Chapter 96: Chapter 96

Luan quickly distanced himself from Mateo, his stance ready to react to any sudden movements or anything.

But contrary to what he thought, Mateo just started laughing as he dusted off his clothes.

"You did great, that was all," he stated while pointing at Abigail. "Send the next one up," he leisurely ordered as he morphed back into his human form.

Luan clicked his tongue but still walked away, taking a seat next to the other students, who were all looking at him with awe.

Even though Mateo had definitely held back, Luan still managed to catch him off guard and land a solid hit; that was most definitely going to be a very high score for this test.

Benjamin was also rather surprised; going off the way Luan was acting, he would’ve never guessed that he was so proficient in combat, even managing to land a hit on his uncle.

He had been trained by his father and uncle since a young age, so he knew perfectly well how powerful they both were, even if he was holding back to purely test him. Taking him by surprise and delivering a powerful blow was still a significant accomplishment.

Biting his nails nervously, he started thinking. ’But if he could do it, then so can I!’ he thought, glaring at Luan for a second only to focus on the test right after.

Meanwhile, Liana seemed to expect this outcome, as she was smiling now, not showing any surprise; instead, she glanced at Abigail and the others who had mocked him earlier.

Abigail was clenching her fist tightly; it seemed like Luan would most definitely pass and enter a high-ranking class as well.

But that was fine as well; if he was going to enter class S, she could keep a careful eye on him at all times and make sure she would correct that problematic behavior.

Turning toward the students after she heard Mateo’s order, she sighed, "Now just go from the one that turned in their paper first to last." With that, she sat down and took out a notebook and a pen.

Liana slowly walked toward the center of the training ground, where her uncle was waiting with a ferocious grin on his face.

"So that’s him? The one that little shrimp appointed as your fiancée?" Mateo casually inquired, his arms crossed in front of his chest.

Liana chuckled a little, "Yes, he is the fiancé my father and mother have appointed and agreed on for me."

When the others heard what she said, they made the connection: Mateo had just called the current acting emperor that little shrimp?

Benjamin looked furious; he knew Mateo had been quite problematic with his manners, but this. In front of all those prestigious noble houses as well.

The other students tried their best not to burst out laughing just like the servants and guards; only the imperial guards were all glaring at Mateo as well.

While he leisurely kept asking Liana questions about Luan and how she had been, he casually ignored all of them like they didn’t even exist in the first place.

"Are you ready? I’ll go a bit easier then against that guy because of your sigil, but it is still an entrance test."

Liana nodded, taking a combat-ready stance, and just like that, the second battle started.

This time, however, Mateo didn’t use his sigil at all and slowly approached her.

She, on the other hand, charged straight at him with a smile on her face.

Then a melee brawl broke out; punches were exchanged as Mateo slowly but surely started gaining the upper hand.

Dodging each of Liana’s chops and punches while easily seeing through the feints mixed in. Typical for imperial princesses, they only took the most basic of training while focusing their time more on other things the empress deemed more important.

Mateo suddenly saw an opening, and without a second of hesitation, he stomped her in her stomach, making Liana roll off the ground.

She looked very disheveled, with dirt sticking to her face and hair, her clothes also covered in dirt.

As she coughed a couple times to cope with the impact on her stomach, she slowly got back up, wobbling a couple times after she stood upright once more.

"Not bad for an imperial lady, I have to say," Mateo complimented her performance.

Liana just clicked her tongue, and then it happened, her whole vibe shifting completely, her graceful look turning into one of a predator staring at his prey.

Mateo felt this change, and he couldn’t help but grin. "It seems you really want to score high, heh," he muttered.

Liana stood there looking around; after taking in her surroundings, she stared at Mateo. "Get ready, round two won’t be so easy," she said before wildly charging straight toward him.

Mateo covered his face with his fists in a boxing stance to get ready for anything, but she didn’t care as she kept sprinting toward him.

When she was right in front of him, with a wild motion, she aimed a punch straight at his liver, the place right below his arms and hands that were guarding his face.

Mateo felt the impact faltering for a moment before he recollected himself and countered with a punch of his own aimed straight at her abdomen.

With an effortless twist of her torso, Liana dodged with minimal movement and elbowed Mateo in the face as a counter.

Using that momentum, Mateo used it to create some distance between the two, narrowing his eyes at his niece.

He spit out some blood and got in a combat-ready stance once more. But this time it wasn’t a normal stance; he looked more like a ferocious lion that was about to jump on its prey than a human.

When Liana saw that, she immediately tried to create as much distance as she could between the two while still keeping an eye on him.

"You did well, Liana," he suddenly said as he pounced at her.
