Chapter 1666: Chapter 164: Involvement

Three days later, Henry Carter once again convened a briefing meeting.

The mood of this meeting was markedly different from the last, with everyone appearing heavily burdened.

Matthew Clarkson swore, "Damn it, what’s all this trouble about? With the province’s sudden crackdown, a good number of officials have been taken down, ruining all our connections!"

"Exactly. I’d just finally sorted out some relationships, and now they’re all messed up. I have no idea how things will develop next."

Henry Carter too was sighing incessantly.

Azrael Richardson lamented, "Why did the province have to make such a big fuss this time?"

Henry Carter said, "What I know is that two bigwigs really went at it with each other, toe to toe, and ended up exposing things that shouldn’t have been brought up, causing those below to suffer the consequences!"

Matthew Clarkson added, "The scope of this debacle is too large. Numerous relationships have to be reestablished, not only that, but I’ve heard that a lot of things have also been exposed about the bidding process. The superiors are demanding transparency, greatly reducing the room for personal manipulation in the process."

Everyone sat there, sighing, while Peter Brown pretended to be engrossed and stayed silent.

But no one knew more than Peter Brown. In fact, he was the orchestrator of everything. Having secretly provided ample ammunition to both sides, the conflict had escalated, and now the bigwigs in the background were feeling the heat themselves. Busy trying to extinguish the flames, they’d ended up severing some of their own connections.

"Peter Brown, how’s your project coming along?" inquired Henry Carter casually.

"The situation is still unclear at the moment, but given the extensive fallout, I believe it’ll be affected to some extent," replied Peter nonchalantly.

Presently, no one had the energy to concern themselves with Peter’s affairs; their own were overwhelming enough.

After further discussion that led nowhere, they hastily concluded the meeting and once again set to work untangling their relationships.

Returning to his office, Peter sat down and, after carefully studying his computer for a while, muttered to himself, "The final battle has arrived. Since it stands in my way, it must fall."

Having sent out the most critical documents, Peter shut down his computer.

At that moment, Tobia Armstrong gave him a call.

Tobia was truly flabbergasted at this time.

Initially, when Peter had called him about a promising opportunity, Tobia hadn’t felt much, merely lending a hand with managing some relationships. But the rapidly changing political winds within the province had taken him by surprise.

The two bigwigs Peter mentioned had inexplicably begun full-scale warfare.

The battle, small at the outset, had escalated over time, rising from the ranks below to involve the bigwigs themselves.

Being in the provincial capital, Tobia could feel the intensity of the battle more than anyone else, as if an invisible hand were guiding things. Just when it looked like the flame between the two bigwigs might die down, an even larger conflict would suddenly erupt.

What on earth was going on?

Thinking this, Tobia’s mind went to Peter, and he made the call.

"Peter, how’s the Riverwater Valley project coming along?" Tobia asked casually.

"Please be assured, Mr. Armstrong, our work is nearly complete, and we have a very good chance," Peter replied.

"Mm, I remember what you told me last time. How did you know they’d run into trouble?"

"I guessed," Peter claimed.

Of course, Peter wouldn’t reveal the real situation.

Tobia considered asking but then shook his head inwardly. He figured if Peter didn’t want to talk, pushing him would not only be futile but might also offend some powerful figure behind Peter.

"By the way, I’ve already done a lot of work, we’re secure in third place."

"Mr. Armstrong, our company is the strongest among all those casting votes. As long as there aren’t any unexpected factors, we shouldn’t have a problem," Peter reassured.

"Peter, winning a tender is also about relationships. You should be very meticulous with your bidding."

"Yes, we’re taking it seriously."

"Alright, make sure you do."

After the call, Peter began focusing on the final bidding details.

Upon returning to his villa, Sadie Smith’s car was still out. After eating something casually, Peter then opened his computer.

In the time that followed, Peter’s cell phone was busy tabulating various prices.

These were the bidding offers of all the competing units.

While that kind of information was hard to come by for others, Peter accessed it effortlessly, simply using a program to investigate their bid prices.

Actually, Peter had been working on this for some time, already collecting information on all parties involved, but he was not going to reveal his final offer until the very end. Today was the deadline, and Peter had not only used computer programs but also analyzed calls on his cell phone to come up with the bid prices.

There shouldn’t be any major changes now, should there?

The next morning, Peter gathered his business department staff for a brief meeting. After that, they quickly sprang into action, and production of the tender began.

Florida Collins, the business manager, was very dedicated to Peter’s affairs, mobilizing all the strongest resources from headquarters, and the office buzzed with activity.

Entering Peter’s office, Florida Collins expressed her concern, "Brother Wang, this final tender is critical. How much should we quote?"

Peter wrote a figure for her, saying, "This is what we’ll include in the end."

Looking at the number, Florida queried, "Should we go by this figure?"

Nodding slightly, Peter replied, "Yes, follow this figure closely, just be confident about it."

Watch Florida’s hesitant departure, Peter resumed his surveillance to ensure nothing went awry at this crucial juncture.

Checking the status of the two bigwigs, Peter found out that the superiors had intervened, and both were in trouble.

It seemed Madison O’Donnell and Huxley Taylor were done for.

The tender was completed swiftly at their end, and after thoroughly checking and double-checking that there were no issues, Peter allowed Florida Collins and her team to proceed with the bidding.

Honestly, everyone had noticed Peter’s method: sitting in his office day after day, scarcely spending any time on cultivating relationships, and even less on gauging other companies’ tendering strategies. Not knowing the bids from the other companies, how could such a haphazard bid be successful?

Those who understood the bidding process were all shaking their heads. It would be surprising if Peter’s lack of effort resulted in winning the bid.
