Chapter 1556: Chapter 1555: Private Battle_1

In the afternoon at work, Peter Brown noticed that both women seemed preoccupied with their thoughts. Seeing this, he understood that Reid Nelson indeed had her own sources of information and probably knew about Edward Ford’s situation as well.

When Ivy Cooper went to the Health Room, Reid Nelson suddenly looked up at Peter Brown and said, "We don’t need to do that for now."

Peter just nodded his head.

He understood that Reid Nelson’s aspiration to rise in the chaos was now shattered. It was pointless to bring down Vincent Clinton now, and he guessed she would go and get those things herself in secret.

After all, he had never intended to deal with that evidence, so Peter actually felt relieved.

Usually, Ivy Cooper would listen to music when she came to work, but today was different. She sat there as if lost in thought.

The rumors in the office circulated quickly, and from the quiet discussions, Peter was aware that the incident involving Henry Ford last night had spread. He just didn’t know what kind of attitude Henry Ford’s wife would take.

The thought of Henry Ford’s wife’s possible reaction struck a chord in Peter, and he looked over at the two beauties. He sensed an opportunity; if Henry Ford’s wife made a fuss, could it lead to Henry Ford being ousted?

Peter found that, after reading so many books on officialdom and office politics, his mind was filled with schemes.

Wait, Vincent Clinton!

Suddenly, he remembered that Vincent Clinton hadn’t come to work all day. Could that guy be working on this right now?

Realizing this, Peter knew he had to find a way to get his hands on Vincent Clinton’s evidence.

Using the excuse of having something to attend to, Peter once again went to the construction site. After finding his uncle, he pulled Archie Williams aside and whispered, "Uncle, what kind of person is Edward Ford’s wife?"

"His wife? I heard she’s a real tigress, living in the provincial capital. Edward Ford hardly ever goes back home."

"Uncle, there could be trouble!"

"What happened?" Archie Williams asked anxiously.

"Uncle, it’s a critical time for Edward Ford. The Higher-Ups are looking for his flaws. His mistress’ affair has already spread throughout the company in secret. If someone brings his wife here to make a scene, won’t that give The Higher-Ups an excuse?"

"You think?"

"Even if this matter isn’t significant, Edward Ford’s affair is certainly real. If someone in the leadership insists on holding onto this issue, do you think Edward Ford can still sit in his current position?"

Slapping his thigh, Archie Williams exclaimed, "Now that you mention it, there is a possibility. Good lad, you even thought of that. This really isn’t good."

"Uncle, you’re close with Edward Ford. You should call him to warn him, so he’s not caught off-guard and ends up in trouble."

Archie Williams nodded vigorously, "Right, I’ll call him right away. Anyway, we’ll do what we can to help him."

Archie Williams then made a call to Henry Ford.

After the call, Archie Williams smiled and said, "It’s all good now. Edward Ford says he knows."

Shaking his head, Peter realized that recently he had really been acting on behalf of others, and he didn’t know if there would be any benefits for him after all this.

After handling the matter, Peter’s life returned to normal. As he looked around the offices, it was evident that everyone was restless, guessing at what might happen.

In fact, the news of Henry Ford’s impending downfall had already spread, and everyone had long been speculating about it. Today, noticing that several leaders were absent, the speculations became even more abundant.

What Peter didn’t expect was that the two beauties in the office made no moves and sat quietly as if the affair had nothing to do with them.

Sitting in the office, Peter found that Christian Greenhill was very active. He had already reached the provincial capital to meet with Theodore Smith, and it was unknown what they had discussed in secret. All Peter knew was that Christian Greenhill had called to arrange a meeting with Theodore Smith.

After a while, Peter heard Christian Greenhill talking on the phone with Vincent Clinton.

"Old Qin, things haven’t gone as we planned. How are things with you?"

"I had someone deliver some photos to Old Hadley’s wife, and boy is she impulsive. She immediately called her brother to come to County Town to catch the cheaters, but who knew she’d turn back halfway. I think Old Hadley must’ve persuaded her."

"Old Qin, the news I’ve received isn’t looking good for us. Hadley has started to make his move; he wants to get rid of us both. Mr. Taylor is backing him, and we’ve got serious problems. We need to think this through."

"Yes, we have to play our trump card."

"Didn’t Cameron from Finance get his hands on something? It’s time for you to bring it out."

Hearing Christian Greenhill ask Vincent Clinton to bring out what he had received, Peter’s first thought was of his safe.

Vincent Clinton said, "Alright, after you come back tomorrow, I’ll give it to you."

"At this point, we need to be on the same page. Don’t worry, I won’t let you down," Christian Greenhill reassured.

After they hung up, Peter couldn’t help but feel puzzled. They were clearly on the same level, yet Christian Greenhill spoke with an air of superiority. What other secrets were there between them?

Currently, it looked like several leaders were plotting, racing against time. Who held more leverage over whom?

Christian Greenhill probably had not only Theodore Smith backing him but likely an even more powerful patron behind the scenes as well.

Just before they were due to leave for the day, Theodore Smith called Ivy Cooper.

"Ivy, things are almost settled. Mr. Taylor intends for Vincent Clinton to be transferred. Christian Greenhill has the connection with his brother-in-law, so Mr. Taylor won’t do much to him. You’ll have to make do for now, but after this blows over, you’ll go to the Management Department and take a position as Deputy Minister. I’ll help you figure out the rest."

"Theodore, I’m counting on you," Ivy’s voice carried a flirtatious and coquettish tone.

"Don’t worry, I’ll definitely help you. No problem."

After they ended the call, Ivy’s demeanor changed completely from just before, and she walked in with a smile on her face.

Reid Nelson was not in the office at this time; she was clearly out making a call as well.

Peter felt a slight regret that he hadn’t heard Reid Nelson discussing the matter with anyone.

Did they expect things to settle down just like that?

Peter thought that if things did indeed calm down, Christian Greenhill might still be around, which would continue to be detrimental to Edward Ford.

Tonight, it seemed he had to get his hands on Vincent Clinton’s stuff. He couldn’t let Christian Greenhill create chaos; stability was actually to his own benefit at the moment.
