Chapter 1564: Chapter 1563: Deadly Move_1
After dinner, there were no further activities, and Peter Brown had sent Reid Nelson away before returning to his place. Peter understood clearly that, at least under the current circumstances, it was impossible for Reid Nelson to have any in-depth communication with him. This woman was awesome, and her approach towards him was merely seductive. Thinking that it could go any further was utterly impossible.
Both were aware of this in their hearts, and even though they made some jokes, they never went too far.
Sitting in his room and contemplating his interactions with Reid Nelson, Peter couldn’t figure out what her next move might be.
However, the whole affair had nearly played out, and Henry Ford’s period of danger had passed. This had some benefits for himself too, so Peter didn’t want to get more involved. He could only sit there and watch the two women make their moves.
The next morning nothing had happened yet, but by the afternoon a rumor had emerged, claiming Christian Greenhill and Ivy Cooper were caught by the Anti-prostitution Squad while at a hotel, and they were released only after paying bail.
Peter hadn’t heard this rumor himself, but learned of the incident when Uncle Richard called to inquire about it.
After finishing his call outside, Peter returned to the office and couldn’t help but glance at Ivy Cooper.
At first glance, Peter couldn’t tell whether anything had happened to Ivy Cooper or not; she was sitting there, listening to music and looking at her computer, probably shopping on Taobao or something similar.
That’s weird, there seems to be no issue!
Sitting there, Peter wondered in what direction this affair was going to develop.
Taking another look at Reid Nelson, the woman was all business today—dressed in very proper professional attire, sitting there as if she was quite busy, scribbling away all day.
What exactly had happened?
When Peter left the office to glance at Christian Greenhill’s office, he saw that it was open, but there was no one inside.
Vincent Clinton wasn’t in his office either.
The entire situation carried an odd feeling, which made Peter somewhat puzzled.
Peter had dinner at Uncle Richard’s home that evening.
While eating, Archie Williams asked, "You didn’t notice anything off with Ivy Cooper and Christian Greenhill?"
"Christian Greenhill wasn’t in his office, and Ivy Cooper didn’t seem like someone who would do such a thing!"
"That’s strange. Now the rumor has spread everywhere, probably even in the authorities. I believe it will reach your headquarters too. This matter is really bizarre; it just suddenly came out. Some inquiries were made, and indeed, there was an Anti-prostitution operation yesterday, but I didn’t hear anything about catching a couple in the act."
Peter said, "As long as it’s not about Edward Ford, it’s fine."
Archie Williams nodded and replied, "You’re right. Let them handle this matter however they want; after all, it’s none of our business."
Peter then told Archie Williams about how Theodore Smith had called him yesterday to make some money.
After listening to the story, Archie Williams was surprised and thought for a moment before saying, "Don’t worry about it too much. In this situation, Theodore Smith also needs some helpers. Having you in the Integrated Office can count as a trusted follower for him, just follow him and you’ll be fine."
Of course, Peter didn’t divulge his clandestine actions, and Archie Williams naturally thought it was Theodore Smith looking for a few trusted followers, not suspecting anything unusual.
Peter took out 10,000 dollars and handed it to Archie Williams, saying, "Uncle Richard, I can’t return home right now, but if someone from the team is going back, could you please ask someone to take this money home? It’s time to improve things at home too."
Archie Williams nodded in approval and responded, "It’s good that you have such filial piety. Your family has also spent quite a bit of money because of you recently. This money can certainly help alleviate that. I’m actually planning to return home for a visit; I’ll take it back for you."
Leaving Archie Williams’s house, Peter’s mind was occupied with thoughts about the development of this situation.
Just then, his cell phone vibrated. When he picked it up, Peter realized he was witnessing a conversation between Ivy Cooper and Mr. Spencer.
"Ivy Cooper, what a mess you’ve made!"
Theodore Smith’s voice was filled with anger.
Then he heard Ivy Cooper, somewhat anxiously, say, "Peter, don’t believe the rumors. Christian Greenhill and I have nothing going on."
"Ivy Cooper, you know how I’ve treated you. I haven’t wronged you in any way, have I? There are some things you just can’t do!"
After speaking sternly, Theodore Smith hung up the phone.
Ivy Cooper kept saying "hello" for a while, but when there was no response, she had to hang up.
Afterwards, Ivy Cooper called Christian Greenhill and said, "Christian Greenhill, what should we do about this? Mr. Spencer is getting suspicious!"
Christian Greenhill was also panicking at this point and exclaimed loudly, "Who in the world started this rumor, damn it!"
"Christian Greenhill, now that Mr. Spencer is upset, things have gotten complicated. If we don’t clear this up, neither of us will have it easy. Tell me, who’s behind this?"
"Who else could it be? Dammit, I feel like it’s Theodore Smith’s doing. The rumor started at the team level; this time he wants revenge on us."
"You mean he wants to target us and get Mr. Spencer to stop protecting us first?"
"Exactly, it must be. I think they are the ones who orchestrated this!"
After discussing for a while, they decided that Ivy Cooper should immediately make a trip to the provincial city and seek Theodore Smith’s forgiveness.
Listening to their conversation, Peter was even more baffled, thinking who could have been behind all this?
From what everyone was saying, it should be Theodore Smith, and Peter believed that it was certainly his doing.
Just as the thought crossed his mind, Peter called Reid Nelson, saying, "Reid, there’s a rumor going around today that something happened with Christian Greenhill and Ivy Cooper; have you heard about it?"
Reid Nelson was very calm as she said, "I’ve heard a bit, they say the two were caught in bed during a raid, and now Mr. Spencer must be feeling uneasy. He won’t protect Ivy Cooper as he did before, do you think she can still secure her promotion after this happens? Ha ha."
Listening to Reid Nelson’s response and feeling her satisfaction, a flash of realization came over Peter: this incident couldn’t have been the work of Theodore Smith; it was most likely Reid Nelson’s doing, orchestrated through some means.
This woman was not simple at all!
After hanging up from their brief phone call, the more Peter thought about it, the more convinced he became that this incident was Reid Nelson’s handiwork. Just yesterday, hadn’t she shown her displeasure about Ivy Cooper possibly getting promoted? She probably felt threatened by the possibility of Ivy Cooper’s elevation to a position of power.
It made sense!
Now Peter had figured it out—this incident had obviously been engineered by Reid Nelson, a move that was both strategic and venomous.
