Chapter 108: Epilogue
-Kathrine Andrews: (Song of the Chapter: All The Stars by SZA)
Four years.
It had been four years since high school. Four years since prom, since graduation, since I chose to dedicate my life to hockey.
And now, at twenty-two, almost twenty-three, I was exactly where I had always dreamed of being.
A professional women’s hockey player. Not just any player—I was one of the best. My name was everywhere, my face in sports magazines, and my fanbase? Massive. People—especially women—loved me.
They followed my career religiously, filled the stadiums, flooded my social media with messages, sent fan mail, and even showed up to my games with banners and posters with my name on them.
And Glyndon?
She hated every second of it.
She never outright said it, but I knew.
Whenever a female fan gushed over me during an interview, whenever someone called me their "ultimate hockey crush," whenever I received an innocent but flirty comment from a stranger, Glyndon’s jaw would clench. Her eyes would darken, her grip on my hand would tighten, and she’d go completely silent.
Possessive. Jealous.
And I loved it.
But right now, I wasn’t thinking about my fanbase or Glyndon’s jealousy.
I was thinking about the game.
The Finals
The stadium was packed.
Thousands of people filled the arena, their voices blending into one chaotic, electric roar. Bright white lights illuminated the ice, reflecting off my helmet, my stick, and my skates.
The scoreboard flashed 2-2.
One minute left.
I could feel the pressure. The weight of every pair of eyes in the building, of every camera broadcasting this moment across the world.
My heart was pounding.
I adjusted my gloves, steadied my breathing, and dropped my stance lower, my skates digging into the ice.
This was it.
I had to score.
One of my teammates caught the puck and took off down the ice. I saw her look up, searching for an opening.
I pushed forward, breaking free from the defenders.
Perfect timing.
She passed it to me—a fast, sharp pass.
I caught it, my body moving on pure instinct.
A defender lunged at me. I dodged. Another tried to block my way. I faked left, cut right.
The goalie braced herself.
Thirty seconds.
I pulled my stick back, aimed—
Shot.
The puck sailed through the air, cutting across the ice like a bullet—
And slammed into the back of the net.
The buzzer screamed.
The entire arena erupted.
Victory
I barely had time to process what had just happened before my teammates swarmed me.
Bodies crashed into me from all directions—arms wrapping around me, voices screaming in excitement, laughter and cheers surrounding me.
I was being lifted, shoved, pulled into hugs, but I couldn’t stop laughing.
We won.
We fucking won.
The championship was ours.
I could hear my coach shouting in excitement, see the flashes of cameras, and feel the raw energy of the crowd as they stood on their feet, screaming for us.
And then—everything changed.
Lights, Silence, and Skates
The stadium lights dimmed just slightly.
A hush rippled through the crowd—not complete silence, but a shift. Enough to make my pulse quicken in confusion.
And then, I saw her.
Glyndon.
On the ice.
Wearing skates.
I froze.
I stared my brain barely comprehending what was happening.
She couldn’t skate.
At least, not like this. Not enough to glide toward me so smoothly, so confidently.
My breath hitched.
I barely noticed my teammates backing away, giving us space. I barely registered the way every single camera had turned toward us.
All I could see was her.
She stopped right in front of me, her dark eyes shining under the arena lights.
"Congratulations."
I let out a sharp breath, a grin breaking across my face. "You skated out here just to tell me that?"
"Not just that."
She reached into her pocket.
And suddenly, my heart stopped.
She pulled out a small, dark velvet box.
I forgot how to breathe.
No. No way.
Not here.
Not right now.
She flipped it open.
A ring.
A sleek, silver band with a single, perfectly cut emerald.
My breath caught in my throat.
The entire stadium fell silent.
I could feel thousands of people watching. Reporters. Cameras. My teammates.
And Glyndon.
She took a slow, steady breath, her fingers tightening around the box.
"Kathrine Andrews," she said softly. "I have loved you since the moment you made my life a living hell."
I choked on a laugh, my eyes burning.
"I have loved you since you made me feel things nobody could," she continued, her voice unwavering. "I want to live my life with you. Grow old with you."
I was shaking.
Tears blurred my vision, my hands trembling.
"I love you now," she whispered, tilting her head slightly, her lips curling at the edges. "And I want to love you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?"
I let out a broken, disbelieving laugh.
This was happening.
This was happening.
And then she dropped to one knee.
And I completely lost it.
Yes
"Yes!"
The word ripped out of me, louder than I had intended, shaky, breathless, raw.
"Yes! Yes! I love you! I love you so much!"
I dropped down to my knees in front of her, grabbing her face, and pressing my forehead against hers.
She let out a soft, breathless laugh, her hands cupping my cheeks.
The entire arena exploded.
People were screaming. Cameras flashing. My teammates were losing their minds.
Glyndon pulled back slightly, her dark eyes searching mine.
"Let me put the ring on you, idiot."
I let out a watery laugh, my chest shaking, and held out my hand.
She took it, her fingers steady as she slid the ring onto mine.
A perfect fit.
And then I threw myself at her, wrapping my arms around her, knocking both of us onto the ice.
She barely had time to react before I kissed her.
Deep. Breathless.
The world around us blurred. The crowd, the noise, the flashing cameras—none of it mattered.
It was just us.
Me. Her.
Forever.
