Chapter 176: A severe case of ...

Damon slowly turned his head toward her, one brow twitching, the exhaustion on his face briefly overridden by utter disbelief.

"...What?"

Aurora looked like she immediately regretted asking but pushed through anyway. "I just... I’ve never seen a real vampire’s fangs before. Can I please take a teeny tiny looksie?"

Damon blinked. Then blinked again. A long silence passed between them, broken only by the wind and the distant hum of spatial distortion still gnawing away at the metallic fortress.

Finally, with a dramatic sigh, he leaned forward slightly and bared his teeth, just enough to let her see the sharp, elegant curve of his fangs gleaming under the cold light. "There. Happy now, weirdo?"

Naturally he was extremely alert at the moment to make sure that the tyrannical priestess did not pull a surprise one over him and attack him with some sort of fang poison but contrary to his thoughts nothing really happened.

Aurora reached out with trembling fingers and gently touched the tip of one fang. Her eyes widened, and a strange little laugh escaped her. "Warm... I thought it’d be cold."

"I’m not a fucking ice sculpture," Damon muttered.

She did not seem to care. She continued running her fingers over it and then weirdly stared staring into his eyes. "Wow, such a beautiful red."

Somehow she had even inched closer to him. Now she was almost sitting right on his lap as if she was riding him and looking into his eyes and touching his teeth. What the hell kind of situation was this?

Damon blinked dumbly.

Inside his head Blood Reign was going crazy. "Drink her blood already, damn it! Just drink her blood already! Can’t you see? She is completely obsessed with you! She is a lunatic with a sweet sweet divine bloodline. Just how much more lucky could you get? Millions of vampires would kill to be in your position!"

Damon knew what the weapon spirit was talking about. He could clearly see it now. In the weirdo’s beautiful eyes. She had a full blown case of what many girls had in his last life time, especially after the vampire race became popular.

The twilight disease!

That too a severe one at that. This woman was basically all sorts of vampire crazy!

Aurora’s breath was warm on his cheek, her fingers still lightly brushing one fang like it was a holy relic. He just couldn’t believe it. How could a woman like this have such a side to her?

Blood Reign continued to howl in his mind like a manic. "I will throw you into the void," Damon whispered under his breath.

Aurora tilted her head, confused. "Hmm?"

"Nothing," Damon shook his head. Then, with all the effort of a man trying not to detonate a live grenade in his lap, he reached up and gently peeled her fingers off his mouth. "No more fang-touching. It’s weird. You’re weird. And I’m going to die of secondhand embarrassment if you keep staring at me like that."

"But your pupils dilated just now," Aurora murmured, still looking entirely too interested. "You liked it."

"I’m a vampire. My pupils dilate when I smell blood, when I see blood, when I think about blood. It doesn’t mean anything."

She blinked. "Are you thinking about blood right now?"

"I am hungry, woman. Of course, I am!" he snapped, then groaned and rubbed his forehead.

Aurora giggled again, clearly not phased at all. "You’re kind of cute when you’re flustered."

"I am not flustered," Damon growled. Wait, why was she getting bolder and bolder? Wasn’t she really shy before, nervous to even talk to him?

"I know you must be really hungry. How about you drink some of my blood? It should help you out a lot right now, ya?"

Damon stared at the warm and tender neck once again offered up on a silver platter in front of him. Though he still had his doubts, he was now somewhat sure that it was perfectly fine to drink from her.

But something was off. His instincts told him that this was a mistake he would regret making.

And he was a guy who always listened to his instincts.

Damon was just about to reject the crazy girl when he saw that the void hole had finally started to collapse. The edges of the metallic fortress had already started repairing itself. It was now or never. They needed to get back in right this instant, and he was definitely not at his full strength right now.

His gaze wandered between the tender neck and the metallic fortress for a couple of seconds before he finally came to a decision. Fuck it. Without any more thinking or analyzing, he sank his fangs into the tender neck.

The first drop of her blood hit his tongue, and Damon’s eyes snapped wide, blazing crimson. God damn, this woman’s blood was divine! Holy shit! It was somehow even better than when he had tasted her before!

It lit up every broken cell in his body with pure, golden fire, burning away exhaustion, searing through his veins like some sort of heavenly elixir. It was warmth and clarity and strength and temptation all wrapped into one. He needed more of it, and he took more of it.

Aurora gasped. Her arms instinctively wrapped around Damon’s shoulders, her fingers curling into his tattered cloak.

Damon felt her body’s warmth against him, and it only made the blood all the better. He could even hear a few moans slipping out of her lips. He drank with more ferocity. The woman was driving him absolutely crazy.

But then the next second, she did something completely unexpected.

Damon felt a small prick in his neck, and as he snapped his eyes open to look, he saw the girl smiling at him with crazy eyes, her teeth on his neck.

Damon instantly stopped. What the hell?

"You drank from me... I drank from you... " Aurora shyly mumbled something.

Just when he thought that she couldn’t become any crazier, the woman had broken his expectations! What the hell did she mean by she drank? She did not even break skin, for god’s sake?

He wanted to break the news to her, but seeing how the metallic fortress was healing itself rapidly, now was not the time. "Let’s go back. We need to get the others out." Damon shot forward into the hole without any hesitation. Aurora quickly followed him.
