole situation.
After listening, everyone’s expressions became complicated. Matthew Clarkson sighed, "It seems like we don’t stand a chance at all. Both Madison O’Donnell and Huxley Taylor have quite the background."
Henry Carter said, "The Group’s headquarters also called to inquire about this project. We have to try our best to compete for it no matter what. Peter Brown, this is no trivial matter. You better put in some extra effort."
As for the Riverwater Valley Reservoir project, everyone discussed it, but no matter how they discussed, the so-called support was merely lip service and lacked any practical measures.
Peter keenly observed and even guessed that everyone probably just wanted to see him fail.
Afterwards, everyone reported on the projects they were following. Clearly, everyone else’s progress was very smooth, except for Peter’s, which had no results to show.
After the meeting ended, everyone walked out laughing and chatting.
"Peter Brown, take the Riverwater Valley Reservoir project seriously," Henry Carter told Peter Brown and then left.
Everyone knew deep down that although the project was not listed for assessment, if Peter Brown achieved no success in this project, it would be a blow to him.
When he returned to his office, Leah Nelson came in shortly after.
"Boss, there are all sorts of rumors at the office!"
Looking at Leah Nelson, Peter Brown knew she was worried about his affairs, and her well-being was connected to his success or failure. He smiled slightly and said, "Nothing is final until the very end."
"But recently, after following you in the market, the results aren’t looking very good."
Peter smiled again and said, "Don’t worry. We’ve already achieved a lot of progress, and there will be rewards in the end."
After observing Peter Brown, Leah Nelson couldn’t discern where his confidence came from and could only shake her head.
Seeing Leah Nelson leave after a while of conversation, Peter began to contemplate. Through his machinations, Madison O’Donnell and Huxley Taylor had engaged in a fierce battle, and their confrontation had moved from the shadows to the open. He was now receiving a lot of information through his own network.
It was time to apply more pressure!
Peter sent some more materials to both parties.
This was like providing them with ammunition. It remained to be seen whether they would draw their backers into the fight during their struggle.
Now, Peter could always learn some of their secret affairs through their connections and then dig out these secrets by hacking into their computers and other means, thus supplying ammunition for both sides to use in their fight.
Peter wasn’t concerned about how their battle would end. After all, from what he knew, neither party was good news.
After completing this task, Peter leisurely left the office.
At this time, everyone was watching Peter. While others were running around the market daily, Peter had stopped after a while, leaving people wondering what exactly he was doing all day.
"Peter, I’ve heard that your company is facing some trouble in the project competition," said Henry Ford, calling from abroad, to Peter’s surprise. He had even learned about this situation.
"Brother Montgomery, you’re actually aware of what’s happening here!"
"Well, I still have some connections in the branch office. They mentioned it to me when we talked."
Peter nodded inwardly; those people were now aligned with him. They cared about his circumstances and, seeing that he had no achievements while other leaders were succeeding, they undoubtedly felt anxious.
"Rest assured, I have a plan for this matter."
Henry Ford responded, "With the county’s leadership changing, previous connections probably won’t count for much. I can’t help you with this."
"I’m aware. Everyone has changed, and it is necessary to reassess our relations. I’ve also been quietly preparing, and while it seems I’m inactive, the chances of us securing the project are still very high."
The call from Henry Ford was a gesture of concern, and upon hearing Peter’s confident words, Henry felt reassured, considering that Peter had backers and was likely well-prepared for this situation.
"Well, as long as you are confident. It’s clear some people want to see you embarrassed. Work hard on this, and even if you can’t win the project, you must demonstrate your abilities, or your reputation will suffer greatly."
"I understand. Brother, how is your project progressing?"
"It’s hard to say. Africa is too hot, and a single mosquito bite can be lethal. The work is challenging."
"I can’t assist you with that!"
"Just do well in your own business. Your recent promotion will benefit greatly from a successful 100 million project. It will silence your critics. So, do whatever is necessary to secure the project—use whatever means and Power you need."
With a subtle smile, Peter replied, "Brother Montgomery, the final phase is upon us. Rest assured, we won’t have any problems."
After the phone call, Peter pondered the final offensive move he should make.
When he got home, Sadie Smith had already prepared the dinner. Peter looked at Sadie and asked, "How’s your driving going?"
"I’ve been scolded several times," Sadie replied with a gloomy expression.
