Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 75
Chapter 75: Chapter 75
"Your Highness, we have arrived at the Meskevela duchy," David announced through the window.
Liana looked through the window and saw a large stone wall, with multiple rows of carriages and pedestrians waiting in front of the gate.
"Will we go through a special entrance, or do we wait in line?"
"We will go through the private entrance used by the duke’s family." Saying that, the carriage took a turn and went toward a gate that was tightly guarded with many more guards than the public gate.
When the guards saw the carriage come toward them, they all shot up and quickly opened the gate while saluting to all the guards and the carriage.
"We welcome the third imperial princess!" They shouted in unison, making sure no one was slouching and everyone had the proper posture.
David nodded, pride welling inside him. "Thank you," he said as they made their way into the city.
Once inside, all the commoners were standing in two neat rows on each side of the road, all of them curiously looking at the carriage. They had been briefed on the arrival of a very important guest.
But they didn’t take it too seriously. Who could be more important than his own children? But the moment they laid their eyes on the large crimson lion’s crest on the uniforms and the carriage, they realized their mistake.
Gasps were heard across the crowd as they all fell down to their knees and bowed. Every single person was on their knees, even the people inside the shops.
Once other people saw how they were bowing, they bowed as well. And a citywide domino effect took place.
David, seeing this, was once more reminded of the reputation of the imperial family, all thanks to the current emperor and empress. With his own power, he had expanded the empire’s borders dozens of times.
And the Empress had stabilized his reign, consolidating any leaks or rebellions that were brewing and wiping them out or controlling them before they could break out.
With a sigh, they made their way through the city, Liana glancing out the window with a smile plastered on her face as she waved to all her subjects.
With Anna and Eva standing behind her, it had been a long time since they had left the imperial palace, but once more they were reminded of what it meant to serve Liana.
After a while they arrived at the castle of the Meskevela family, and after entering, they were greeted by Drago, Hana, Selis, Kael, and a dozen guards and servants.
"We welcome her highness the third imperial princess," Drago said with a deep bow. Followed by everyone else bowing as well.
Liana gracefully exited the carriage and, with a small bow, reciprocated the gesture. "I thank you, Duke Meskevela, for this welcome," she said.
The royal guards surrounded her with David at the head. "Yo, Drago, long time no see," he greeted, with a grin on his face.
When Drago saw him standing there, he also grinned, "Let’s enter the house. We have prepared quarters for you all after the long journey."
With that, the whole group entered the castle and made their way toward the dining room.
This time, however, Liana sat at the head of the table, with Drago and Hana flanking her on both sides. The royal guards and the duke’s guards stationed themselves at regular intervals and next to windows.
Absolutely nothing could go wrong here, or it would be a disaster for the duke’s prestige and the imperial family as well.
David stood behind Liana, flanked by her two attendants. "So, Drago, how’s it going? I hope your skills haven’t gone rusty because of the recent peace we’ve been having," David teasingly said.
"Hahaha, of course not. I still train daily and even spar with Kian when he’s available," Drago proudly stated.
Looking around, David furrowed his brow. "Where is he? If he’s your wife’s personal butler, shouldn’t he be here?" he inquired.
"He’s now my son’s personal butler," Hana stated. And Drago nodded.
David’s brow furrowed even further. "You’re telling me that old man acknowledged him?"
Drago and Hana just nodded, Liana listening attentively; she could use every little bit of information. With a barely noticeable signal, Anna took out the notes and started adding the new information.
Even though everyone had seen it happen, no one said a word about it.
David chuckled a little. "It seems I need to raise my evaluation of that young man," he stated with a nod of approval.
"What do you mean?" Drago asked.
Just then the servants entered holding trays of food; placing all the food at the table, they promptly left the room.
David shrugged, "I might have had a negative evaluation about him potentially becoming the princess’s husband because he’s just the third son."
While cutting into a piece of chicken, Drago looked at David. "You’re still the same doting old man, I see," he muttered, taking a bite of the chicken.
David narrowed his eyes slightly, his tone clipped. "I take my duties seriously, Lord Drago. Questioning the qualifications of a third son is my job when the future of her highness is involved. Not everyone gets to eat chicken without consequences."
Then they both burst out laughing, Hana and Selis chuckling. Only Kael and Liana were rather tense, almost frozen in place.
"It might be better to explain a little more because it seems the two little ones aren’t aware of your history," Hana said, wiping the tears from her eyes.
David cleared his throat. "No need to worry, my lady; he and I go way back. He was a central piece in your father’s expansions, and the three of us are lifelong brothers in arms," David said, proudly slapping his chest.
Only after hearing that did Kael and Liana heave a sigh of relief. "I did not know that, excuse me, Lord Drago," Liana politely said.
"Don’t worry about it, princess. I’m just glad that you grew up to be a proper young lady. You were, after all, a troublemaker when you were little," Drago said, with a teasing smile.
Liana’s ears turned slightly red, but she didn’t show a reaction. Drinking a big sip of water.
And just like that, all the earlier tension vanished, and they enjoyed a hearty meal while chatting happily.
