Chapter 1641: Chapter 1639: The Secret Battle Begins Again
"Manager Walter, come to my office," Henry Carter called out to Peter Brown as soon as he arrived at the office the next day.
"Dexter, what’s the matter?" Seeing the displeased expression on Henry Carter’s face, Peter asked in puzzlement.
With a snort, Henry Carter said, "Today is the first day of the leadership meeting, and Azrael Richardson just said he was too drunk to get out of bed. What do you make of that?"
"Everyone had quite a bit to drink yesterday. Could it really be that he drank too much?"
"Nonsense, he left early yesterday and barely drank any wine."
Hearing this, Peter looked at Henry Carter and asked, "Then what is the reason?"
"What other reason could there be? He just doesn’t want to start the leadership meeting so soon to discuss the adjustment of cadres."
At this point, Peter also seemed to understand and said, "If it starts now, it might not be in his favor!"
Henry Carter nodded and said, "It’s clear to everyone. He sees that we have joined forces, and he knows he can’t compete for the time being."
"What about Mr. Clarkson?" Peter asked.
Upon hearing the question, Henry Carter’s expression grew complex, "Just now, Addison heard that Azrael had drunk too much and volunteered to visit him."
Ah!
Peter also began to sense some issues at this moment.
Looking at Peter, Henry Carter said, "Although Addison comes from a political work background, he has also managed a few small projects."
There’s a deeper meaning in those words!
Peter now understood that the Deputy Secretary, Matthew Clarkson, was not content with just being a deputy and still wished to leave some mark.
After sitting down, Henry Carter passed a cigarette to Peter and said, "Azrael Richardson comes from a technical background, and he has always been in charge of the Engineering Technology Department of the branch office. Now that the higher-ups have assigned you to manage this sector, you can imagine, Azrael is not going to be comfortable."
"Then just report it to the higher-ups and let him continue to handle it," Peter suggested.
Henry Carter laughed and said, "Do you think the organization’s arrangements can be changed just like that?"
Peter hadn’t expected to clash with Azrael Richardson so soon; this was something he did not want to see happening. If it really did happen, he could only stand by Henry Carter.
Upon reflecting on Henry Carter’s words, Peter began to understand that Henry Carter wanted him to be at the forefront of this affair.
Smoking, Peter was rethinking this situation. This reflection made it clearer that the company’s covert struggle had already begun.
Henry Carter was a manager, eager to grasp real power, so he had pulled in Rush Jones, the deputy manager. It wasn’t clear what their relationship was, but it was apparent that Rush was obedient to Henry’s commands. This man wasn’t ambitious in terms of grappling for power, so Henry naturally had an ally in Rush. Now he only needed to pull in one more person, and he could choose between Azrael Richardson and Matthew Clarkson.
If this were the case, Peter himself could also end up isolated.
Being a deputy manager turned out not to be a simple matter!
When analyzing Henry Carter’s current thoughts further, Peter knew that for now, Henry was thinking of pulling him in because he too was a capable person.
The conflict between Azrael Richardson and Henry Carter was obvious to anyone. Initially, Henry could have pulled in Matthew Clarkson, but today, Matthew clearly showed an intention to side with Azrael. With this development, it became even less likely for Henry to let go of Peter.
On the other hand, wouldn’t Matthew Clarkson and his group consider pulling Peter to their side?
Things were getting complicated!
The more Peter thought about it, the more he felt that things were getting tangled within the company, and the situation held too many variables. A slight misstep could turn things drastic, and letting them pull each other might indeed make him the isolated one.
Now Peter was somewhat regretting the speech he had made earlier at the meeting. That speech had likely alerted both parties, and if they realized he posed a threat, could they join forces to isolate him?
Peter was beginning to understand why some highly capable people in the workplace ended up not being promoted but suppressed instead; they were too conspicuous. Thus, to advance, being low-profile was a safer approach.
Of course, these were merely fleeting thoughts in Peter’s mind at the moment. Since he had already become visible, he was not overly worried since he had his own backup plans.
As various thoughts flashed through his mind, Peter acted as if he would obediently follow orders and asked, "Dexter, what do you say we should do?"
Looking at Peter, Henry Carter felt reassured, thinking that this young man was still listening to him. They could then collaborate to suppress Azrael Richardson first.
Indeed, Henry had been wary of Peter during the meeting and even thought of roping in someone else. Now, seeing Peter’s demeanor, he temporarily set aside his own idea, as he did not wish to see Azrael and Matthew join forces.
"Manager Walter, let’s leave it at that for now. It’s good for everyone to prepare."
"Oh, right, Ivy Cooper called to say she wants to come back to work. Dexter, what do you think we should do about this?" Peter then brought up Ivy Cooper’s situation.
Henry Carter slightly furrowed his brows and said, "After causing so much trouble, what is she going to do coming back?"
"Apparently her family situation isn’t very good, and it’s been a while since the incident. Everyone who had something to say has said it. Perhaps we could arrange a low-profile job for her."
"Then let her start in the archives of the branch office. That place doesn’t have much contact with people from the external world."
Peter nodded and responded, "That sounds good. Her leg should still be healing, so she should be able to handle the work there."
Henry Carter clearly wasn’t focusing on this matter, looking towards Peter and saying, "You’re now in charge of engineering technology. The people in the Engineering Technology Department are all Azrael’s people. That’s going to be tough."
Peter smiled and replied, "Everyone is skilled in technology. Let’s win with our expertise."
Henry Carter laughed and said, "We’ll see how it goes."
"By the way, which office do you want? I’ll have someone set it up for you."
Peter knew that the leaders were superstitious. If something happened to a prior leader, generally no one wanted his office. Currently, one office belonged to Mason Woods and the other to Azrael Richardson. Peter did not want Mason’s office because it was shady, lacking in Yang energy, and working there could stifle one’s ambitions.
"Let’s pick one facing the sun for now."
"Alright, once you’ve made your choice, have someone tidy it up."
