Sold to My Killer Husband: His Concubine's Dilemma -
Chapter 55: Lucien...
Chapter 55: Lucien...
"Cecelia?" Samuel’s face had a questioning expression, but having Lucien ask for her must be a needful case.
Lucien was done eating his steak and was now having the clear soup. After each sip, Lucien had been giving Rowan a look. Samuel’s eyes twitched, watching his master being too moody today.
Lucien had to ask more questions from the information Samuel had given him.
"So this woman you said somehow helped this Cecelia?" Lucien started with this question.
"Yes, Master." Samuel now folded his arms and took a relaxed posture by leaning against the wall behind him, while Lucien was still sitting on the bed and Rowan was sitting on the chair, his hands resting on his knees.
Samuel continued, "She somehow noticed a different flower among your planted flowers in the backyard, and..." Samuel scratched his head with a finger and gave it a thought, as if talking to himself. "What was that flower’s name?"
Lucien had already finished his bowl and was cleaning his mouth with the napkin that came with it. That was when Samuel’s face lit up as he remembered the flower. He exclaimed as he clicked his fingers, "Snowpetals... yes, Snowpetals, she said it was."
Lucien halted his mouth cleaning with the napkin for a second and looked at him. "So how did it help Cecelia?" Another question.
Rowan sat whispering, repeating the word "snowpetal flowers," running through his memory, thinking about whether there was any such flower in the garden. Anyway, that was not his section to think about. He looked at Samuel to hear what he was going to say next.
Samuel continued, "So, just how Lily, Madam Liora’s maid, then claimed that Madam had asked Cecelia to use the tea to treat the woman on the bed."
"And did that work?" Rowan asked, curious to know about such a flower. If the garden had such a thing, he might just use it to make money out of it. That way, the money he gave to that physician could be earned back too. He smirked, thinking he really did have a business mind.
"..."
Samuel noticed the smirk on Rowan’s face when he looked at him and questioned, ’What is he thinking?’ he thought.
"Tell me, Samuel, did that work?" Rowan got a little excited. He got off his seat and was about to reach Samuel and grab his shoulders.
"Can you stop meddling, Rowan?" Lucien’s voice brought him back from his dream of having lots of money through his not-yet-even-started business.
Rowan’s face fell at the same speed it had lit up.
"You continue," Lucien ordered Samuel while side-eyeing Rowan, who was still sad.
"So, as Rowan asked me, Master, the answer is, as I said, that indeed worked, and as I had told you, the patient is showing growth," Samuel nodded again, while Rowan was making a mental note of it.
Lucien just hummed in response. He might have just considered this girl as a person. From what he knew about his mother, it was easy to see that the girl did not look like she had married by her own will.
If she had, she would have been tormenting him by now. He had an idea about this when he was married to Scarlet Merches. There were many ladies who had tried to get on his nerves, but he was a warrior who barely stayed at home. A single woman was enough for him. Even then, his mother used to force him to take many women, but he had made a vow not to marry another time or take any other lady.
This was the same reason he knew why his mother must have asked Alden to force a decree on Lucien.
But when he saw Liora, he really felt, why would this girl have won Mother’s heart? must be the idea of getting the riches And now, when Samuel claimed that Lilian had her slapped, that canceled out the consideration of Liora being Lilian’s favorite.
Lucien got up from his seat and went to the bathroom attached to his room so that he could freshen up. He had eaten a "good meal," tasteless, but it had filled his stomach.
Watching him go there, Rowan, instead of asking, told Lucien, "The physician had asked you to rest... Ma-as-st-ter." He deliberately pressed on the last word.
Lucien ignored his sarcasm and went straight inside. Samuel and Rowan remained in the room; they wanted to see if bathing would make Lucien’s wound worse, because it would.
While inside the bathroom, Lucien was just splashing water on his face. After hearing the things outside, he started noticing two similarities between Liora and his ex-wife, Scarlet.
’No, no, do not think like that. It is just messing up your mind,’ Lucien told himself.
The thing he found similar was that Liora did have a somewhat similar face to Scarlet. If not for her hair color being different, she did have a side profile just like Scarlet. The second similarity was having simple knowledge of gardening. He had first noticed Liora’s face resembling Scarlet’s when they met at the inn.
Luckily, it was clear that she did not remember him, and he had never mentioned the girl from the inn to Rowan and Samuel. They knew about the girl at the inn but had no idea who she actually was
He splashed water that rolled down his naked upper body, flowing through his chiseled muscles. His habit of alcohol had not been so damaging to him, as his well-toned body still looked good.
But then, pushing all these thoughts to the back of his head, Lucien walked out of the bathroom. He saw his two accomplices still right there, exactly where they had been, and had not left. He knew why they were here.
Walking to the chest, he brought out his everyday clothes. He took out a yellow-hued shirt and loose pants, planning to wear a beige-colored robe coat over them.
"I have not had a bath," he answered the unspoken questions his accomplices had in their minds.
.
"But where are you going then?" Samuel asked, looking at Lucien trying to get ready. He was tying the bandages he had removed before, again, after applying the ointment given by the physician. Rowan walked to him to help with that.
"To meet Roseria, of course," Lucien said. There was a slight hint of happiness in his voice...
"And Princess Layla too," Rowan cooed in between.
"If she is here as a princess, we cannot be rude to her," Lucien suggested.
"Yeah, you are right. She did have a sparkle in her eyes whenever she looked at you," Rowan chimed in again.
"We cannot mind it for now. And for Rosie, I was not in my senses yesterday. It has been a long time since I have seen her face brimming happily, so Layla is there or not, I am seeing my sister."
Lucien had gotten ready, but before walking out and Rowan going with him, he asked Samuel, "Take care of that woman in the house. Provide anything."
Samuel nodded. He understood that even if Lilian was the one to blame for Liora’s state, the blame would ultimately fall on Lucien. So, it was he who should take care of the situation and ask...sorry on behalf of Lilian’s.
Lucien halted at his door. This was the first time he looked straight at the door opposite to him, that was Liora’s door.
It opened at the same moment, revealing Mira, who was accompanying Liora out of the room. She had black and blue bruises on her face. Lucien’s eyes were keen and would notice anything. He had seen her face clearly back at the inn when she was not in her senses, so these bruises were noticeable.
Mira saw Lucien first and bowed to him. "His Majesty."
Lucien cleared his throat, whereas Liora did the same but did not utter a single word.
Mira, noticing that Liora was not saying anything, spoke instead. "We are heading to the dining room for breakfast, Your Highness."
Lucien nodded, gave them one last glance, and headed forward. Rowan nodded at Mira too. He glanced at Liora, who still kept her head low. Maybe it was her thoughts telling her that her face was not looking good, rather bad. It was a bad idea to go down.
"Mira... can I not have food here?"
Mira understood why Liora was hesitating to go there.
"Madam... wait here. I will bring it to you."
Meanwhile, Lucien went to the rooms that Rowan had told him were given to Layla and Roseria.
Lucien knocked on the door of Roseria’s room, where she was staying, on the opposite side of the hallway from his own room.
"Rosie, are you awake?" Lucien’s voice carried a rare hint of happiness, echoing through the hallways for the very first time. Roseria was indeed the apple of his eye.
Rowan did not wait with Lucien to interfere between brother and sister. Instead, he walked to the kitchen to inform Beatrice to prepare the dishes Lucien had requested for Roseria.
The door clicked and slowly opened.
"Lucien..." a soft voice fell upon Lucien’s ears.
