Sold to My Killer Husband: His Concubine's Dilemma -
Chapter 54: Impaitent
Chapter 54: Impaitent
Lucien had heard what Rowan just said. He knew his mother had a temper, so he asked Rowan what she had done, as he had no idea about his mother visiting him. But now he got it when he saw Roseria in the house yesterday.
Lucien considered that Lilian would not have allowed Roseria to visit him just like that, on her own.
"So, Mother came into my room?" Lucien looked at Rowan with an arched brow.
"Yes, Her Highness was here," Rowan nodded.
"So, when did she leave?" Lucien questioned further, his good-looking face holding a serious expression.
"She did leave after a while, I guess before evening. I do not have an idea about it because I went to catch up with the physician, and then it was..."
"Rowan..." Lucien interrupted.
Rowan was dumbfounded. ’Did he not just ask me? Why grit his teeth and talk like this to me?’ Rowan huffed.
"Master," Samuel called Lucien and got his attention. ".....There are a few more important things that happened in a day—that is, yesterday..."
"That is what I have been asking! Can you both not just tell me rather than making this suspenseful?" Lucien barked while pinching his nose bridge.
"..." Rowan and Samuel both went quiet.
"Okay," they agreed in unison.
"I will speak then." Samuel looked at Rowan, and Rowan gestured for him to go forward.
"So, Her Highness came, followed by Lady Roseria, and yes, Edgar..."
"Oh yes, I know he follows others everywhere, but tell me first—how did they get the idea that I am ill... or whatever?" Lucien asked.
Upon being questioned, Samuel looked at Rowan, who shrugged back, while Lucien looked at both of them.
"It was Beatrice, Master. Apart from us, who else would have access straight to Edgar? Because, guessing by the speed they arrived, it must be Edgar who got the news earlier than the mediocre news tale time to reach Her Highness," Even Samuel thought the same yesterday, and that is how he came to the conclusion of how that would have happened. Now, he told the same thing to Lucien.
"And about the physician—he said that the poison might hinder and limit your strength, and Rowan..." while pointing at Rowan, "...had asked them to trace the origin of the poison. We have knowledge about the poisons in the country and all those we encountered in wars, but this is new..."
Samuel’s eyes moved to the wound that Lucien had exposed a while ago. They had arrived in Lucien’s room while Lucien had been sitting near the headboard of the bed, resting his back against it.
"What about the woman we rescued?" Lucien asked. Since he had been resting the whole day, he knew his two men would take care of it, but still, he needed an update. So, he asked while resting, leaning his head back against the bed support.
Yes, we did. Samuel had arranged a doctor overnight, and she was asked to stay in the chamber of that woman," Rowan answered.
"So she gained consciousness?" Lucien’s voice turned raspy.
"No... not yet. Madam has been a help, I heard, so the doctor said that the patient might recover early," Samuel answered, at the same time frowning his brows. Should I tell him all of yesterday’s events?
"And what else..." Lucien asked again. As his head was leaning back, he could not see the other two men in the room, who were busy signaling each other—should Samuel tell him what had happened yesterday? Meanwhile, Rowan, who did not have a detailed idea, asked Samuel to decide by himself.
A minute later, as Lucien had not heard an answer, he moved his head, and then his eyes landed on the two men, who were busy with their dumb charades.
"What are you two hiding?" Lucien asked them, squinting his eyes.
"..."
"Answer." Lucien’s eyes turned dark; he hated having any information kept from him.
Samuel sighed, and Lucien looked at him, slightly arching his brow.
"Master... Yesterday, two things happened with someone..." Samuel answered. Although he had been used to Lucien’s stare, he could not help but gulp at the same time.
"Who someone... can you stop making this dramatic, Samuel?" Lucien was getting impatient now. Whatever his fellow could have just said in one go was taking too much time. It was also his mind that was making him irritated.
"Oh yes, Master... so the someone is that concubine who had joined our house..." Samuel continued.
"To the point, please..." Now he was massaging his temples. "God... it hurts."
Rowan saw this and asked Lucien, "Master, it is because you had no food at all... I... I mean proper food."
