Sigil Online: I became the duke's third son -
Chapter 68
Chapter 68: Chapter 68
Lumi carefully placed the yellow ball inside Luan’s hand and landed on his shoulder, rubbing her head affectionately against his cheek.
Luan patted her head in turn while looking at the yellow ball in his hand. Unlike what he thought, it wasn’t warm, nor was it cold. It almost felt like there was nothing in his hand; that’s how light it was.
"Kian, guard me; I have something to do. Do not let anyone disturb me," Luan ordered as he sat down next to the book with his legs crossed.
Kian nodded and made some distance between himself and his lord to make sure that if anyone came here, he could stop them before they disturbed Luan’s concentration. Grasping his dagger, he looked around continuously.
Now seated, Luan tried to communicate with the yellow spirit to see if it would like to contract with him as well. The moment Vira entered the mark on his back, he knew he could contact some more spirits once more. Vira was clearly really important to his sigil and to Luan himself as well, her growth tied directly to the growth of his sigil.
Clearing his throat, he looked at the yellow ball in his hand. "Hello, my name is Luan Meskevela, and I would like to form a contract with you," he politely said, trying to leave a good impression. But there was no reaction from the yellow ball.
But instead of getting annoyed, Luan just rolled his eyes, feeling the emotions Lumi was emitting. He looked at the purple bird seated on his shoulder.
"Really? You’re laughing at me?" he muttered, and the bird nodded.
"...bruh," Luan dryly said, staring at the lake in front of him for a while before regaining his composure.
With a snap of his finger, Mara and Torg appeared next to him. He let Mara enter the lake and keep guard from that site while Torg created a small room made out of earth around him.
When Kian saw the structure appear, he wanted to rush toward Luan at first, but after seeing the brown gorilla, he calmed down and refocused on his job: keeping the lord safe and not letting anyone disturb him.
After he made sure he was protected from all sides, Luan carefully placed the yellow ball on a table he had Torg create and sat in front of it with Lumi on his shoulder.
"What do I do now?" he mumbled to himself, deep in thought about how he could contract with this unknown spirit.
He didn’t know much about them, although he had studied some books the last couple of months. But humans rarely received sigils related to spirits. And most of the time it was the elves who got them.
So there was a limited amount of information available, and while Luan would’ve liked to visit the Vael’thorin Dominion, it wasn’t possible right now for a multitude of reasons.
The elves were a rather proud race, and only a handful of other races were allowed to enter their country for trade, and right now it wasn’t the time to enter their country for trade.
So it was basically impossible to go there right now, and he couldn’t have gone anyway because he needed to return home.
Luan sighed as he slumped in the chair, glancing at the yellow ball. Lumi had at some point landed next to it and was playfully poking the ball with her beak.
"Do you know any way to wake it up, Lumi? Or what it is," Luan said, half jokingly. He had no idea what to do right now, so he was grasping at anything.
But then Lumi opened her beak and imitated eating. Luan’s eyes widened in shock. "Do you want to eat it?" He was alarmed.
Was it not a spirit and maybe an exotic plant or something? But why couldn’t Kian see it then? No, it had to be a spirit, but maybe it had died and was just floating there?
Lumi nodded at Luan’s question, emitting happy feelings throughout his whole body.
"Let me think about it," Luan said, pondering over all the possibilities.
There were a couple he could choose from. One was to let Lumi eat it and see what happens; maybe just like Vira, she will undergo a change, but it might also diminish his combat power significantly in the short term.
Another one was to wait and see if it would maybe wake up someday, but this seemed like a bad choice. He would have to carry it around, and he didn’t know if it was safe to carry around for who knows how long.
Lastly, he could try and forcefully contract with it. But that option was probably the worst choice, Luan thought. It had a multitude of risks. Something could go horribly wrong because it was unresponsive, and when Luan contacted Lumi, it was a serious challenge.
After a couple of minutes of pondering over all the options and possible outcomes, he decided on one.
"Alright, you may eat it, Lumi. But when you feel something is wrong, spit it out immediately," Luan said, glancing at the bird that seemed to be drooling over the yellow ball.
Lumi nodded vigorously, opening her beak wide. She ate the whole thing in one bite, and immediately after, her whole body started glowing intensely.
Luan had to shield his eyes with his hands; it looked like the same thing that happened to Vira was happening to Lumi now.
After a while the intense yellow light started dimming, and Luan saw an egg lying on the table. The large egg was see-through, and Luan could see Lumi peacefully sleeping inside.
Then another flash of light appeared, and half of the egg turned a deep purple while the other half was bright yellow.
"It seems like this was the right choice," he muttered to himself, carefully picking up the egg and stepping out of the small room made by Torg.
"Let’s go back, Kian; we still have a long way to go," Luan ordered as they made their way back to the carriage.
