Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 74
Chapter 74: Chapter 74
The imperial carriage rocked gently as it traveled along the well-maintained road toward the Meskevela duchy. Princess Liana sat with perfect posture despite the weeks of travel, her silver hair immaculately arranged and her emerald traveling dress unwrinkled. Seven months of preparation had led to this moment.
"We should arrive before sunset, Your Highness," one of her attendants said, glancing out the window at the changing landscape.
Liana nodded, her silver eyes revealing nothing of her thoughts. The imperial decree had summoned Luan Meskevela back early from his year away, and now she was being delivered to him like a precisely timed gift. Her mother’s plans were always meticulous.
"Tell me again what we know about him, Anna," she said, though she had memorized every detail weeks ago. It helped to hear the information spoken aloud, to search for nuances she might have missed.
Anna, one of her personal attendants, opened the notes she had received from her twin sister. "From what we’ve gathered, he is rather free-spirited and really likes women," she said, a sigh escaping from her mouth.
Liana completely ignored it, instead paying close attention to what she had said. "Then it should not be a problem to get engaged. But still I cannot let my guard down. Mother clearly stated that failure is not allowed," she said, glancing out the window.
There, David and a dozen members of the royal guard were traveling with her, guarding her carriage meticulously. Nothing could happen to her, or the Empress’s plans would be disrupted, and when that happened, Caelius would make his move.
Just the thought of that was enough to intimidate whole nations. "Make sure nothing happens to Her Highness!" he shouted while he and the vice-captain positioned themselves on either side of the carriage.
At the front were around ten more members, and at the back another ten. In total there were twenty-two guards dispatched to guard Her Highness.
"Understood!" They all shouted in unison.
Liana flashed a small smile, which disappeared right after, "Contact Elisia and ask what Mother’s true intentions are," she ordered Anna.
"Understood." Anna stood up and went into her own private room designated to contact her twin sister.
Then she signaled to her other attendant, who, without a word spoken between them, waved her arm in an outward arc, and a large black veil surrounded her and Liana.
Then an illusory court appeared, with Liana seated at the head with her attendant standing behind her.
Then tens of ethereal figures appeared around the table, all of them wearing immaculate clothes as they all looked at Liana with reverence.
The attendant behind her had seen this scene multiple times, but every time she was left in awe. ’Her Highness’s sigil is truly impressive,’ she thought.
"Hello, everyone. You remember what we talked about last time, right?" she asked the ethereal figures.
"Yes," they all said in unison.
Then one of the rougher-looking men seated on the right of Liana stood up, grabbing everyone’s attention.
"So it’s finally that time, my lady, to meet your fiancé," he said, with a serious look on his face.
Liana gave him a curt nod. "Indeed, we will arrive around sundown at the Meskevela duchy," she expressionlessly said.
A finer-looking young man at the end of the table stood up next. "My lady, make sure you carefully inspect him and make sure he is worthy of you. You are an absolute genius, and with our help, you are a born ruler." He proudly stated, looking rather smug.
The rough-looking man Dren Halveth glared at Elowen, "Don’t disrespect a duke’s son. Elowen, and my lady is smart enough to be able to handle things like that on her own. Just keep playing with the bones you love," he sneered, with a smirk.
Elowen glared at Dren. "The only thing you’re good at is fighting and shedding blood. So keep your barbaric tendencies to yourself." Elowen snapped.
Dren was about to start throwing insults, but then Liana, with a snap of her fingers, made the two men sit down. "I did not summon you all to listen to your bickering. Get to the point." She then looked at two people seated next to each other.
They were Kaelith and Alrec, both governing very different domains, but they were the most knowledgeable in things like this.
Ever since she had awakened, she had confided in them for countless things, because her parents were always busy.
Kaelith stood up. "My lady, just trust your own instincts, but make sure to have an in-depth discussion about the things that are very important to you." he said with a deep bow.
After him, Alrec stood up. "The only thing I will say is finances are always important. If he’s dismissive of those, it’ll be hard to properly govern a territory, so make sure to discuss that in depth, my lady," he added.
After they both took a seat once more, all the ethereal figures had a smile on their face; the young lady they had been helping for almost a year was finally about to get engaged. Her life would then truly begin.
Many of them had children while they were still alive, and now seeing Liana, she felt like their grandchild. So they doted on her quite a bit.
"Thank you all." Liana said, and with a wave of her arm the illusory court vanished. Then the black veil vanished right after.
Then Anna stepped out of the private room, and taking a seat opposite to Liana, she looked her straight in the eyes.
"She wants you to find out his weaknesses and grade them based on how easy it is to exploit those. As well as your true thoughts on him and if you want to get engaged or not." Anna said.
"Thank you, I’ll keep it in mind. The meeting is planned for tomorrow, right?" Liana asked Eva, her other attendant.
Eva took out a small notebook from her pocket and quickly flipped through the pages. "That’s right, my lady. Tomorrow during lunch. And it seems because her majesty made thorough preparations, the other families didn’t plan a meeting until two days after yours."
Liana smiled when she heard those words. "That sounds like Mother, very meticulous and making sure nothing can go wrong."
Then turning to look at Anna. "Tell her that I’ll make sure to do that and more."
