Chapter 107: The End
Chapter 107: The End
-Kathrine Andrews:
Three months. Three whole months of everything in my life fell perfectly into place.
I was graduating. I had already chosen which university I would attend. The moment my acceptance letter arrived, it felt like every late-night study session, every stressful exam, and every second of hard work had been worth it.
On top of that, I had received multiple invitations to join some of the most prestigious women’s professional hockey teams.
And to top it all off, I was dating the most beautiful woman on the planet.
I stood in front of my full-length mirror, running my hands down my dress with a grin. It was stunning—a deep, rich shade of emerald green, hugging my figure in all the right places.
The satin fabric shimmered slightly under the light, catching on my curves as I turned. The neckline was just low enough to be daring but not over the top, and the slit running up one side showed just the right amount of leg. The back dipped low, exposing my toned shoulders and upper back.
I had let my hair down for once, instead of tying it up like I usually did for games or training. Thick, dark waves cascaded over my shoulders and down my back, sleek and smooth. I had taken my time styling it, and it looked... elegant. Beautiful, even. I felt amazing.
My makeup was simple but well done—just enough to enhance my sharp features without making me feel like I had caked something onto my face.
A subtle smoky eye, mascara that made my lashes look long and thick, a natural blush, and deep red lipstick that matched my nails perfectly.
And the shoes—oh, the shoes.
Black, open-toed stilettos, with thin straps that wrapped around my ankles. They were classy but fierce, just like the dress. I had debated wearing something more comfortable, but when I saw these, I knew I had to wear them. Tonight, I was going all out.
Tonight was prom.
And everything in my life was perfect.
With one last glance in the mirror, I turned and headed downstairs.
The moment I reached the bottom of the stairs, all eyes turned to me.
Nancy gasped. "Oh my god, Kat."
Nicholas, who was adjusting the cuffs of his suit jacket, looked up—and froze. Even Alex, who I usually caught rolling his eyes at me, seemed momentarily stunned before quickly looking away, like he refused to admit I looked good.
I smirked. "What, too hot for you guys to handle?"
Nancy beamed. "You look incredible! Glyndon is going to die when she sees you."
Nicholas just shook his head. "I still don’t get how you and Glyndon are a thing, but whatever."
Alex, who was standing beside Malakai, let out a short laugh. "Yeah, because threatening each other with forks is totally how normal relationships start."
I turned to Alex with a fake innocent smile. "Jealous? Don’t worry, I’m sure Malakai can threaten you with a fork if that’s your thing."
Malakai chuckled, wrapping an arm around Alex’s shoulders. "I mean, I’d do it if you asked nicely."
Alex groaned. "I hate you both."
Nancy, ignoring the banter, twirled on the spot in her dress. She was wearing a flowing, pale pink gown that complimented her complexion beautifully. Soft, romantic, and elegant. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and she wore a delicate silver necklace that Nicholas had gifted her.
Nicholas himself looked sharp in a classic black tux, crisp and tailored to perfection. He had ditched the tie and left the top button of his shirt undone, which somehow made him look even more polished.
And then there was Alex.
He was wearing an all-black suit, but instead of a traditional button-up shirt, he had gone for a black turtleneck underneath his jacket. It was a look that honestly suited him too well. His hair was neatly styled for once, and he looked... well, decent. If I had to admit it.
We were all dressed to kill.
Dad had insisted on driving me. He said it was a "once-in-a-lifetime moment" and that he wanted to be part of it. I had rolled my eyes at first, but honestly, I was glad.
The entire ride, he grinned at me in the rearview mirror. "You look amazing, kid."
I smirked. "I know."
He just laughed, shaking his head. "You’re a handful, you know that?"
We pulled up to the venue, and I stepped out like I owned the place.
The venue was stunning—a huge, elegant ballroom, draped in twinkling lights, with a dance floor in the center and round tables scattered around the edges. Music played through the speakers, loud enough to fill the room but not too deafening.
And then I saw her.
Glyndon.
She was standing near the entrance, waiting for me. And holy shit.
She was wearing a black suit, tailored perfectly to her small frame, paired with a deep red crop top that showed just enough cleavage to make my heart stop. The jacket was left open, her pants fitted, and she wore heels that made her stand just a little taller. She looked stunning. Confident. Sexy.
The moment our eyes met, her lips curled into a smirk.
"You’re late," she teased, tilting her head slightly.
I walked straight up to her, grinning. "I had to make an entrance."
She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping. "You always do."
Nancy and Nicholas were already heading to the dance floor, laughing. Malakai was leading Alex toward a table, their hands brushing but not quite holding.
Alex still had that cautious, guarded expression, but I could see it—the way he was slowly letting Malakai pull him out of his shell. Step by step, he was learning not to care what people thought.
As for me?
I was here, at my senior prom, with the woman I liked, about to dance the night away and celebrate the fact that I had completely, absolutely won at life.
And I couldn’t be happier.