Lucien hummed in response.
"So let me just get the food, okay? Be here."
"Where else am I supposed to be, Rowan?!!!" Lucien barked.
"Woah... calm down..." Rowan said and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Lucien’s frustrated eyes darted to Samuel, who then cleared his throat... but Lucien interrupted him before he could speak.
"What happened to that woman?" Lucien asked Samuel.
"Oh yes... Master, yesterday a series of events happened. Now, first is that Princess Layla had been residing in the house along with Lady Roseria," Samuel started with the list of events.
"So... Layla is also here..." Lucien hummed after saying this.
"Yes... and after that, Madam Liora... your concubine, was trying to hide to avoid meeting Her Highness," Samuel chuckled awkwardly as he saw Lucien’s stern gaze.
"After..." As Liora was Lucien’s subject of interest, he started looking at his arm, touching the hardened skin around his wound, which had turned brownish-red.
"Madam Liora, somehow, when sneaking out of the room, accidentally entered the room where the injured woman was..."
"Hisss..." Lucien hissed when he tried to remove the darkened skin, and a bead of blood oozed out. He cleaned it with his nightgown, sprawled on the bedside table. But as he heard Samuel, he asked, "So she entered a room that you chose. So what now? Had she told everyone in the house about that?" Lucien was now looking at Samuel, arching one eyebrow.
Samuel shook his head. "No, Master, she did not. In fact, she actually helped the doctor with the medicines."
"She helped with the medicines?" Lucien asked, squinting his eyes.
This time, Samuel nodded while closing his eyes. "Indeed. Not just helped, but Cecelia told me that the patient’s wound inflammation had reduced with just two doses."
"Okay... and who is Cecelia now?" Lucien brought his hand forward, resting his head on it.
"Cecelia is the lady doctor I hired. She works independently and was available. She is the sister of... umm... a colleague."
"Do I know this colleague? Or is he or she working for the palace? We cannot risk..." Lucien narrowed his eyes, probing further.
"No, by colleague, I mean back when I worked at the postal office. I met this boy there—he was working for himself. So, Cecelia is his sister, and..." Samuel chuckled awkwardly as he spoke.
"Please proceed..." Lucien’s patience was running thin, especially as his stomach rumbled again. ’Rowan has still not come back with something edible,’ he thought irritably.
"The more interesting part of the story—which I just found out—is that Lady Roseria was angry because you weren’t eating. And since she didn’t know what was going on between you and Lady Liora... she went to Her Highness and complained about it. After that, Mr. Edgar sent a few servants to search for Madam Liora." Samuel gasped for air after speaking in one breath.
Lucien listened carefully, but just then, Rowan arrived with food. He knocked on the door, and Samuel opened it for him. Rowan walked in and placed a plate with a bowl of clear soup and a meat steak in front of Lucien on the bed.
Lucien glanced at the plate and then back at Rowan.
"What happened, Master? Eat it up," Rowan urged him to eat, while Lucien stared back at him.
"You want me to eat all this?" Lucien questioned back.
"Yes, why?" Rowan’s response left Lucien speechless. The meat was too heavy for him, and the clear soup had been tasteless since the first time he tried it. But since he was hungry, he had no choice but to compromise.
"What were you two talking about?" Rowan asked, looking between them.
Samuel subtly signaled him to stay quiet before continuing. "After that, Master... Madam Liora’s maid was summoned, and she was getting blamed..."
As Samuel spoke, Lucien put a chunk of meat in his mouth, chewing it slowly.
"Then... there’s more to the story. Madam Liora got word that Mira, her maid, was being punished, so she rushed there. But before she could say anything, Her Highness ordered a certain maid to punish Madam Liora. Several slaps on her cheeks... made her lose consciousness."
Lucien’s hand, holding his fork, froze midair. He took a moment before speaking. "And then? Has she woken up?"
"No, sir. I have no idea. I sent Cecelia to check on her yesterday, but there’s been no news yet."
Lucien set his fork down. "Can you call Cecelia for me?"
