Chapter 1557: Chapter 1556: Implication_1
The night had already deepened when Peter Brown glanced around and saw no one else outside, he proceeded towards Vincent Clinton’s office with the key he had already obtained in the office.
In fact, Vincent Clinton and Christian Greenhill shared an office space. However, as both were often busy with their matters, it was rare for them to be present at the office simultaneously. Peter had carefully thought through today’s event, understanding that even if he took evidence belonging to Vincent Clinton, Vincent would never suspect him of being behind it.
Since the Integrated Office had the keys for cleaning purposes, Peter took advantage of a moment when Reid Nelson was distracted to take the key and get a copy made outside.
Fortunately, Peter had read a wide variety of books, including some on detective work, so he was certain he wouldn’t leave any traces behind - although he also knew that even if he did take something, Vincent wouldn’t speak out about it.
What puzzled Peter the most was how Vincent would hide the key under the safe, and he couldn’t fathom how Reid Nelson knew about this.
Upon entering the office, and finding himself in a familiar environment, Peter first drew the curtains before using a small flashlight to find his way to the safe.
When he touched it, Peter couldn’t help but chuckle—without knowing about the key, even someone cleaning wouldn’t be able to find it, as Vincent had secured the key in a not-so-obvious spot with plastic tape.
Reid Nelson really had been meticulous!
All Peter could do was admire Reid Nelson for catching such a secretive detail.
Peter, wearing gloves, carefully retrieved the key, and then used the password Reid Nelson had previously mentioned to easily open the safe.
According to Reid Nelson, Vincent had a poor memory and liked to jot down important data in a notebook, and Peter guessed that Reid Nelson found the password in that notebook.
Now wasn’t the time to wonder how Reid Nelson came to know the password. Peter looked inside the safe.
Upon looking inside, Peter saw that the safe contained quite a few items, including valuable passbooks.
However, Peter’s purpose today was to find something that would be harmful to Henry Ford.
Fortunately, Peter was quick at examining items, and after flipping through the materials, he found an account book with clear records of Henry Ford’s shady dealings line by line.
Finding this, Peter knew that if he handed over the account book, Henry Ford would truly be done for.
He hadn’t expected Vincent to have such a trick up his sleeve!
After a thorough check once more, Peter took the account book out, then carefully closed the safe. On second thought, he placed the key right back where it had been, ensuring everything was exactly as it was originally before he could finally relax.
After making sure he hadn’t left any traces behind, Peter opened the curtains to their original state, switched off his cell phone, and observed from within the office for a while. Only after confirming no one was around, did he open the door and leave.
Having returned to his dormitory, Peter looked over the incriminating account book repeatedly. Initially intending to turn it over, he now lost that desire. It couldn’t be denied that Henry Ford had engaged in many unsavory activities. Even if Peter handed over the book, Ford might assume Peter had kept a backup.
Better to pretend to know nothing.
With that thought, Peter used his cell phone to photograph the contents page by page, then saved the images on his computer before destroying the content on his phone, and tore the account book to shreds. He then went out and disposed of it in several trash heaps at construction sites, only returning to the dormitory after ensuring the remains were unrecognizable as an account book.
There, now he had done almost everything that needed to be done.
Peter didn’t want to mention Cameron’s financial issue to Henry Ford. After all, it wasn’t his place to get too involved, and Ford wasn’t exactly a good person himself.
Lying in bed, Peter seriously analyzed the situation and decided it was best not to mention the account book. With no account book, this hurdle could be overcome by Ford, who would inevitably take action against those trying to frame him. It was better for Peter to stay out of it.
If Vincent discovered the account book was missing, what would he do?
Putting himself in Vincent’s shoes, Peter thought that Vincent would naturally suspect him, but given his consistently compliant demeanor, they were unlikely to focus their attention on him. So, it was more likely that suspicion would fall on Christian Greenhill or Reid Nelson and others, which could deflect their attention away from Peter.
There was a chance that Vincent might even suspect Christian Greenhill had taken it himself.
In any case, regardless of who ended up with it, Vincent certainly wouldn’t dare make a fuss, as the matter itself was secretive.
The next morning, Peter went to a stall near the entrance for breakfast before returning to the office, only to find that Henry Ford had already arrived and was heading towards his office.
"Good morning, Mr. Ford," Peter greeted him respectfully.
Upon seeing Peter, a smile appeared on Henry Ford’s face as he responded, "You’re early too."
Peter hurried into Mr. Ford’s office to start cleaning.
"Mr. Ford, I’ve heard something that might be of use to you. It seems I overheard Manager Vincent speaking with Manager Graham about some leverage in the finances, and they mentioned someone with the last name Zhou. I couldn’t catch the specifics from a distance, but I heard this a few days ago. I thought about it last night and figured it might be useful to you," Peter said.
At this, Henry Ford’s expression changed, but he then smiled and said, "Cameron, that’s very good. I’ll remember what you’ve done. Keep up the good work."
By then, two women had arrived in the office. Seeing Peter with a mop, they quickly went over to help water the plants and wipe the tables.
After returning to the office, Peter busied himself with the day’s tasks along with the two women in the Integrated Office.
Having made tea and settled down, both women seemed preoccupied and didn’t engage in idle chatter, sitting there writing and sketching out something, leaving Peter to wonder what they were up to.
Peter pretended to be oblivious, acting as if he was studying, especially pretending to be self-learning a foreign language.
It was then that Peter noticed Mr. Ford hurrying towards the finance department, his face not looking too pleased.
