Chapter 868: Section 573: Conflict (Part 4)
Returning to the other side of the street corner, Malin caught the special rifle that Fio pulled out of its space, glanced at the gap in the magazine to confirm the number of bullets, and then hung the bullet belt loaded with six magazines around his waist.
The machine gun platform ceased firing and began to move forward; Tuojin said goodbye to Malin and led his platoon to follow behind the platform.
Malin activated the teleportation channel, stepped into it, and a second later appeared atop the bell tower that had its top blown off. He kicked a half-human that pounced towards him off the bell tower and reversed the butt of his gun to knock over another middle-aged man who tried to get up.
Standing amidst the rubble, Malin turned his gaze to the young man lying on the ground, faintly breathing.
"Kareem Dole Vince, I remember awarding you a medal. I understand your loyalty to your family," Malin knelt on one knee beside the young man, gave him a Healing Spell, which couldn’t heal his shattered lower body, but at least made him feel a bit better.
"Yes, sorry... Your Excellency... I, I must... protect my family..." the young man struggled to speak while coughing up blood, he raised his hand that was missing most of its palm, but ultimately couldn’t complete his salute. Malin held his slipping hand and placed it on his chest.
Turning around, Malin who pulled a revolver from the young man’s waist aimed the gun at the man covered in debris, with ears still bleeding, who had completely lost his senses and was struggling to crawl towards him.
"Kareem... my child..." he called out the young man’s name until Malin pulled the trigger, ending the man’s suffering.
Putting the revolver, which was originally awarded to outstanding serving soldiers, back onto the young man’s chest, Malin stood on the edge of the bell tower, looking down upon the entire manor. Members of the Dole Vince family determined to resist were charging up the small defensive wall of the manor, and some were pushing an old muzzle-loaded mortar, hoping to get it onto the wall’s gun platform.
A good idea, but until the machine gun fired again sweeping across the entire side of the main gate wall, they still hadn’t managed to get the mortar up.
They finally gave up and turned the mortar towards the gate.
But they were disappointed again as soldiers blasted the wall directly open with demolition plates, soldiers with semi-automatic rifles rushed into the breach, and the gunners exposed to the side were taken down by a volley of dense gunfire in an instant.
Then, spreading out rapidly in front of the gunfire coming from the three-story manor in the distance, smoke grenades helped them. Eventually, they dragged five wounded soldiers out of the breach, and the machine gun platform entered through the broken main gate, leveled its twin-linked guns, and targeted the enemies using furniture as cover. The 20mm machine gun shattered everything along its trajectory.
Some of Malin’s soldiers took advantage of the diversion of the machine gun platform’s attention to once again enter the breach. With smoke grenades as cover, they successfully reached the bottom of the three-story manor house, a blind spot not visible from the windows. By this time the walls on both sides had been blasted open, more soldiers rushed in, their entrance finally drew the attention of those inside the three-story manor house, and it was at this moment, the soldiers who were in the blind spot stood out. The Dwarven Flame Soldiers with tanks on their backs sprayed flames into the rooms from the outside, and while bringing about wailing, the machine gun platform stretched its legs, flattened the machine gun, and began to sweep across the entire second floor.
After firing two rounds, the machine gun platform began to reload its ammunition belt, and the soldiers entered the large house—they formed several teams, two teams of half-elf units climbed to the roof using the Spider Walk Technique, and then they simultaneously created breaches on the walls, windows, doors, and ceiling with demolition plates and Spell Formations, followed by clearing their path with grenades, flamethrowers, and shotguns.
It was a very standard offensive tactic taught by Malin, plain and unadorned, but highly effective against the people of this era.
Members of the Dole Vince family inside the large house clearly had no experience dealing with this method of attack, their resistance was futile, and in the end, the soldiers dragged out hundreds of enemy corpses and captives.
Only fifteen unlucky ones were carried out—the metal bulletproof chest plates, enhanced with Spell Formations, attached to their chests and the fragment-proof panels in front of their helmets effectively reduced the casualty rate for indoor combat, but this didn’t mean they were invulnerable to guns and blades.
Pleased with the soldiers’ performance, Malin jumped down from the bell tower.
Some soldiers dragged the surviving members of the Dole Vince family down from the defensive wall—bodies weren’t dragged because those who were less fortunate were mostly beyond piecing back together, like those at the bell tower.
"We’ve got twenty-four men injured," Tuojin came over, his beard slightly curled, looking like the recent attack nearly obliterated both his beard and face.
"I’ve said it, commissars shouldn’t lead the charge," Malin glanced at the young man, meanwhile, thinking wasn’t it twenty-three people injured: "By the way, where’s your commander?"
"The commander’s been shot, in an alley outside, by some gang kid who thought he was here to raid, took a bullet in the abdomen, another one hit the bulletproof plate but didn’t penetrate. The soldiers following him killed everyone in that warehouse, seems like it was a local gang, I had the platoon leader of Alpha Company take some people to handle it."
