Chapter 30: Lesson on affinities

Chapter 30: Lesson on affinities

After that, Lucas and Sahara met Kara and finalized their contract. She was surprised that Daemon had found a way to—undoubtedly—force them to sign. She herself had failed to recruit Eden, who had joined Setsuna’s faction, and Ingrid hadn’t joined any faction at all. Everything was unfolding exactly as Daemon had planned. For now, at least. Still, she had managed to recruit about a dozen pawns, though they were far less talented than them.

"I also need to find a way to influence Tess, the Neko. I don’t want to get directly involved, but it’d be a waste not to farm her before Ingrid takes her as a subordinate," he thought as he headed back to his dorm.

"Don’t forget what you owe me, Lord Daemon," she said, still staring at me with that mocking expression.

"No, I always keep my promises..."

"Finding the last move of the Isis Art was another puzzle, but for now, he had other fish to fry."

[Sahara Isis Wolberg

As he dined alone in his room, he glanced at the hologram.

"She seems more receptive than the others. But the percentage isn’t even one percent. I guess her past makes it harder. But mostly, it means she wouldn’t hesitate to stab me in the back," he muttered to himself.

He was in a bad spot.

"But with the right strategy, this can be fixed. For now, I only have 50 Y, and the most accessible and useful skill I could buy is Scarlett’s Pain Resistance (B) for just 100 Y. But Scarlett’s level needs to be at least 25%."

"Looks like I need to get my ass moving."

He grabbed his phone and called his guard, requesting two things—the first being:

"Bring me some training equipment..." Then he hung up.

"First, I need to boost my stats a little. Most of them are [E], when even a minimally talented commoner with one star would have at least [D]."

[Name: Daemon Leen Indivar

Strength: E-

Endurance: E-

Speed: E

Intelligence: B+

Mana: Null

Aura: Null

Lineage: ???

Contract: 0

Pact: 0

Weapon: Khaïbet-Nefertoum (Unusable)]

Getting his stats to E+ would be the bare minimum to have a decent physique.

...

The sun barely filtered through the curtains as Daemon began his training. His arm muscles trembled under the weight of the dumbbells—each rep was hell. His scrawny body, unused to exertion, protested violently. Dull waves of pain radiated through him, but he clenched his teeth.

His arms shook with muscle spasms, sweat beading on his skin.

"Pathetic." He slicked back his black hair.

Even a commoner with no lineage would have [D] stats. Meanwhile, he was stuck with this neglected body, its abilities pitiful.

He reminded himself of his situation—that was what gave him the courage to keep lifting.

"This body might be talentless, but today I’m paying for years of laziness."

He dropped the weights, his hands slick with sweat, and collapsed to his knees. His breathing was short and ragged, as if the air refused to fill his lungs. A gulp of ice-cold water brought a brief respite, but his muscles kept trembling.

"Reinforcement potions... I’ll have to buy some."

The cold shower water jolted him awake, streaming over his flushed skin. He mentally noted that he needed to increase his endurance first—it was by far his worst stat.

With a sigh, he got up. After a protein-heavy breakfast—a necessity now—Daemon headed to the academy’s main training hall for class.

Today was a large joint practical training session. And who better to learn from than the magical swordswoman Luxia Von Arcadia?

He adjusted his bandages, barely hiding his scraped palms, and wore lighter weights under his uniform.

"Time to get my ass moving. Pain is just a minor detail."

...

Eden’s Side

POV: Eden

"The history of our continent is divided into four major stages:

- The Prehistoric Era, or the Forgotten Era

- The Armageddon Era

- The Hundred Years’ War Era

- The Current Era, or the Era of Blessing."

[Author’s Note: Spirit King: My Yandere Harem is a story that takes place after my other book: Heroines, I’m Really not the Devourer. That’s why they may have similarities, it’s the same universe.]

As the history class ended, I packed my notes and grabbed the textbook titled The 8 Techniques of a Martial Artist.

Another professor was already in the room, launching into their lecture without giving us a second to breathe.

"To start, we’ll study two concepts: Sword Aura and Affinity Incarnation (or Resonance), followed by Dominion."

"Sword Aura and Affinity Incarnation are techniques where a Martial Artist uses their affinity to refine their weapon mastery (Sword Aura) and enhance their physical abilities (Affinity Incarnation)."

"Sword Aura is characterized by the speed, precision, power, and flexibility that an affinity can bring to your weapon handling."

"Affinity Incarnation, on the other hand, influences your body’s endurance, agility, and resistance."

"As you can see in the textbook, an affinity can amplify one trait while weakening another. For example:

- The Earth affinity increases power but reduces flexibility, speed, and precision in Sword Aura.

- Its deviant variant, Metal, improves both power and precision."

"From this, we deduce that deviant affinities offer more advantages than classic elemental ones. Can anyone name the elemental affinities and their variants?"

The elf next to me raised her hand.

"Yes?"

"There’s Lightning for Fire, Ice for Water, Metal for Earth, and Sound for Wind."

"Correct... Student?"

"You can call me Sahara, Professor." She smiled, adjusting her monocle, and I couldn’t stop my heart from racing.

"Huh? What’s this!?"

"As for special affinities, they’re... special. Light, Drakonic Breath, Darkness, Blood, Space, Time, Healing... They’re completely unique and rare—some come from unique lineages, others from angels or demons."

"That’s why mastering this concept is crucial: knowing your enemy’s affinity means knowing their strengths and weaknesses."
