Chapter 1008: Section 651: The Caucasus Journey (Part 2)

Because the fleet required substantial supplies, they planned to rest in Tbilisi for a week to replenish the spent ammunition and provisions. At the same time, many things would be loaded onto the ships, giving Malin the chance to further explore this land.

To think that in his past life he never left his homeland, yet now he had to take a long boat ride back from Europe just to see it once... Humans, as a lifeform, truly are a bizarre existence.

Speaking of which, according to the leader named Wanda, across the river in Sagarezao City, there was another Skinless leader who, like him, had once listened to the teachings of the Sage. If Malin wanted to pay a visit, he could provide war dogs.

The war dogs were large Sherlock war dogs. Though they were northern breeds, they thrived well in this mountainous and frigid region.

"Given by the Lord of Justice?"

"They taught us how to train these war dogs. These are all wild local dogs we’ve trained ourselves." The leader Wanda said this, giving Malin a knowing smile. "After all, we’re friends."

"Yes, that’s right." Since the Church of the Lord of Justice was willing to reasonably assist these zombies, Malin had no reason not to offer help as well.

That evening, Malin sought out Mr. Meng, who said he would communicate with the diplomatic department upon returning to Thainan.

To this, Malin responded with understanding: "I know, with such a large and complex operation, sometimes even your words don’t carry absolute weight."

"Of course, Mr. Malin. I’m merely a counselor; the delegation isn’t under my sole command. But I believe that even if you were to act on this, there’s little our people could do against you. After all, offending a Legendary figure is not something any rational person would dare." Mr. Meng’s words made Malin understand the situation.

That night, Malin found a reasonably intact vacant building. After selecting a relatively complete room, he set up safety precautions and arranged it with furniture he borrowed from Lady Katerina. When he completed the setup, Matilda gazed at the arrangement with a tinge of curiosity. "Did humans before the Great Destruction Era decorate like this? Apart from the appearance... This bed is so soft!"

The massive-tailed fox leapt onto the bed joyfully, delighting in the softness enveloping her. "Humans before the Great Destruction Era really knew how to enjoy life."

Malin lay down beside her. "Indeed, humanity as a lifeform strives for a better life—that’s the essence of their effort."

As he said this, Malin turned his head and saw that the fox had already fallen asleep.

She must be really tired.

Malin thought to himself, taking the Fox Girl into his arms. It’s time to sleep. Tomorrow, they had to visit that place called Sagarezao.

......

Malin was jolted awake from his dream by the sound of artillery fire.

Upon getting up, he found himself reduced in size, and the room’s arrangement entirely changed. Even the lights were now functional.

Matilda was nowhere to be seen, but considering he was in deep dive mode, Malin donned a sleeping robe that was too large for him and jogged to the window. Pulling open the heavy curtains— even the room had changed.

Before his eyes stretched the dusk-lit Tbilisi. Looking out from the floor-to-ceiling windows, it appeared that this place was situated on high ground. From the window facing south, the Kura River was visible, and the terraced city scattered along both banks.

However, what Malin saw was a stark white tide of zombies surging southward from the riverside, while on the other side, the soldiers of the Earth Union struggled to fend off these white horrors from an unknown origin.

Malin noticed that, on the northern bank in some areas, a few zombies had already crossed the river.

They were devouring everything.

"Do you truly intend to help them, Malin?" A voice rang out within the room.

Malin turned to see a girl dressed in an old-fashioned school uniform.

Strangely enough, this girl gave Malin a profound sense of familiarity. He couldn’t place why, but despite this sense, there was no trace of her in his memory. He didn’t know her name, nor who she was.

"Malin, I am the Goddess of Fate." The girl smiled and answered.

Malin nodded—alright, the Goddess of Fate. In Malin’s view, she surely possessed some unique ability that made everyone who saw her feel both familiar and strange.

But why couldn’t he remember her? Malin was puzzled, though his bigger question lay in the appearance of the Goddess of Fate herself.

"Why are you here?" he asked, looking at the deity before him, as he didn’t think he had any complicated interactions with the Goddess of Fate.

"Have you considered that by helping them, you’re aiding beings who once were accomplices in Chaos’s destruction of humanity?" The Goddess of Fate stepped to the window. As her divine power took effect, time in the world came to a standstill.

Malin pondered briefly and chose to speak truthfully: "They were created by humans. Humans fashioned countless lives—among them, orcs, elves, dwarves, and half-humans and gnomes. In that era, humanity was as mighty as deities. But what of humanity itself? Their desires, their greed—those were the real causes of their destruction. My Goddess, look at the root of all this. Weren’t the Evil Gods summoned by humans their own doing? Do you truly believe humanity has the right to place all blame on the tools they themselves created?"
