Chapter 1423: Chapter 1423: Transaction_1
When Peter Brown met Reynard Johnson again, it was three days later.
"Are you sure you really want to sell for 1 billion?" Reynard Johnson asked again.
Peter Brown smiled and said, "You should be ready, right?"
"Indeed, as long as you sell, I will definitely buy. I have prepared the 1 billion already. You want to buy land, don’t you? Can this money be converted into land? I have a piece of land that can be given to you as payment, which perfectly meets your requirements."
"Where is it?"
"It is an island on the eastern part of our county, about 30,000 square kilometers in size. I’ll credit it against your 500 million; it’s yours with permanent ownership rights. Once you buy it, it becomes your private domain."
Peter knew that this place was completely different from Hua Nation; here, one could privately own their land, and the Johnson Family had been aggressively acquiring some parcels domestically.
"What happens after I buy it?" Peter Brown asked.
"We’ve established a town on that island, and the Town Chief is one of my men. Now, after you go there, naturally, you will take over as Town Chief. The place is tax-exempt, and the income is yours to control. Within 10 kilometers of the surrounding waters is your jurisdiction; you can fish freely. Also, you can form your own private military."
At this point, Reynard Johnson said, "I won’t hide the fact that there is danger: pirates often attack there, and I have basically made no profit from it."
After some thought, Peter Brown said, "This is feasible. Additionally, I need a certain authority, that is, to purchase some machinery and equipment."
"No problem at all. We, the Johnson Family, can also help you with that." Hearing Peter Brown’s agreement, a smile spread across Reynard Johnson’s face. For him, this was truly a good thing. The Johnson Family had invested a lot into this place, but due to various issues, the investment was clearly a loss. As Peter Brown wanted it, handing it over to him would only make the Johnsons happy, with no dissatisfaction at all.
Looking at Peter Brown over and over, Reynard Johnson felt he could no longer see through Peter. He really didn’t understand what Peter was thinking; neglecting profitable ventures, he opted for something that afforded no profit.
No matter, since Peter Brown was now tied to the Johnson Family, he could be considered a part of the Johnson Family’s power.
Having agreed on the terms, the contract was quickly signed in the presence of a lawyer, and thereupon, the 5% shares transferred into Reynard Johnson’s hands.
Peter Brown also received the 500 million in funds.
As both parties were satisfied with the transaction, Reynard Johnson’s opinion of Peter Brown grew ever more favorable, and he laughed heartily, "Peter, from now on, you have full authority over the island’s affairs. You can appoint officials if you wish, or handle matters yourself if you prefer not to appoint anyone."
Peter Brown replied, "Let’s just maintain the status quo for now. I’ll decide on the next step after I understand the local situation better."
The Johnson Family’s influence was tremendous, and the appointment of Peter Brown as Town Chief of Rising Sun Island was expedited swiftly. The official appointment document was issued.
Peter Brown didn’t have trusted followers; he went to the island alone.
Now, Peter was observing the island’s conditions. It was an island surrounded by water on all sides, with not too many inhabitants—only a little over a hundred households, essentially like a private territory.
In actual fact, Peter didn’t have too many ideas; what he wanted was a piece of private land that he could develop. Many things could be done here.
Under the guidance of a middle-aged man, Peter Brown arrived on the island by a small fishing boat.
Gazing around, this was merely a backward and impoverished village. Aside from one rather nice-looking villa, there was nothing of value—no wonder the Johnsons were selling this place.
However, that was the case for the Johnsons. For Peter, the more he looked, the more content he became. The scenery was very impressive, green and pleasing to the eye.
From now on, this place is mine!
The middle-aged man leading the way, the Deputy Director of the Organization Department from the county, couldn’t comprehend why Peter Brown would abandon a lucrative place like the Fruitful Garden District and instead come here to stake his claim as king of an island.
Nonetheless, he was there to announce the decision, and naturally, he was obliged to accompany Peter.
The villagers, numbering a little over a hundred households, were quickly assembled.
Fistly, the sale of the island to Peter Brown was announced; from now on, everyone was living on Peter Brown’s land. Then, the county’s appointment was declared, making Peter Brown the Town Chief of the island.
Peter could tell that the villagers were indifferent to his arrival; there was no welcoming, nor opposition.
If this were before, Peter might have given an impassioned speech. Now, however, with a deeper understanding of the empire’s situation, he simply didn’t bother with platitudes. Looking at the villagers, he stated, "Firstly, what I want to say is this is my private territory. I have the right to allow you to live here, and I also have the right not to. So, anyone who wants to stay here must listen to me. Those who don’t obey, I will ask you to leave."
His words were domineering, and everyone was startled upon hearing them, now looking at Peter Brown seriously.
A fisherman snorted, "We’ve lived here for generations; I’ll punch anyone who dares to drive us away."
Peter’s gaze settled on the man.
"What are you looking at? What if I don’t listen to you?"
Peter now sought to display his power, considering establishing his authority, when that man spoke up. Peter said sternly, "Is there anyone else who objects? Stand out now."
As Peter’s words fell, five robust young men rose to their feet, staring at Peter and saying, "We won’t listen; what can you do about it?"
Good!
Peter then darted forward and attacked the five men.
Throwing the rulebook out the window, Peter knew this was his private territory, and if he couldn’t keep them in check, no one could. Calling the police was something Peter did not want to do.
As Peter launched his attack, the five prepared young men pounced towards him.
They too were in good spirits; they would challenge anyone who came along. No matter how strong, they would still beat the newcomer into submission.
The clash, however, astonished all watching.
They saw Peter engage directly with the five men, muscle against muscle, and each of his punches landed squarely on the young men’s chests. Furthermore, with just one punch, he could knock a man flying.
Five punches!
Everyone saw Peter throw just five blows, and all five men were already sent flying.
"Anyone else dissatisfied?"
"Drive away the outlander."
Someone shouted from the crowd, and the villagers surged towards Peter Brown.
This time, Peter was rather excited. As his body flashed among the crowd, he had already plunged into their midst.
