Chapter 85: Descending Using An Apostle Avatar

After commanding his High Priests to prepare the Apostle, the 52 High Priests had already left the Noctyra Corporation but not without leaving two of them to temporarily watch over the Noctyra Corporation.

After all, the Noctyra Corporation was already considered by the Church of Evolution as part of their territory. No matter what, the advanced facility and machinery within the Noctyra Corporation made it a ready-made research laboratory so it was better for it to be owned by the Church of Evolution than abandoned or demolished.

Soon enough, the 52 High Priests arrived at the cathedral where their Lord God’s Apostle avatar was sealed inside.

When they descended on the underground floor, there was a spacious area that only had a bed situated at the upper center of the room.

On the bed, a figure was slumbering, wearing the Church of Evolution’s Apostle attire. However, unlike the usual apostle attire, the figure’s face was hidden by a white mask that didn’t have any holes for the eyes, mouth, or nose.

The 52 High Priests recognized that figure as their Lord God’s Apostle avatar.

They didn’t question whether their Lord God’s cautiousness was cowardly for a "god". They all believed that whatever their Lord God would say or do was undoubtedly the truth.

And besides, their Lord God never claimed omnipotence but promised evolution to shed away their mortal flesh into a higher form. So far, their Lord God hadn’t lied to them and they believed that even if he did, it was all for the greater good.

While waiting for their Lord God’s descent, the High Priest who had shrunken and stored those stone statues in his storage took them out.

Placing the six stone statues of those challengers neatly, they didn’t bring Dr. Elias Grimhart with him in the underground floor but instead, let him stay at the first floor.

They had known that their Lord God was only interested in those six challengers and he didn’t seem to pay special attention to Dr. Grimhart in comparison to those six.

Furthermore, they knew how unusual those six challengers were and their target seemed to be Dr. Grimhart. To ensure that there wouldn’t be any unforeseen circumstances, they dared not place those six challengers in the same room with Dr. Grimhart.

As believers of their Lord God, they also inherited his cautiousness.

With all those preparations completed, the 52 High Priests knelt on the ground towards their Lord God’s avatar, waiting for his descent.

Soon enough, they felt the consciousness of their Lord God descend on his apostle avatar, causing the figure on the bed to twitch and then move.

Getting out of bed, the apostle avatar looked at the 52 High Priest kneeling towards him his face covered by an eyeless mask.

After Ainsworth descended, he got out of the bed and received his High Priests’ worship which he accepted before shifting his attention towards the six stone statues.

Although Ainsworth was wearing a mask that covered his eyes, he could still see and perceive the world around him because he had the freedom to do so. Just this little bit of freedom didn’t cost him much to activate by using his Ultimate Freedom (SSS) skill.

’Using an avatar sure is a weird experience. Since I only descended using a fragment of my consciousness, even if this avatar is completely wiped out, it would barely harm my main body.’

’And besides, using this type of avatar descent is not cloning and is more like being in two places at once. It’s a high form of multi-tasking as I’m currently controlling two bodies at once.’

’What I’m seeing in my main body and what I’m seeing in my avatar is fed back to me at the same time. If not for the various superpowers I had, it would have been an uncomfortable and disorienting experience.’

Of course, Ainsworth could have chosen to put his main body to sleep while he was controlling the apostle avatar.

The reason why he didn’t do that was because he dared not put himself at risk. There was still a small chance that his main body would be attacked while he was oblivious to it.

And to ensure that there wouldn’t be any unforeseen problems happening, he just decided to do it the hard way since it was the safest. Additionally, he was more than capable of controlling both bodies at once.

After getting used to operating his apostle avatar, Ainsworth used his nullification superpower to remove the petrification of Fire Knight.

He had noticed that Fire Knight seemed to be the leader of the challenger team and so, he would know more information about the other challenger team as well as their mission.

He had no intentions of asking about the Main God Space since it wasn’t something that a challenger team of their level could know about. Even Edenbridge High’s library would have more information about the Main God Space than what these low-ranking challengers knew about.

When Fire Knight was no longer petrified, before he could react, Ainsworth had already used a weakening superpower to weaken Fire Knight’s power to the point that he would only be left with the energy and power to talk to him.

Furthermore, he also used a sealing superpower to seal all his movements aside from his mouth and the organs he needed to speak and live.

After ensuring that Fire Knight couldn’t pull off anything under his nose, Ainsworth interrogated him, "Where is the other challenger team?"

When Ainsworth asked about the other challenger team, Fire Knight hesitated for a while before ratting them out, "They are after the protagonist of this world. I don’t know where they headed and I don’t have intel about whose the protagonist."

Using a lie detection superpower as well as his Ultimate Freedom (SSS) skill to determine the truth and lie behind Fire Knight’s words, Ainsworth determined that he wasn’t lying.

’It seems that challengers don’t have a good relationship with each other. So this guy thinks that he and his team had already suffered, therefore he won’t allow the other team to have it easy either.’

When Ainsworth thought about that, he continued asking Fire Knight but half of those questions were to paint himself as a native of this world.

For example, he asked what he meant about the protagonist of the world, etc.

And when Ainsworth had asked about his identity as a foreigner who wasn’t from this world, Fire Knight had called himself a reincarnator from the Reincarnation Paradise.

Of course, his lie detection skill set had detected that as 100% lie.

However, Ainsworth didn’t care about why he lied since he already expected such an answer.

At least, it allowed him to discover that while Otherworlders like challengers couldn’t tell others about their identity as a challenger from the Main God Space, it was possible for them to pin the blame on other Otherworld Factions instead.

After he continued interrogating Fire Knight, he learned about the worlds he and his team had visited, as well as the worlds he visited.

When he ensured that Fire Knight truly didn’t know anything about the identity of the Zombie Apocalypse World’s protagonist, Ainsworth didn’t kill him yet.

"I’ve already asked all the questions I needed answers to. But, there is some information you know that I’m still not aware of. So, either you tell me all of them, or I’ll torture you first."

When Ainsworth spoke those words using Freedom of Speech (SSS) and God-Level Cult Leader, he made Fire Knight perceive his words as that of a lunatic native of this world who wanted to learn about the secrets of the Otherworld.

It helped that Ainsworth’s current identity was the Apostle of a cult so Fire Knight didn’t think he was lying. And besides, when Ainsworth’s words laced with insanity were heard by Fire Knight, it made it more creepy due to Ainsworth wearing an eyeless white mask that obscured his face.

Because of that, Fire Knight dared not hide any information to Ainsworth and he told him all he knew.

Fire Knight knew that he wouldn’t be able to keep his life since being a challenger would mean that he would be prepared to risk his life to complete the mission. So, to convince Ainsworth to give him a quick death, he gave all his props and items to Ainsworth.

However, most props could only be used by challengers themselves so an awakener like Ainsworth couldn’t use them. But, it wasn’t completely useless.
