Chapter 1615: Chapter 1614: The Matter of the Certificate
After dinner, Peter Brown truly found himself with nothing to do, so he lay on the bed watching TV, pondering what he should do.
Visit Rylan Williams?
After thinking it over, Peter decided against it. Rylan was very popular now, certainly visited by many, and it wouldn’t mean anything for him to go now. After all, he had been calling every day to report on the branch office’s work, and Rylan’s favorable impression of him was significantly rising—at least he wouldn’t be kicked out of the branch office for now.
While thinking, Peter’s thoughts shifted to Henry Ford, who, regardless of his personality, had treated him well in matters concerning himself.
With that thought, Peter started dialing Henry Ford’s number.
Since Henry had moved to the headquarters, even as a Deputy Chief Engineer, his actual power wasn’t as great as before. He was sitting at home watching TV when he received Peter’s call and responded with a smile, "Peter, what’s up?"
"Brother Montgomery, I’ve arrived in the capital city and was hoping to visit you if it’s convenient."
Hearing this, Henry was somewhat moved. Ever since he had lost that position, especially after Mr. Taylor was transferred, his visibility in the company diminished—fewer people paid him attention. He hadn’t expected that this young man would still think to visit him. It truly wasn’t easy.
Feeling excited, yet speaking calmly, Henry said, "Sure, I’m free at home anyway, come over."
Peter asked for Henry’s address, then left home and took a taxi to Henry’s place.
Henry lived in a nice neighborhood. After getting off the taxi, Peter bought quite a few gifts before he carried them to Henry’s home.
Seeing Peter carrying so many gifts, Henry smiled and said, "You should have just come directly, why buy all this stuff?"
"I’ve been wanting to visit you, my old leader, but never had the time."
After inviting Peter to sit down, Henry asked about the branch office’s situation, and Peter provided a detailed account of what had happened since Henry had left.
After listening, Henry sighed, "I didn’t expect that the branch had undergone so many changes in such a short time. Peter, well done, now you are handling the office work!"
"I’m not quite confident yet, that’s why I still want to improve my knowledge and get a diploma. This trip to the capital city was primarily to visit you, and secondly, I was planning to register for a self-study exam at Provincial University tomorrow."
"Haven’t you already registered?"
"I was supposed to have the examination this week, but when I asked Mr. Carter for leave, he mentioned that Provincial University had a pilot self-study program which could award a diploma within a year. He suggested that I register there, adding that I could directly receive a bachelor’s degree. Since he was heading to the capital for some work, I took a ride with him."
"Henry Carter, huh!"
A smile appeared on Henry Ford’s lips, and he thought to himself that Henry Carter seemed to have had some plans of his own.
Looking at Peter again, Henry Ford thought that he had never quite understood this young man. To say he had no connections in the capital seemed inaccurate, yet it did feel like he truly had them.
Thinking further, regardless of whether Peter had any connections in the capital, it was commendable that he visited him during this time.
Feeling warmer toward him, Henry said, "That’s good, being able to get a graduation certificate directly is indeed a good thing."
After chatting for a while, Henry Ford asked, "Rylan Williams should be returning to work in the next few days, don’t you think? What are your plans?"
"To be honest with Brother Montgomery, I’m not quite sure what to do, but I did stumble upon some good fortune recently."
Henry Ford laughed loudly, "I heard about that from your uncle; you made 1.5 million dollars last time, right? You took a million to help your uncle start a stone factory. In my opinion, it’s a good project. Our Province is almost a blank slate in this area. If managed well, it could really be a lucrative business. The experience from the branch office is for learning; study well, and even running a stone factory could be great."
"You’re right, Brother Montgomery. That’s what I think too. I want to enrich my knowledge first so that whatever I do in the future will succeed."
Drumming his fingers lightly on the chair, Henry Ford looked at Peter and said, "The Group is facing a severe shortage of personnel with a Construction Engineer Qualification Certificate. The Group plans to organize an examination for the qualification certificate through some connections. Although the connection is set, the scores are crucial, and the invigilation will be strict. The Group intends to have all professionals register for the examination. If you are confident, you might consider it, as I know you have been studying in this area."
"I saw that document. One requirement is work experience, and another is at least a Technical Secondary School diploma, neither of which I meet. I’m not qualified!"
Henry Ford smiled and said, "As long as your score is high enough, these issues won’t matter. I can help you provide a document for the work experience, and the company can handle it. A diploma from a Technical Secondary School is even easier to manage. Some people get a certificate from schools through connections and, since you are going to sit the self-study exam, if you can obtain a Bachelor’s Degree_ix a year later, no one can fault you."
Continuing, Henry Ford said, "If you want good prospects in the Group, you’ll need these certificates. Even if they want to promote you to project manager or such, having a Construction Engineer Certificate will make you more qualified. Now is the time for you to prepare for this."
Peter hadn’t expected such an opportunity from his visit to Henry Ford. Henry’s words made it clear: as long as his exam scores were sufficient, everything would be verified by the company, and there wouldn’t be any problems. Indeed, it was an opportunity.
"Thank you so much, Brother Montgomery!"
Henry Ford gave a slight smile and said, "Registering and getting the materials is easy. We can handle the document when the time comes. The crucial part is your exam score, which absolutely can’t be faked. The Group is casting a wide net this time; they do it every year, but few ever get the certificate. If it weren’t for your continuous review of this subject, I wouldn’t even mention it to you."
"Okay, how do I register?"
"It’s not complicated. You’re the office director, just tell the person in charge and have them list your name during registration."
Peter hadn’t really considered this before, but now, hearing Henry Ford’s words, he felt more inclined to take the exam.
