Chapter 61: A Very Fit Fifteen Year Old

Hearing Han Yu’s words, Xu Qing wondered if he was just exaggerating or not. Sure, there were many disciples in the sect that could do the same, but these were people who had been training for a long time and had a higher cultivation.

No beggar would be able to do the same.

’Unless the beggar was a strong expert too,’ Xu Qing thought to herself.

Another thing she found strange was the fact that the ’beggar’ taught such a skill to Han Yu just for some food and wine.

"Did you take the beggar as your master?" Xu Qing asked.

"Hell no!" Han Yu shook his head. "No way I’m taking the ghost of a man as my master. And he didn’t want to either."

"Hmmm." Xu Qing found it even more strange. ’Most people wouldn’t teach such good skills unless they were taking the other person as their disciple. And yet he taught for something as simple as food and wine... Did he perhaps see his talent too?’ she couldn’t help but wonder.

But at the same time, she felt a bit relieved.

’It’s a good thing I managed to snatch him. Otherwise, there’s a great chance he might’ve eventually taken him as a disciple. He probably intended to do that later,’ Xu Qing reckoned.

If the man did, she might have lost out on her rewards.

"The next round will begin in thirty minutes," Elder Nie Jing announced, which brought Xu Qing out of her thoughts.

She felt the gaze of the elder on her and gave him a slight bow.

’Looks like he’s taken an interest in Han Yu,’ Xu Qing thought. ’Good, the higher his value, the better merits I’ll get.’ She felt happy.

Now there were just five recruits left surviving, and the next round was going to be quite short. Elder Nie Jing called over the disciples who had brought the surviving recruits, including Xu Qing, to discuss something.

Han Yu watched and wondered what they were talking about. A few minutes later, Xu Qing returned and stood with a complex gaze.

"What is it?" Han Yu asked.

"There are just five recruits left, so the order of matches will be different from before," Xu Qing replied.

"How so? Or do you mean that someone will be left out?" Han Yu asked.

With uneven numbers, there could only be two fights, with one person either having to wait or do something else.

"They’re going to draw lots, and those who get picked will have to fight. The last remaining person will get to sit this one out," Xu Qing replied.

"Oh wow, that means if I get the winning lot, I get a free pass," Han Yu was happy.

He waited for a few minutes, looking forward to the results.

’Will I be lucky again?’ Han Yu wondered.

He watched as the disciples were called over again while the Elder asked them to pick out sticks from a small container.

The Elder checked the sticks before announcing the matches.

"Recruits Gao Ren, She Ming, Fan Lian and..." Elder Nie Jing spoke, while Han Yu watched with rapt attention.

’Not me, not me, not me.’ There were just two names left now, Han Yu and Murong Xie, who were both looking at each other.

They were both wondering if they would be the lucky one.

And just when Han Yu felt like luck was in his favor, the elder finished his words.

"Han Yu," the elder stated.

"Dammit." Han Yu cursed, seeing that he got picked.

Murong Xie, on the other hand, smirked.

"They’re not worth my time anyway," the boy muttered to himself.

SIGH

Letting out a breath, Han Yu stepped forward, wondering who his opponent was. Among the names that were called out, he only knew two of them, She Ming and Fan Lian.

She Ming was the only girl who had managed to come this far, while Fan Lian was another boy who seemed to have come from a good clan and wore green robes. Gao Ren, though, was unknown to Han Yu, and he hadn’t seen any of his fights either, as they had ended early.

"Gao Ren and Han Yu, step towards the first ring. She Ming and Fan Lian will step towards the second ring!" Elder Nie Jing announced.

Han Yu stepped forward and finally saw his opponent. But when he saw him, he halted in his tracks.

"What the hell?" Han Yu’s eyes went wide. "What the fuck is that?" he asked, pointing at the boy... or rather, the man.

Standing in front of Han Yu was a person who was nearly two heads taller than him. His torso was bare, and he only wore some pants. His muscles bulged and were visible to everyone. His arms were twice as thick as Han Yu’s legs, and the man looked at least four times as heavy as Han Yu.

"He’s my opponent?" Han Yu asked. "Are you sure you all are not mistaken?" he asked, but no one spoke.

"Hey! That’s not a recruit! He’s not even a child! He looks like a twice-divorced father of six kids!" Han Yu said out loud.

"What the fuck!" Gao Ren shouted. "I’m fifteen!"

"Fifteen my foot! If you’re fifteen, then the Elder is a corpse!" Han Yu said, making everyone gasp.

Elder Nie Jing, who had not expected that sudden jab at him, watched with wide eyes.

The disciples were the same, while Xu Qing clenched her fist. Partly in anger and partly in embarrassment.

"Han Yu!" Xu Qing said in a cold voice.

"Boy! Watch your words!" Elder Nie Jing also scolded.

"Forgive me, Elder!" Han Yu quickly realized his mistake. "But there must be a mistake. How’s this person just fifteen years old? Just look at him!" Han Yu pointed with both hands.

"I am fifteen, though." Gao Ren said while flexing his muscles. "A very fit fifteen-year-old."

Han Yu, though, was not buying it at all.

"He is fifteen." The disciple who was in charge of Gao Ren stated. "We tested his bone age."
