Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 70
Chapter 70: Chapter 70
Arriving at the castle, Kian greeted the guards, and they promptly opened the gates after they got the message from the guards at the outer wall.
"Welcome home, third young master," they shouted enthusiastically, bowing while the carriage went past them.
Luan, who was still groggily lying inside the carriage, completely ignored the guards greeting and kept lazing around on the sofa while everyone else was frantically running around and cleaning up or preparing everything to make sure they wouldn’t shame Luan in front of his parents.
Bart looked rather restless, continuously wagging his tail as all the maids kept running around tidying up the whole carriage.
After a while the carriage finally stopped next to four identical carriages like the one they were in. Kian then opened the door with perfect posture, and Luan, who was still very sleepy, slowly strolled out of it.
The blazing sun blinded his eyes as he used his hands to cover them. Slowly stretching his body, he looked around and saw Drago and Hana standing not too far from him.
Both with a smile on their faces. "Welcome home, sweetie," Hana said as she approached her son and pulled him into a tight hug.
Luan was still only half awake but reciprocated the hug, and only after a couple of minutes did Hana let go.
She then looked at all the maids that stood in a single line, with perfect posture; no one dared to be rude to Luan’s father, the duke, and the first wife.
Hana nodded at them and then turned around. "Let’s go, we have a lot of catching up to do," she said.
"Kian let them place everything in my room, and Bart as well," Luan casually ordered, following behind his mother.
"Who’s Bart?" Drago inquired, crossing his arms in front of himself.
But then he saw it: a large wolf stepped out of the carriage right after Thomas. His mouth hung open as the sight was surreal.
Then he wanted to rush away to get the guards or his own weapon, just anything to kill that monster.
"Don’t worry, he’s quite docile. I made him my pet," Luan casually said, pointing at the wolf who was wagging his tail enthusiastically.
Both his parents looked at each other, then at the large wolf, who wasn’t attacking any of the girls; instead, it sat down next to Tokiko, wagging its tail furiously.
"Luan, you better explain everything that you did in detail to me," Drago said, giving Luan a confused look.
"Yeah, yeah, let’s go; they’ll take care of my luggage," he stated, rolling his eyes.
Thomas chuckled at the bizarre sight in front of him, but he was finally home and wouldn’t have to work so much anymore. Heaving a sigh of relief, he followed Luan and his parents into the large castle.
Once inside, they promptly made their way to the dining room, where four other people were seated eating a luxurious lunch.
When Drago, Hana, and Luan entered the room, the four people already inside all focused their attention on Hana and Luan, and one of the women grabbed the fan that lay next to her plate and placed it in front of her face.
"Look who we have here, our wonderchild. Luan," she mockingly said.
The other woman giggled a little, and the two young men glared at Luan with clear hostility.
Luan saw them and rolled his eyes. "Hello, elder brothers, how do you do?" he politely asked, with a slight bend of his knees.
His two brothers just turned their heads sharply, completely ignoring his question, but Luan didn’t mind; their relationship wasn’t good to begin with, and after the news of his double awakening spread, he knew it would only sour.
The eldest, Kael, wanted to become the successor to the Meskevela duchy, even though he was the son of the third wife. But after hearing about Luan’s stunt in the capital, he felt threatened by him even though Luan had never shown interest in becoming the next duke.
Drago sat down at the head of the table while Luan and Hana sat in front of his two brothers; the table was ordered based on rank. The first wife sat closest to the duke, then the second wife, then the third.
"So, Luan, how is this year? Well, almost a year, because of some things that happened, we needed you to return sooner," Drago inquired, with a serious look on his face.
"It was very productive, as you could read in the letter I sent. I required some assistance, and I thank you for that," Luan said, with a smile on his face.
Drago scratched his cheek. "Son, I know nothing about any letters you send during this period; only the mother is allowed to read any letters sent by you. That is how the tradition works," Drago explained, glancing at Hana.
Who had a perfect smile plastered on her face? "That’s right, Luan, everything that happened was purely because of me," Hana added.
"Thank you very much, then, Mother. Everything went well because you had sent them over timely."
He said, with a slight bow of his head. If she hadn’t sent Thomas or any of the others, his plans would have taken double or even triple as long to accomplish, so he wouldn’t even have been able to start up The Silver Coin in that time.
"Of course I will help you; you are my son," Hana stated.
"So what did you do during these couple of months?" Drago asked, curious.
"First I started off by becoming an adventurer and earning some extra money, then I went to the Xandrian Freeholds to try my luck at starting a business. Oh, and on the way I picked up a pet wolf and some more maids," Luan said, proudly, a grin on his face.
Drago could only sigh; it seemed his youngest son was a troublemaker. "The wolf you’re talking about, was it the one I saw earlier?"
Luan nodded while eating the delicious food on his plate, even though his servants were also very skilled cooks. The people employed by the duke were world-renowned chefs.
The difference in quality was apparent, and making a mental note to make sure to let them train their own, he kept eating.
