Chapter 47: Unfazed Leo

Things returned to normal the very next day after Venn decided to settle the case with a lie to the council.

Hunter Man, Omal, Greg, Allan and the other teachers of the secret Hope group started showing themselves after hiding for a while throughout Venn’s stay in the academy, and later on classes started as it should.

On the day Venn was leaving the academy, he ran into Leo in the lobby and stopped right in front of the boy, stared deep into him and said, "I know you’re the one she’s trying to hide. Consider yourself lucky that I didn’t get my hands on you before those rascals stopped everything, you dumbass D-ranker."

"Bye, Mr. Venn," was all Leo said as the furious detective stormed away.

Leo was indeed grateful for Rosa once again. He had heard rumours that Venn had gone crazy in the interrogation room while trying all his best to see everything in Rosa’s mind with a bnned technique. But still he couldn’t see much of the night’s incidence since Rosa had done a good job at shutting her mind tight before that, which gave the advocates enough time to step in and stop Venn from his rash Rage mode. Everyone knew those men in suits work for the Morningbolt since they saw Riley talking to one of them after they left the investigation room.

Everybody talked about these happenings but nobody worried about Rosa, not even her brothers. Riley and Jade knew that Rosa was guilty and they’ve become more furious that Rosa was getting herself involved in this kind of mess so early in her academy life. Of course, they knew Rosa to be wild but they never thought she’d be involved in something so dangerous as fighting four mecha-men during curfew hours. Riley knew there was only one reason Rosa would do that, and it was quite easy to figure out... Leo must be involved also. Rosa was most definitely trying to save Leo from those cyborgs.

So, Riley once again became interested in Leo.

Leo knew it’d get to this sooner or later, so he’s been avoiding everyone that might seem to be under Riley’s command for now. He hasn’t been sleeping in his dorm for the past two days so he wouldn’t come across Jade or Sil or both. He has been sleeping at a corner in the hallway of the VIP suite whenever he was sure everyone was fast asleep... And he’d wake up as early as possible to hide somewhere until Jade is out of the room, before sneaking back into his room to freshen up. And today, he’s doing that again.

Leo rushed into the room after he saw Jade left. After having a quick bath, he rushed out of the room again with his shirt half worn, a big snack held in his mouth his soiky hair dripping with water. Only more quick steps to get out of the dorm entirely when he saw Jade and Sil patiently waiting for him in the large living room. Leo took a deep frustrated breath and shook water off his hair. He needed nobody to tell him that he was in trouble with either Riley of Jade here.

Without saying anything, he wore his shirt properly, took a la bite off the snack in his mouth and tried to straighten his stubborn hair. Jade and Sil watched as Leo chewed heavily on the snack and act less concerned as if they were invisible to him. After a while, he swallowed and walked to the fridge for a bottle of water.

"Oh, I hate this boy," Sil said under his breath.

Jade laughed and walked close to Leo.

"If we didn’t know any better, we’d have thought you really can’t see us. You’re more cocky than that S-ranked Seven Howells," Jade said while running his red hair.

Sil cut in. "Oh, about Seven. Do you have any idea what happened to him? That boy was sick strong, not gon’ lie."

"Tch," Jade made a face. "He’s in a temporary prison for now, and I think they’re trying to make him get better with therapy, I don’t know how that’s possible. He’s been causing trouble at the Avenger’s base. He attacked Avenger Whirlwind while trying to escape, so yeah, he’s been locked up."

"Hmm, I see," Sil said.

Leo stood with his arms akimbo as he watched the two boys switch the topic from his to the crazy Seven Howells. He’d have made a run for it if they weren’t standing in front of the door.

The two friends finished their discussion and they turned towards Leo again.

"Why have you been sleeping outside for a few days now? Did you do something wrong again?" Jade asked with a smile.

Leo looked at him darkly and took another bite of the snack. He wasn’t ready for any fake chitchat with Jade or anyone. Somehow, he has grown not to fear Jade any longer. Maybe it’s because Jade has never really done him any physical harm despite his mean threats. The person he was more wary of was Sil.

And at the moment, Sil was getting infurated by Leo’s nonchalant behaviour. He was sick of the payience Jade was having towards this weakling. The Jade he knew would never even have accommodated someone like Leo into the same dorm as him, not to talk of allowing the weakling insult him with those lazy stares and unbothered attitude.

With a swift motion of his hand, Sil instantly formed a spear with his ice quirk and threw it with so much force at Leo, screaming, "stop looking at him like that, you dimwit!"

Leo who knew that the real threat was Sil and not Jade, was already on the balls of his feet. He saw the spear before it was thrown and he thought of just moving away from the ice spear. But he wanted to do more than just move away.

To hurt Sil’s pride, Leo held the bottle in his hand firmly and shifted on his feet a little, then used the bottle to deflect the ice spear to crash on the floor behind him. All was done with just a single side step with his left leg and a simple swat with the bottle in his right hand. Still, he said nothing.

Sil went red with anger at the simple way his attavk was deflected by this D-ranker. He began forming another ice spear.

Jade who was angrier yelled out, "SIL! Stop that shit right now!"
