Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 69
Chapter 69: Chapter 69
Inside his room, Luan carefully placed the egg somewhere where it wouldn’t break; after that, he went outside again.
"Let’s wrap it up here. And no more stops before we reach the destination," he said, looking around at everyone doing their own thing.
"Understood," Kafele and Luciano shouted from the edges of the camp as they quickly started cleaning everything up and loading everything back onto the carriage.
The maids were doing the same, and everything was cleaned up rather fast. Once inside the carriage, Kian and Ava sat at the front, with Ava steering and Kian as her guard.
Luan, on the other hand, lazily lay on the sofa, staring at the ceiling with Bart sprawled next to him.
"I don’t want to go," he muttered, and with that he closed his eyes.
Celia glanced at the sleeping Luan, then turned toward Lily and the other girls all seated around the table.
Lily had made some extra card sets for personal use with Luan’s permission, and right now they had nothing better to do anyway, so all the girls were happily playing cards.
"Finally," Clover muttered, as she played an ace, with a grin on her face.
Lily sighed as she placed a three on the table. "Finally what?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
While collecting all the cards after winning the round, Clover looked at all the girls. "You all read the letter, right? He’ll get a fiancée, and after that, because he is a high noble’s son, he will have to look for concubines," Clover enthusiastically said, in a hushed voice. Carefully glancing to make sure Luan wouldn’t hear her.
Lily’s ears turned slightly red at the mention of this. Hiding her face behind her cards, she peeked through them. "What does that have to do with you?"
Clover rolled her eyes. "Of course I’m aiming to become one; why else would I become a maidservant for him?"
Lily’s eyes widened, and she turned beet red, hiding behind her cards. She didn’t say anything anymore and just played a king.
Next to her, Tokiko nodded at Clover’s idea. "The same goes for me," she said.
Samantha and Rania were attentively listening and nodding along, but when they heard Tokiko’s brave statement, they were rather surprised.
Celia, on the other hand, just rolled her eyes and ignored the whole discussion, focusing solely on the game.
"Hmph! Focus on the game," she bluntly stated, and like that, they kept bickering and playing cards.
The rest of the journey passed without incident. A full two weeks of calm roads, quiet nights, and the occasional bit of lighthearted chaos inside the carriage. But eventually, the trees began to thin, the roads grew busier, and the signs of their destination became clearer with each passing kilometer.
By the end of the fourteenth day, they had finally arrived. They stood outside the walls surrounding the whole Meskevela territory.
But instead of waiting like they did at the Xandrian Freeholds, Kian skillfully showed Ava the way to the private entrance only used by the Meskevela family.
When the guards saw the carriage with Kian seated at the front, they had relieved expressions. There had been a lot of tension in the house because the duke and the first lady of the house needed him home.
One of the guards sent a message to the castle in the center of the territory, alerting the duke of his son’s arrival.
"Hello, Kian," the guard politely greeted.
"Hello, can we enter, or do you need to check?" Kian replied.
"You can enter; we already checked it while you were in sight," the guard said, while the heavy gate slowly opened.
Kian nodded; he had forgotten that there was someone with a sigil like that in the guards. With a smile, they entered the bustling territory.
When the people saw a carriage with the Meskevela family crest enter from the private entrance, they all lined up to see who it was that was returning.
"Mom, look at that!" A young boy excitedly said, pointing at the carriage that was slowly going through the city.
"Wow, remember if you work hard someday you might be able to ride in a carriage like that or even better become a guard for the duke," the mother encouraged her son with a motherly smile.
As they and many other commoners waved frantically at the carriage, hoping to see a glimpse of who it was.
But the only thing they saw in the windows were servants, beautiful girls, and handsome young men.
An elderly man looked with longing at the servants. "That should have been me," he bitterly said.
A young girl who stood next to him looked at her grandpa with a confused look. "Why?" she innocently asked.
"When the duke was still a young boy, he was looking for a servant, and I had applied, but unfortunately I wasn’t selected," he explained, slowly making sure his cute granddaughter could understand it.
"Wow, so you almost became a servant of the duke? You’re amazing, Grandpa," she excitedly said, her eyes lighting up as she thought about becoming like one of the maids in the carriage wearing beautiful clothes and taking care of a noble.
The grandpa let out a hearty laugh and stroked his grey beard after hearing his granddaughter’s words. "That’s right, I’m amazing, so make sure to work hard, and maybe you’ll have a chance to become one as well."
The little girl nodded her head vigorously and made fists with her small hands. "I will!" she shouted, staring at the carriage.
Inside the carriage, Celia and the others were looking outside the windows, and seeing all those people standing next to each other waving at the carriage was a surreal sight.
"This is insane. I knew they were a powerful family, but for this to happen when a carriage just enters the city..." Celia muttered, her mouth wide open while she stared at all the common people standing outside.
Not long ago she had just been an ordinary worker at the guild, but now she was a servant of one of the most prominent families of the empire; it seemed this title wasn’t just for show.
Kafele and Luciano were just as surprised as the others. Even though their families had worked for other smaller noble families, the contrast was just too great.
