Chapter 49: Broken Bones and... wait, Jade?!

And that explains why Jose didn’t suffer a scratch when Ethan punched his face earlier. Jose is an exceptional healer. During his time as a freshman at the academy, where he was taken to the hospital wing for the healing quirk test, he emerged the best healer out of all the freshmen that year even to the amazement of Miss Charlotte of the hospital wing. The woman had opened her mouth wide that Jose had almost equalled her healing quirk score when she was also a fresher. She then promised Jose that he is welcome under her tutorship henceforth. For all anyone knows, Jose was the only person that has ever gotten on Miss Charlotte’s good side.

Jose would have gotten an A-rank that day if not for a slight mistake he did during the final test, but even the B was enough to impress Miss Charlotte. He was one of those few to be born with a quirk, because both his parents are mutants with the healing quirk, and when Jose was born, he took up the ability earlier and quite easily. Being a mutant since birth, he didn’t travel to Luxus with the other kids for mutation even though the Earth’s Council advices people born with quirks to at least travel to Luxus with the others. Who knows, they might actually get mutated again and acquire another quirk, maybe an active one, to make them a Double-Wonder.

Ethan commanded Jose to heal Leo and that was what he was about to do. Jose placed the tip of his finger on Leo’s disfigured mouth and activated his quirk. On a normal, Jose didn’t need to activate his quirk before heading minor injuries, but Leo’s case here was different. His face has been ruined and almost half his teeth hs been shattered. And worse still, he appeared unconscious.

Few seconds later, Leo opened his eyes. His teeth has been grown right back and his twisted jaw became straightened all thanks to Jose. He didn’t remember what happened at first, not until he raised his head and saw Ethan looking down at him with a wicked grin. His fist was balled and ready again to serve Leo another round of pain.

"I won’t ask you again. Why did you disobey Riley and drag Rosa into your mess? Was he too patient with you?"

Leo’s best and was clear now and he knew that Ethan wasn’t here to get any answer from him. He only wanted to bully him until he breaks. His questions does not require an answer, so there was no way Leo was going to directly answer that even if he was to be truthful. Either he serves a decent answer or not, Ethan only wanted to beat him up, break more of his bones, heal the broken bones with Jose, and repeat the process until only heavens know when.

Leo tried to get up on his feet but got kicked back down by one of the seniors who have been quiet all along.

"You don’t want an answer, Ethan," Leo said lazily. "I’ll just stay here and receive your punishments till you’re satisfied. I know that’s what you want."

Furious, Ethan yelled, "you chattering bastard," as he swept his right arm in a wide arch aiming to punch the left side of Leo’s face.

Leo saw that there was no way he could be swift enough to dodge such a fast attack but he wasn’t willing to just stand there and wait for Ethan’s fist to connect. Nobody would.

So instinctively, Leo raised his left arm to guard his face.

It was a thoughtful measure, but there was no part of Leo’s body that was strong enough to stop Ethan’s massive punches. The fist whipped in hard and fast and smashed the long bone of Leo’s left arm. The bone twisted and snapped in his flesh, and instantly, Leo’s left arm was bent in an awkward and horrific angle. Leo screamed.

The pain was too unbearable for him so he staggered sideways to Jose. At least that was their plan...breaking his bones and healing it.

"Please, stop the pain," he cried. Jose stretched his hand sullenly to grab Leo’s, but Ethan stopped him.

"No, don’t heal him now, Jose. Let him feel it more. He must remember this for a long time never to mess with Riley."

Leo fell on the ground, writhing in deep pain. He immediately regretted his attempt at blocking Ethan’s punch. He didn’t know how he got to hit so hard but he knew it has to be something about his quirk, though he never heard of any quirk that enables one to hit someone so hard.

Leo felt if he had just let the punch hit his face, his head would have taken the blow more badly but at least he’d have lost consciousness again and won’t feel this pain after being revived. The pain coursing through his arm right now was unbearable.

The other seniors except Jose laughed as Leo made funny nosies while wailing on the floor. Ethan signaled to one of them and the one with the jet black hair stepped forward. His name was Phil, and he was mutated to make objects move and float by just moving his hands...in other words, telekinesis.

Phil already knew why Ethan signaled to him so he set to work at once. Phil stretched both his hands in Leo’s direction and his weak body started floating in the air. Of course, telekinesis here doesn’t really work on people during combat since the opponent will stay strong and firm and easily resist the floating force. One can only control other lifeless objects to attack the opponent. But once the opponent has been subdued and doesn’t have enough strength to fight the telekinetic force, the quirk can then work on them and make them float in whatever direction the user wishes...and this was the case with Leo here. He was not doing anything to resist Phil’s quirk, since his broken arm was taking a huge toll on him... So, float he shall.

Phil moved his hand in Ethan’s direction and Leo started floating straight towards Ethan.

Ethan got his fist ready once again with mischievous grin. He was prepared to smash Leo back with another of his monster punches.

But as soon as Leo was within striking distance to Ethan’s reach, a bright light blinded him partially and almost immediately, a loud bang went up in their midst.

Leo dropped to the floor as Phil had lost control of him after the fiery encounter just now. He didn’t raise his head to see what was happening since there was no even anything he could see if he tried. The whole part of the training hall where they stood was covered in hot flames and thick black smoke. But he heard a voice that he couldn’t mistake for nobody else, yelling out a familiar line he heard a few minutes ago...

"He is my pet, not yours. He is mine to punish!"

"Jade?!" Leo’s head reeled.
