Chapter 1640: Chapter 1638: Taking Office

Tobia Armstrong personally led the team to the branch office to announce the adjustments to the leadership.

As Tobia Armstrong strode towards the podium, the branch’s newly appointed leadership members followed closely behind him.

The branch’s personnel had been notified well in advance, and no one dared to be absent from such a meeting. The entire middle and upper leadership of the branch office filled the seats below.

Many of the branch’s staff directed their gazes towards Peter Brown.

The expressions towards Peter Brown were complicated. Just a few months ago, he was a temporary worker doing odd jobs; now, astonishingly, he had ascended to a leadership position at the branch. This change took everyone by surprise. However, upon reflecting on Peter’s path to advancement, people could only smile bitterly; he indeed had real talent.

Three foreign languages!

Computer expert!

And he performed so impressively in examinations!

Remembering Peter’s formidable capabilities, everyone lost the courage to compete; they simply weren’t in the same league.

Peter didn’t concern himself with what others thought. In the branch, he ranked third, closely following Dexter, the newly transferred Deputy Secretary.

Peter used to be the one holding the teapot on stage, adding hot water for others, and sometimes he wasn’t even the one tasked with that job. Now, however, he had changed his status and sat among those on stage.

As he sat down, pulling his chair back, Peter felt a sense of relief in his spirit.

After settling into his seat, Peter looked out at the audience and a feeling of control washed over him.

After calming his emotions, Peter was finally able to look down at the people seated below. As his gaze swept over them, he couldn’t help but feel a bit of pride. Many of those sitting there were people he had once tried to please, but now, they could only sit off stage while he sat lofty on stage.

This was a special realization; the trials had brought forth excellent results.

Tobia Armstrong’s aura was imposing. After he let out a slight cough, the entire conference room fell silent.

Henry Carter presided over the meeting. After a few opening remarks, he invited the Group’s Human Resources Director to speak.

"Comrades, after the Group’s deliberation, we have decided to adjust the leadership team at the branch office. Now, I will announce the Group’s personnel appointments..."

As the Human Resources Director read from the document, everyone’s attention once again turned to the leadership members.

Although the news of the appointments had already spread through various channels, actually hearing the document’s proclamation stirred complex emotions in everyone. People could only smile wryly to themselves, realizing that despite their many years of hard work, they still couldn’t outdo Peter Brown, the migrant worker. It was as if they were no better than pigs.

Afterwards came Tobia Armstrong’s speech. He had a profound understanding of theory and eloquently conveyed the central tenets. He emphasized the importance of adjusting the leadership from a theoretical perspective. Peter admired him greatly and thought he also needed to study this area seriously. Now as a leader, he couldn’t afford to only talk about technicalities during meetings. Looking at Mr. Armstrong’s deep understanding of theory, how he could elevate trivial matters to new heights, Peter knew he must learn; he ought to attain such a level of proficiency.

After Tobia Armstrong finished speaking, it was Henry Carter’s turn, followed by others. Essentially, it was an opportunity to express their stance.

The others also seemed eager to emulate the spirit of unity and commitment to work diligently.

Peter also observed discreetly. Henry Carter wasn’t particularly eloquent, but the Deputy Secretary, Matthew Clarkson, had quite impressive oratory skills.

Azrael Richardson’s public speaking skills were not that great either, and another deputy manager named Rush Jones only had a few words to end his speech.

Peter’s learning ability was extremely strong; he had taken all the sets of theories from Tobia Armstrong’s earlier speech and moved them over verbatim, delivering them in kind.

Listening to Peter’s speech, Tobia Armstrong’s eyes revealed a look of astonishment; he had not expected Peter to possess such good eloquence.

The more Tobia Armstrong thought about Peter being someone he wanted to mentor, the more committed he became.

With capability, good theoretical knowledge, and even better eloquence, such a person only needed some grooming to be completely suitable for the branch manager position.

Not only him, but several leaders also turned their gaze towards Peter.

Actually, Peter had seriously considered his performance today; though it might unsettle Henry Carter, having the chance to impress the group’s executives and knowing that a good performance would be remembered by Mr. Armstrong, it was capital for his future development. So, even with potential disadvantages, Peter had to fight for it.

After finishing his speech, Peter stole a glance at Tobia Armstrong and instantly felt the satisfaction Armstrong had with his performance.

Good job, that went well today!

Peter awarded himself a high score.

After the meeting came the dinner gathering, a kind of ritual for the branch office. Tobia Armstrong didn’t leave; he sat and had dinner with everyone, and afterward, he called the leading members back to a meeting room to set some demands, mainly to get the branch on track quickly and to push forward with the annual plan.

After the talk, Tobia Armstrong shook hands with everyone, and when he took Peter’s hand, he said, "You are my nominee; I hope you won’t disappoint me!"

Peter hastily replied, "Please rest assured, Mr. Armstrong, I will definitely work hard."

With a pat on Peter’s shoulder, Tobia Armstrong then got into his SUV.

After sending off the leaders, Henry Carter felt a surge of high ambition and his aura grew. He looked at everyone and said, "Tomorrow morning at nine o’clock, let’s have a meeting of the leading members. Everyone has had quite a bit to drink today, so let’s call it a night."

Peter noticed that Azrael Richardson’s face was quite displeased, and he left as soon as he turned around.

Henry Carter frowned at the sight of Azrael Richardson’s departing figure.

When everyone returned to the dining hall, middle management all scrambled to toast.

Earlier, with Mr. Armstrong present, no one dared to let loose, but now that Mr. Armstrong had left, the atmosphere suddenly livened up.

Naturally, Peter became the center of the toasting, and with so many thoughts in their minds, everyone forcibly insisted on clinking glasses with Peter.

Seeing the situation, Peter grew uneasy; although he could handle his wine, this was not a battle he could easily win.

Glancing around at everyone, Peter more or less grasped what they were thinking.

After a moment, Peter simply started clinking glasses and drinking with everyone.

Of course, even the best tolerance couldn’t handle the multitude, and after drinking for a while, Peter began to feel he couldn’t go on; he thought if it continued like this, it wouldn’t end well. So, after drinking one more glass, Peter pretended to be drunk and suddenly slumped over in his chair.
