Chapter 1595: Chapter 1594: Getting the House_1
In the county’s most distinctive Flavorous restaurant, several leaders from the city, along with Henry Ford and a few leaders from the branch company, were seated. Peter Brown was also invited to attend this dinner party.
"Hadley, I didn’t expect your place to be hiding such talent. I have heard the reports from my comrades, Peter’s oral skills are truly awesome. To tell you the truth, have you considered transferring him to the Bureau of Investment Promotion to work?" Matthew Gardiner was surprised upon learning about Peter Brown’s situation and kept looking at him, seemingly pondering some idea.
Henry Ford gave a wry smile and said, "You know the situation over there."
Matthew Gardiner simply smiled and said, "Okay, let’s talk about this later. But honestly, this time at the investment conference, we really need Peter Brown’s help. Make sure to lend him to us when the time comes."
"That’s absolutely no problem."
Everyone chatted here for a while and drank merrily before the gathering dispersed.
Coming out of Flavorous, Henry Ford took Peter Brown to soak their feet.
While they were soaking, Henry Ford looked at Peter Brown and said, "Don’t mind my blocking your move to the city. Rest assured, as soon as there’s a better opportunity, I will still help you get there."
Peter Brown just smiled and said, "I’m getting used to the branch company already."
Looking at Peter, Henry Ford said, "Rest assured, being in the branch company also has its prospects. If you are truly talented, I will not let you waste your abilities. Keep working as the deputy director of the office for now. My advice for the next step is to get your diploma, preferably by passing a tough certification. As long as you have an engineering certificate, there will be absolutely no problem in this group company."
"I’m taking self-study exams, hoping to get my diploma this year."
"How confident are you?"
"I think there should not be too many problems."
"Good, good. Once you have the certificate, it will be even easier for me to speak on your behalf. Of course, the premise is that I’m still in this position."
Listening to Henry Ford’s insinuating words, Peter Brown nodded and said, "Edward, your contributions to the branch company are out there for all to see. I believe the superiors will consider this matter."
The smile on Henry Ford’s face grew even broader as he laughed heartily, "We are comrades in the same trench, after all."
After soaking for a while, Henry Ford smiled and said, "The masseuses here are good, do you want to pick one? I can pick one out for you."
Peter Brown quickly waved his hands saying, "No, no need."
Looking at Peter again, Henry Ford smiled and said, "Then I’ll leave you be."
Back at his accommodation, Peter washed his face and feet and then lay on the bed, running through what had happened that day in his mind.
A lot of things happened in one day, which made it somewhat difficult for Peter to adapt.
It seemed confirmed that he was considered talent; as long as he was seen as such, everyone would have to take him seriously. Even if Henry Ford were to fall out of power, they wouldn’t easily do anything to him. This was one of the benefits of the whole situation.
Of course, Peter also knew in his heart that just knowing three foreign languages was not likely enough to secure his position.
Ivy Cooper was right, if the leaders considered one talent, then he was talent, but if they had their doubts, no amount of ability would matter.
Of course, what Peter was most worried about now was the situation with Henry Ford.
Everyone thought he had a strong backing in the Provincial University, but he knew his own circumstances—there was no such backing at all. As such, there was nothing he could do about Henry Ford’s potential downfall.
If Henry Ford were to fall, what should he do?
With the situation having developed to this point, Peter truly had no solution.
Let nature take its course, he thought. What end Henry Ford was destined for, probably only the superiors in the group company would know. Peter had done what he could.
The next day the company held a meeting and made a decision to sell Peter a villa in the new residential development for a discounted price of 300,000 dollars. This settled the debate over whether or not Peter was considered talent.
What Peter found amusing was that now, not only were there no objections to him getting a house, people actually thought he was the most deserving person of such a benefit in recent years.
Peter didn’t care much for all that. After transferring a bit over 300,000 dollars, he had the keys in hand.
"Peter, you’ve got the villa now, isn’t it time to buy a good car?" Ivy Cooper looked at him with envy.
With a laugh, Peter said, "I just lent a million dollars to my uncle. He’s planning on starting up a stone factory. And now, spending over 300,000 on the house, I’ve got less than 200,000 left. I need to think of an investment to make, otherwise, I won’t even have the money for decorating."
"You actually lent millions to others!"
Ivy’s eyes widened as she looked at Peter in disbelief.
"Not exactly to a stranger, my uncle, you know. I think his project is pretty good."
Ivy shook her head and said, "You have to be careful lending money these days, families treat you like Heaven when they want to borrow from you, but once they have the money in hand, they become Heaven."
Peter just smiled and said, "It’s alright, it’s already lent. Now I’m left with less than 200,000, what do you think I should invest in? I heard about Wealth Management and such."
Reid Nelson shook his head and said, "Many of those things aren’t reliable. You might as well try stock trading."
Ivy commented, "There’s Silver Futures and such now, right? I’ve heard they can be very profitable. You could give that a try."
Reid responded, "It’s hard to say with that. Many are rumored to be internal trays or something where you would be playing on a system they set up. Dream on about making money."
"It’s not like that, some are credible, you can’t just throw them all into the same bucket."
The two women actually started arguing right there.
Listening to their debate, Peter realized there were ways to make money that he hadn’t known about and nodded slightly, "I’ll take some time to look into it, study it, and see if it’s feasible."
Ivy laughed and said, "In the end, having a house is better than anything. You should try to get it decorated as much as you can. Even renting it out would be an income."
"That makes sense. I’ll think about decorating it after a while. For now, I need to see if I can make some investment gains. It’d be great to earn back the costs for renovation."
Peter’s current idea was to develop a mobile game. With a lot or a little money, he had ways to get things done; others might need a big team, but he could save a lot of resources, it would just take more time.
