Chapter 1563: Chapter 1562: Exchange Information_1

"Reid, you don’t know about the issues between Ivy Cooper and Mr. Spencer?"

"I do know some, but it’s all just rumors. I always thought there was some kind of connection between their two families, but I never imagined it would be like this, heh."

Reid Nelson burst into laughter.

After laughing, she turned to Peter Brown and said, "I indeed wasn’t wrong about you, being able to dig out such confidential information. Here, I toast to you."

The two of them took another drink.

Glancing at Peter, she commented approvingly, "Not bad at all, your alcohol tolerance is good enough for socializing."

"Drinking wine is something I can handle, two pounds is no problem." In this regard, Peter showed himself to have a decent capacity for alcohol.

"Come on, have some vegetables." Reid Nelson served a helping of vegetables to Peter.

After eating for a while, Reid Nelson said, "After this incident, I don’t know what kind of countermeasures Edward Ford will adopt. It was a close call for him this time; I thought he was done for."

"Reid, I have a question. Everyone was saying that Edward Ford was in trouble; didn’t he know? Wouldn’t he take some precautions?"

"Peter, that’s what you don’t understand. I think this rumor was spread by Christian Greenhill and his people."

"Oh, if they were conducting their business in secret, why make it public?"

"I didn’t quite understand it before, but now that I know Mr. Spencer is involved, it all makes sense. They did it to show Mr. Taylor, to test him with this issue while also leading everyone to believe there was something wrong with Edward Ford. They pressured Ford to reveal his weaknesses. Tell me, if you were Edward Ford and suddenly found out someone might have discovered your secrets, would you still trust your previous hiding places?"

Peter Brown said, "Of course I’d be suspicious!"

"Exactly, they’ve got Edward Ford’s character down pat—he’s a man prone to suspicion. Hearing just a bit of rumor would make him feel insecure about keeping his unspeakable secrets in their usual place, so he’d look for a spot he thought others wouldn’t easily guess."

Peter Brown’s eyes widened with understanding as he nodded slightly, "I’m starting to grasp some of it. It’s a strategy tailored to his character. But I’ve heard my uncle mention he has a woman on the side; couldn’t he have placed those secrets with her?"

Reid Nelson laughed, "Wrong, too many people know about that woman. Would Edward Ford think he could hide her from Christian Greenhill and his crew? In fact, Ford’s real woman is that Cameron from finance."

"Ah!"

Peter was genuinely shocked, never having expected Reid Nelson to know this as well.

Thinking about Vincent Clinton possessing evidence supplied by Cameron about Henry Ford, Peter felt suddenly overwhelmed and a bit lost.

Reid Nelson laughed, "I’m not the office director for nothing. Christian Greenhill is trying to buy off the woman everyone knows about to get something from her. Meanwhile, Vincent Clinton is buying off Cameron, hoping to get some leverage too."

Turning to Peter, she said, "Now you understand why I wanted you to get the contents of Vincent Clinton’s safe, right?"

"But what if Cameron got involved with Vincent Clinton of her own volition?"

This time Reid Nelson shook her head, "How would I know about that? But consider, compared to Edward Ford, Vincent Clinton is a college graduate and a handsome man; if Cameron had to choose, she’d probably lean towards Clinton, right?"

The two chatted while they ate, now seeming to be comrades in the same trench, the conversation flowing without much reservation as they freely spoke each other’s names.

While eating, Peter was also mulling over the situation. Given that Henry Ford knew Cameron had given evidence to Vincent Clinton, what kind of measures might Ford take to recover that evidence? Perhaps some compromise might be reached between them. Besides, whether it’s Henry Ford or Christian Greenhill who rises to power, Vincent Clinton seems unlikely to benefit.

The more Peter thought about it, the more he felt it was highly possible that Henry Ford and Vincent Clinton had reached some kind of agreement to coexist peacefully.

"By the way, did you know? Although Cameron has resigned, she’s moved into a nice apartment complex, and she has divorced her husband just today," Reid said, meaningfully glancing at Peter.

"You mean she got her benefits?"

"It seems she obtained some kind of evidence against Edward Ford, and he found out. After negotiating, she apparently came away with some benefits. It’s just unclear what exactly went on between them."

Seeing Reid Nelson frown in contemplation, Peter hurriedly ate his food.

After a few bites, noticing Reid was still deep in thought, he ventured, "Could it be that the argument between Christian Greenhill and Vincent Clinton in the office that day was about this issue?"

Reid Nelson slapped her thigh, "You’re absolutely right, I hadn’t thought about it like that. Now it’s clear to me. Christian Greenhill knew about Cameron giving the evidence to Vincent Clinton and has been negotiating with him. They had an agreement, but somehow, Edward Ford found out about it. He figured it out through Cameron, confronted Vincent Clinton, and got back the evidence—or maybe they reached some deal. Now Ford isn’t worried about that issue anymore."

She sighed and said ruefully, "I thought we could take down Vincent Clinton this time, but I didn’t expect him to still have such leverage. Looks like Clinton won’t be falling anytime soon."

Peter Brown asked, "If he doesn’t fall, do you think he’ll come after you again?"

"Not for the time being," Reid answered calmly.

Looking at Reid Nelson, Peter thought he might have been overthinking it. If Reid Nelson could hold the position of office director, was it possible she lacked the means to deal with such situations? This woman was not as simple as he had imagined.

"What do you think will happen next?"

Reid Nelson shook her head, "Edward Ford will certainly survive this crisis and will have to stabilize the situation for now, so he likely won’t stir up more trouble. And if Vincent Clinton is as we suspect, he’ll also be safe—not only that, but Ford will probably even give him a share of the real benefits. As for Christian Greenhill, although he’s seriously offended Ford this time, he has Mr. Spencer behind him, so he should be able to hold his ground somewhat. However, Mr. Spencer might still make a move, perhaps promoting Ivy Cooper."

"She gets a promotion?"

With a bitter smile, Reid Nelson said, "That’s the advantage of having a backer. At this rate, sooner or later, she might take over my position." As she spoke, Peter noticed a fierce look in Reid Nelson’s eyes.
