Chapter 51: Jade’s Perfect Time

The corner was in complete chaos. Leo stood up from the ground to get a good glimpse of what really happened even when he has a rough idea it can only be caused by Jade. The thick black smoke is getting thinner by the minute and he could see the aftermath of Jade’s brutality. As he stood up, the pain in his left arm worsened, so he started looking for Jose through the harmless black smoke. Yes, it was harmless... A fire quirk doesn’t really deal the same damage that a real fire does. Even if Jade launched more of those attacks on the wooden parts of this hall, it wouldn’t burn it the same way a fire does, though constant exposure to the fire quirk as a human is just as dangerous to one as a real fire.

First, he saw the senior who possessed the telekinesis quirk writhing in pain with his leg clutched in his hand. Of course, it is not Leo’s concern. To his left, Ethan was already getting up on his feet. He had managed to notice Jade from above at the last second, and he had managed to harden as many upper parts of him as possible before the attack hits, so he hasn’t taken much damage as expected.

The air finally cleared and Leo could see Jade now. He was standing close to Ethan with his head bowed and the fire burning in his hard fist. Leo didn’t need anyone to tell him that Jade was at his angriest now. Even he was a little scared of him at this present state. He was already planning his escape from this looming trouble, but as soon as another round of intense pain took over his broken arm, he remembered he had to find Jose first. He couldn’t afford to endure this pain till he got to Miss Charlotte at the hospital wing.

"What do you think you’re doing, Ethan?" Jade screamed, to the fear of everyone. "Can you defend yourself well if Riley hears about this? Why did you lie that he needs Leo?"

Ethan rose to his feet, breathing hard also with rage, but he was resisting himself despite his anger. "Can’t you see that we’re doing this for you and your brother’s sake? You never should allow this rat meddle with the mighty Morningbolt."

"And when did you become a Morningbolt? When did Riley order you to decide for him? When did you start using my family’s name to punish people that wasn’t yours to punish?" Jade fumed. The fire in his hands blew more fiercely. The other two seniors except Jose have scrambled over behind Ethan. They knew they stood no chance against Jade right now unless they decide to attack at once if it comes to it.

But Jose wasn’t thinking like that. He didn’t bother getting scared of Jade or anyone. Matter of fact, he never feared anyone, though he was never cocky or rude too. He never needed to fear anyone since he always knew how to take punches and other quirk attacks. Up till now, he hasn’t met anyone who could deal him so much damage that his instant healing quirk won’t withstand. He even has a secret move where he activates his quirk even before his attacker hits him, so when those attacks finally hit, he won’t even feel it, and the damage dealt will be reduced by a large percentage, but it also depends on how strong the attacker is.

Instead of cowering behind Ethan like the other two seniors, Jose just decided to leave quietly. Leo seeing that the healer was leaving, decided to run after him, but it was at the same time Jade noticed Jose leaving out of the corner of his eyes. His rage was still there so, he couldn’t think straight again. Everything looked like a threat to him right now.

"Where do you think you’re going?!" Jade yelled. As soon as he said that, he turned away from Ethan and faced Jose who was being followed by Leo.

"I’m going back to my dorm," Jose replied simply.

Without giving him a breathing space, Jade launched another reckless attack at the boy. This time, it was fireballs.

Gathering some energy in his hands, Jade pushed his arms backwards as soon as he was sure of how much damage he meant to deal. He wasn’t going to waste his energy on frail Jose...There was still Ethan and the rest to deal with. However, even these little balls of fire were enough to stop Jose. Who wouldn’t believe that, seeing how little and frail Jose’s appearance was. Jose’s oversized sweater sleeves were now covering the whole of his right hand, so Jade had no idea what rank Jose belonged.

"Get back here!" Jade screamed as he launched his attack. The fireballs rushed straight and fast at Jose who has his back turned already. He knew that he was being attacked even now, but there was really nothing he could do to stop the reckless freshman unless he just activates his amazing healing quirk before the fires hit, to reduce the impact of the attack on his body and also start healing himself instantly. Aside his healing quirk, he does not have any basic combat skills like the other students. He has always wanted to be a proper Healer and he has been concentrating solely on that ever since he was born. His parents had urged him to also take other classes seriously since it will help him become formidable in combat. If he knew some hand-to-hand and he can use the Beast weapons well, he can easily become a warrior with great combat skills and greater endurance and defensive skills due to his quirk. He could take on more damage with his body and at the same time have more stamina than his opponents, so he would be sure to last longer in a fight than anybody else. But whenever the Combat classes are holding, Jose never paid attention. Even when they will be asked to pick a classmate as opponent to fight, he’ll only throw out some weak punches at first, then allow his opponent beat him to satisfaction since he won’t get hurt or feel the pain after all.

Ethan smirked to himself as he saw Jade’s weak fireballs going for Jose. He knew those were too weak to even make the little boy bother.

And just as expected, Jade’s fireballs hit Jose square in the back, and again just as Ethan expected, Jose did not even stagger a bit. He continued walking out of the corner.

Jade saw how weak his attacks turned out against this apparent weakling, so he got more furious. His pride was taking a hold of him. He hates being neglected as a nobody like that. Even though this Jose was his senior, he would not back down now until he has defeated him.

Jade totally forgot about Ethan and the other two seniors, and his attention was now on Jose. "I SAID, GET OVER HERE!"

Jose stopped dead in his tracks when he heard that angry scream. He knew he has really signed up for a fight against a member of the Morningbolt family. He had tried to avoid Riley all through their school year, and he had succeeded on that. Why does his younger brother now has to be the one giving him a terrible time.

Ethan saw what the fight was turning into, so he turned to his two classmates hiding behind him. "Wait and watch what is supposed to happen to anybody that goes against a Morningbolt."

"But what should we do now, Ethan? He will surely attack us when he’s done with Jose," Phil with the telekinetic quirk said.

"We don’t have to worry about Jade now. He won’t be able to finish off Jose on time. The authorities will be here before he gets to us. What we have to worry about now is Riley. We need a very good justification for what we’ve done," Ethan replied. Phil gulped.

Jade ran at Jose. Leo who saw that Jose was now in trouble, quickened his slow pace in order to catch up with them. He didn’t know if he could stop this, but he was going to give it a try, at least.

Jade jumped in front of Jose with a determined look. "Who do you think you are?!" he roared. Jose said nothing, but he was not intimidated at the same time. He has faced more brutal people from his class than Jade, and as a senior, he was not going to be scared of a freshman just because he is a Morningbolt.

Leo finally caught up with them and immediately went to Jose’s side. The look on Jade’s eyes was really intimidating, but now is not the time to be scared of his roommate even if this was the best time to be scared of him. First, Leo needs to get healed. He placed his better arm on Jose’s shoulder as if he needs support. A very soothing feeling washed down his spine and he felt a slight tingle in his damaged arm, like it was healing already. However, Jose hasn’t even activated his quirk to heal him yet. It was just the healing aura of Jose that was soothing Leo. Doing this, Leo’s arm won’t get healed but the pain will subside and he will feel alright again. But Leo thought he was getting healed already, so he continued to rest his hand on Jose’s shoulder.

"Jade, you need to stop. Jose is not the one who attacked me. It was Ethan and the other two seniors," Leo explained, hoping this will make Jade see reason to stop his anger.

But...

"Who are you to think you can stop me? Do you think I’m here to receive commands from you? Do you think I’m a fool as well just because I’ve been patient with you up till now?!" Jade raged.

"No...no...I only..." Leo was confused.

"I see now is the perfect time I’ve been waiting for," Jade said. "Leo Rayden... FIGHT ME!"
