Chapter 50: Fiery Fury
[Jade’s POV]
"When did Riley start getting bothered by that weakling?" Sil asked after Ethan had dragged Leo away.
"Hell if I know," Jade replied, lost in thought. It doesn’t seem right to him either but there was nothing he could do since it was his brother involved. Nobody dared cross Riley’s path, not even his siblings. He might appear cool and friendly at times but he was a strict person when one goes against his rule.
"Anyways, it’s the weekend, we have to go to the gaming booth outside the academy. We’re going 1v1 today, and I promise to teach you some valuable life lessons, aha," Sil said.
Jade heard him quite right but he just stood there with his head bowed, still lost in deep thought. Some anger was welling inside of him and he couldn’t explain why.
"Jade? Did you hear me?" Sil asked, concerned for his friend.
His thoughts reeled back. "Yes, I did. I’d love to teach you some lessons myself but I don’t think I’ll be going with you today, Sil. You can go with Shaw and the others."
Sil wasn’t convinced with Jade’s reply. He knew something about that weakling, Leo was bothering Jade, but he wasn’t willing to ask Jade about it just yet. He recently got snapped at for attacking the boy and he didn’t want that to happen again. He never understood when Jade became so soft as to start getting worried about a weakling. They have both dealt with weaker, stronger and even cockier people since childhood, and Sil saw no reason why Leo’s case was different. Jade has always promised to deal with Leo, but up till now, he’s been hesitant to raise his hand to him. All these was what Sil knew to be bothering Jade, but there wss no point asking about it now. So, Sil decided to let go. There’ll surely be a better time.
"Okay Jade. I’ll go by myself. I’ll thrash Shaw for you, I promise," Sil said happily, jumped over to the door and went out.
Jade immediately resumed his bothered thoughts as soon as Sil was out. He has finally arrived at a conclusion in his mind, and it all pointed to the fact that Riley doesn’t know about what was happening to Leo today.
It was only yesterday he discussed briefly with Riley and he didn’t mention anything about Leo to him. They only talked about how to keep Rosa in check to stop her from denting the family’s image any further. There was no way Riley would send his mates to get Leo without informing Jade about it
Yes, Riley wasn’t involved.
Instantly, Jade ran into his room to ask the AI device by his bedside to show him the direction to the training center since he hasn’t been there yet. The device did as instructed but informed Jade that he needed to have gotten a pass in order to gain entrance into the training room. Jade didn’t bother much about that. He thought he’ll find a way to get in somehow.
He stormed out of his room again into the living room, and out the door of the VIP dorm 1. Jade wished the elevator was faster as he traveled down to the first floor.
"Wait till I get you, Ethan... Nobody can punish him except me," Jade said to himself in the el.
The el finally landed and Jade dashed out as soon as the door slid open. In the lobby, he ran past Sil and the others he was going to the gaming booth with. "Don’t follow me," Jade said as he ran past them, but he knew Sil wouldn’t listen. He was running to fast not to get anybody’s attention not to talk of Sil’s.
A few turnings left and right as the AI advised, and Jade was at the entrance of the training center. He pushed the button to open the door but it wouldn’t open. A tiny computerized voice filtered out and said,
[Training Pass Not Available For Jaden Morningbolt]
[Visit The Staff Quarters To Get A Pass]
Jade punched the air with fury. Just then, the door slid open for a second-year student who was trying to come out of the training hall. Jade seized this chance and immediately pushed the boy back before squeezing himself in before the door closes on him.
The voice at the door rang out an intrusion alert and a warning.
[Jaden Morningbolt, You Will Be Punished For Unauthorized Entry]
Jade knew that the alert must have sounded among the security men now and they’ll come running into the hall any moment from now but he couldn’t care less. He had gotten in already, and he must finish what be started before getting caught.
Jade saw how large the hall was and he couldn’t believe his eyes. His eyes darted back and forth in search of a cluster of boys. To his left, he saw that the hall was well crowded and everyone was busy with the training bots. But the right side of the hall was silent even though he couldn’t see the whole area at once. He knew that was the right place Ethan would have chosen to carry out his evil task, so Jade ran to the right side of the hall which was secluded.
He saw a raised platform higher than the rest. With his fire quirk, he propelled himself upward with a great momentum and landed on the platform. After landing, he looked down to further scan the area...and there they were— five of them including Leo.
Jade searched for a blond hair among the boys, and as he expected, Riley wasn’t present with them. He was thinking of how to get down there fast enough when he saw Ethan land a sick punch on Leo with so much force that he could hear the loud thud of Leo’s body against the floor and the cry of anguish coming from him.
Jade’s blood boiled with fury.
He then say Leo being raised off the floor by one of the seniors and he was being pushed towards Ethan for another punch. This was when Jade’s self control took levee of him. He just had to act.
Before going in on them, Jade knew he had a poor chance of beating the four of those seniors in a fair fight, but he also knew he had a few advantages over them. He could launch a silent first attack from above and still continue the fight while propelling himself upward away from their reach but he knew he stay up in the air with his fire quirk for long. And also, if he was to face Ethan in a 1v1, he has more chances of winning than not even though he lacks the experience the seniors have currently.
He knew Ethan to possess the Hardening quirk. He can make any part of his body suddenly become hard enough to withstand a massive attack, and this quirk was also good both in attacking and defending. Ethan’s fusts are always hardened when he was attacking... And when he was defending, he hardens the part of the body the opponent’s attacks are aimed at. But Jade knew just how well to handle Ethan if it comes to it. Ethan can harden a few of his body parts but not his whole body, so maybe not giving him a hint of where the attacks are targeted will help defeat the Rocky Monster Ethan.
As for the other seniors, Jade has no idea how to deal with them since he doesn’t even know what they can do.
But also, Jade knew he has a trump card against them all... And that was the fact that he was a Morningbolt and Riley’s brother. If Ethan ever attacked Jade, then he would need a really good explanutim to give Riley.
So, here goes nothing...
Jade jumped off the high platform, unbothered about the distance to the floor. As he dropped, he started building energy up in both his hands. When he was about to hit the ground, he swung both his arms downwards straight in the midst of the gathered boys, not caring whether he’s saving or hurting Leo or anybody at all.
The dim hall immediately went up in in a bright orange glow as Jade activated his fire quirk and sent it hurling downwards.
It landed in a very loud bang. The area was partially covered in flames and thick black smoke. Even Jade saw nothing else as he slowed his landing with his quirk like a space rocket with hot fire at the bottom.
Blinded with fury, Jade yelled at them all. "He is my pet, not yours. He is mine to punish!"
